The reasons people go 3rd world countries are usually - great weather, significantly cheaper living expenses
Thailand over the pas 5 years become pretty much more expensive than my European home country. Of course you can live cheap, but that's homeless like lifestyle.
So for me it is losing its charm, because I can't afford $8000 a month ocean view villa and do not want to pay xxx% more for some daily use products. On top of the annoying visa situation Vietnam looks better by the day.

I would recommend to look at Vietnam as well. Much easier visa conditions, much cheaper and amazing. You have also many city choices with less hot weather if 40 degrees isn't your thing.

The money given should be at least a little bit more than they are spending on you, by inviting you. Roughly a 5 star resort would be THB 2500 per person. Also because the party is in 5 star, they would also be serving expensive liquor. Do the math mate.....
Yea but at the same time I'm not a fan of spending 10k THB per night out. We are good friends, but I had to work hard for my cash. They got everything on golden plate from their parents. Non of them had actual real job in their life.
Obviously I don't want to look like a tight ass. At the same time it's not in Bangkok - we have to travel there. The resort is 9000 THB per night for the cheapest room and not much around = pay 9k THB for room or pay mafia level taxi charges to somewhere else. Even without the gift the expenses will be high.

I'm invited for a wedding too... he is from the UK, she is Thai.
Both of their parents are VERY wealthy, the ceremony and party is in a 5* resort... How much is appropriate in such situation?

Stable democratic government
Booming economy and GDP per capita
World class police force and justice system
The poor, sick, and elderly taken care off
... I sure understand why THB is and WILL get stronger

Australia is no different in the farming industry, many of the orchards have trouble getting workers when it is harvest time. The farmers try backpackers or anyone but some farmers have even cut down their orange trees and burnt them.
The story of life now is that with IT and mechanization no body wants to do manual labour they all want to sit on their asses and get blisters on their finger tips from pushing buttons. The modern world has become lazy
Do you know how much they pay backpackers in rural Australia?
You spend living and working in the middle of nowhere Queensland, save $1500 a month while have absolutely no life.
The OP's offer seems extremely generous considering average wage in TH

So the employer pays them minimum wage say 350. Times 2 is 700. How much profit would you think is realistic? 35% would seem a bit light?
she was a freelancer from the building manager, probably family or friends and getting kick back
btw the building manager and managing company got sacked because of high number of complains

Same almost anywhere in SE Asia... Man I hate when order Grab/Uber and the driver calls me where am I.
The dot that you can see it on your bloody phone! Not to mention they can't speak/understand English as well.

I needed to move between condos in Bangkok - 15km and just few bags/boxes of stuff ... but bit too much for regular taxi. Gf called several companies and they were asking for 3000 - 4500 THB - ridiculous!
In the end I've got mini van from Grab for 500 THB.
Also move out cleaning - quoted 1000 THB for two workers half a day. Only one worker showed up and she left after half a day. But the owner forced her to come back for another half day. She and the building manager would call us 30 times that 1000 THB is not enough, we have to pay more. We didn't pay more.

I don't want to live in Thailand anymore as well. My situation is bit different as I'm ~ 30y old and don't need a job. I've been with my Thai gf for almost 3 years and she is the reason I spend a lot of time in TH.
I would prefer to live in Vietnam. While my home country in Europe is great, I hate the weather there.
I loved TH when I first came here, now not so much. It's becoming overpriced, nany police state.
It is getting more expensive than back home at alarming rate (not even speaking about Vietnam)
- food unless you count street food
- anything healthy
- beer is 4 times more, wine lol
- so many condos in Bangkok are empty but they still want 25k thb for tiny box + the stupid 2 months deposit which you never know if you get back as no consumer protection here at all
The visa situation is annoying as hell. Leaving the country every 3 months and to do extension in BKK travelling 30km away.
Don't even like to go out in BKK as mrt/bts/streets are always crowded. The cities in TH are dump hell, not livable and you have less choices than fingers on one hand. In Vietnam there are dozens of cities along the coast and even the small-ish cities have some great parks, areas to hang out, or even usable footpaths.
Risk of getting into problems just by saying the truth (internet act, defamation laws, lese majeste, you name it) or just by bumping into some ass hole who don't like you. Law here works only when someone decide to use it at particular moment.
The islands are beautiful - Samui, Phangan, Tao... but nice accommodation is super pricey + the islands are under mafia control so even more chance to get unlucky even if doing nothing wrong. Or just try to get a taxi from supermarket or after night out.

SURVEY: What is the biggest drawback to living in Thailand?

You compare prices Paris vs Isaan? I haven't seen 40 THB fried rice in a proper restaurant in Bangkok.
Not to mention the Paris portion is likely twice as big, and from significantly better ingredients.
