Wherever you go there will always be plus points along with the negative ones. If you want to live here, you just simply have to accept that it is the way things are and if you cant deal with it, move on. Having lived lots of places, Thailand for all its faults, still rates highly in my book, or I wouldn't still be here.

Those who are missing out are invited to form an orderly queue outside my house. For the sake of their happiness and wellbeing, I will go through as many as I can.

Which shows the Thai public to be extremely gullible. I can understand their hopes that there is an honest copper out there somewhere, but you have to say their faith in Big Joke is somewhat misplaced. If he were honest, he would change his nickname to Big Glory Hunter.

Never forgetting that being employed within the police force is about a stable a job as you can get, even when you get caught red handed with your paws in the cookie jar.

Oh Yeah, Marvellous work. I don't see what good it is going to do anyone though. He hasn't got the money now, and he wouldn't have had it if they had nicked him when the market first crashed. Lots of people lost stupid amounts of money back then. Dragging someone to jail for a fraction of it 20 years after the event achieves what exactly? I hope the court has at least some leniency for this guy who seems to have tried his best to get on with it since.

It is notable that in many civilised countries, police have been told to back off when high speed pursuits begin, even when stolen cars are involved, on the grounds that it ends in too many unnecessary deaths. I note the article states he was chased because he had no helmet. Perhaps you think that such a heinous crime is sufficient to warrant an untimely death. From a small locale, and undoubtedly having his registration, they could have caught up with him at their leisure and he would still be alive.

While I agree with other posters that stupidity is at the root of this, I have to say that in my time, I have seen much, much worse. The Thais didn't exactly come out of this fantastically. The world knowing Thailand will jail someone for up to 10 years for a bit of graffiti', which was washed off in no time, hardly did wonders for their ailing tourist industry. In my younger years I did some fairly dumb stuff, for which I am not proud. Just lucky I didn't do it here I guess.

If that truly is his phone number I suspect he might regret making it public. Every victim of a crime the local cops are ignoring are likely to ring him assuming he will magically solve their problems. The end result of course will make his nickname stick, for a different reason.

It seems abundantly clear that wherever the Chinese go en masse, is subsequently avoided by everyone else. Sihanoukville is a classic example. Five years ago it was packed with tourists from everywhere, the Chinese invaded and everybody else has left. And once the good tourists have gone, they don't come back. Thailand put its eggs in the Chinese basket, and are now paying the price.

Praise God for the braking systems on elevators, meaning that probably nothing more than some clean underwear was required.

The fact that cops were extorting people does not surprise me in the least. What does surprise me is that they have been pulled up for it. Probably kept the lot, rather than share some of it in an upward direction, and that is probably the real reason for the action.

I don't own a gun, but if I caught someone climbing in at night to my kids bedroom, I think it fair to say that there would be a violent welcome. Will be interesting to see how this pans out at court. You should have the right to protect your family inside your own property.

I don't suppose it possible that they may have transferred non smoking prisoners there in the first place, or those who had expressed a desire to quit. You can stack any deck in your favour if you really want to. The majority of smoking prisoners are going to be horrified at this.
4 minutes ago, Just Weird said:That is not a complete pack of lies.
Not sure where you get your information, but it IS a pack of lies. Whilst I accept that it has been becoming more common in the last 18 months, before this period, smoking was fully accepted in the sleeping areas of all those not on punishment. Individual prisons may have had a no smoking room for those who wished it, but across the board, I can personally attest through a brief visit not that far in the past, that Yes, you could smoke in the rooms and most did, so the supposed ban since 2008 is, as I previously stated, a complete pack of lies.

Perhaps they would be better served preventing the spread of numerous skin infections and other pestilence caused by the massive overcrowding. Thai jails are currently about three times their designed capacity, with people crammed together like sardines.

Maybe you should actually read the story then. The Phuket news story in the original story says "
At each stage the emphasis was on maximum safety to the recovery team. No other personnel were allowed to enter into an area of 1km around the site. For transparency, each stage of the operation was captured on video by the Singaporean team."
Read more at https://www.thephuketnews.com/phoenix-finally-risen-from-seabed-69377.php#tjP5KRWJhr6AfOrI.99Singapore equipment, Singapore crew, so I think you will find that there probably were some Singaporeans on board.- 3

A big well done to the Singaporean team, who have shown that bringing adequate resources to a task, can render an operation fairly simple and have it completed in short order.
One hopes that not only will their efforts provide valuable information regarding the disaster, but also ring a few wake up bells in Thailand, when it comes to such problems.
As has been clearly proven, hiring clowns on such a sensitive issue, to try to save a few lousy bucks, and trying to save some face as in "Yeah! We can do this" , when you clearly can't, ends up with you looking like laughable clowns yourself.
It is little wonder the Chinese are not coming, as they obviously have little or no faith in the authorities here to have the first clue what to do in the event of a disaster.
I can only imagine the scale of the tragedy to come when one of their subs has a problem and needs rescuing.

Those forecasts were probably made prior to the many deaths of tourists recorded this year through negligence.
For them to be giving visas away for free, (something they get a lot of revenue from), the situation on incoming tourists must be alarmingly low. I see it as a short term fix though, as getting tourist safety in good shape is the only real long term solution to getting visitors returning.

Looking at the extent of the damage to his car, that may be because he was travelling way too quickly.
Having said that, I thought three on a bike was illegal, and would offer long odds, the driver wasn't licensed and not one of them had a helmet.
RIP to Supakorn.

I doubt this will end up with more than a 1,000 Baht fine and a wai. Interesting though. If this had happened elsewhere, I suspect the guy would have got a beating whether he was on his knees or not.

No mention then of the cops actually investigating the alleged fraud, just threats towards the person revealing it. It is no surprise that we hear of rip offs continuously, as those cheating seem to have a lot more protection by the law, than those who have lost their money.

If you are trying to tell us that the cops are criminals DSD, that is hardly a news flash.
