Eking out on 40k a single man. Me and three kids live very nicely on 30k a month, and we can even afford to go to Ramayana water park this weekend. Food, utilities just about everything except booze is cheap here.

Booze is far more expensive in bars in the west than it is in thailand.

    Supermarket booze is pretty similar

"Why is anything other than your passport required?"

Because this is Thai immigration we are dealing with, their attitude is

never make anything easier for Farang, always make them harder.

Good god..paranoia to a whole new level.

Have you seen how hard govts in the west make it for new migrants to renew visas???

Not saying it is right but all govts do it.

If you dont like how the thai govt treats you at least you have a choice... dont you?

I suppose it is easier to stay and sit and snipe though

Can you you try writing that in English, and since when was it illegal to drink after 2am? I’m guessing you’re related to the rip off filth in Chang Mai if you think a gill of 18’000 Baht is “a bit high”, I can just imaging you picking you’re nose and having a feast while you wrote that.

Sp you try and have a go at the poster's english and write that.

    Priceless!

He was spot on what he said.

Besides try going drinking in oz or uk after 2 am with 5 people and see what you get for $250/$300.

You and your mates seem really interesting fun people

A phone number they can spam and sell to other spammers

Wonder when the anti thai stuff would start.

All companies all over the world sell info you provide, to other organisations.

Sorry to disavow you . Scammers/spammers are all over tje world not just thailand.

If you think it is worse here then you do have options I suppose

Well:  The police may care if you pay them enough, but strictly legally it is probably a civil matter.  You and he had an agreement. He did not steal it or force you to give it to him.  He now chooses to not keep the agreement.  Not a simple police/crime thing.  Hope it wasn't too much.  Lots of Thais are irresponsible with money, especially when it came from a "rich" farang.  (All Farangs are seen to be rich.)  Try not to do it again.  It frequently (but not always) does not turn out well.  Good luck.

So you turn a hard luck story into an excuse for a thai bashing exercise.

Yet another who cant resist insulting and disrespecting the native population of the country who has graciously allowed him to reside here.

If you were in good old back home hpw would you feel if immigrants were rubbishing their new country?

    Disgraceful

    That's interesting

So what makes a Pizza expensive here

    Novelty value

    Economies of scale.

    Chocolate bars are expensive

    Serials are expensive

Maybe because its thailand and not good old back home and the majority of thai people arent even aware of pizza

Wy? This is Thailand They Do what They Want.

Maybe they do what is regarded as best for the nation and what is politically acceptable to the population.

Maybe they realise that the esteem many expats believe they should be held in is indeed a load of bunkum and rightly so.

Not as if the rest of the world and certainly not countries like uk, eu and usa make it easy for thai citizens who travel to those places for work, study or play.

    Nonsense.

Why on earth would you spend your retirement in Thailand instead of having top class Canadian healthcare that will take care of you?

My mom is dirt poor in Canada. I bought her a condo (instead of some Thai tart) and now she gets money from the government, free healthcare and heavily discounted meds if she needs them which she does not as she only eats best quality organic food thanks to free government money.

I am so fed up with the "quality" healthcare here (which I get for free through my wife) that I'm going back to Toronto this summer to see real and informed doctors.

This place is not good for old people and I doubt it will get better in the future. By my calculation you'd have to have around 10 million dollars banked in a savings account to have the same quality of life as the average Canadian.

Yet it's that horrible you continue to live here and with one of the locals..my goodness that was big of you.

So you have a thai wife that allows you to get free healthcare that you avail yourself of yet sneer at its quality.

I assume your wife isnt some 'thai tart'.

    Re your mother.

That you bought her a condo means she doesn't need to pay out rent that means she is in a very priviledged position so please dont bang on about how generous etc canada is. Hardly 'dirt poor'.

You seem that consumed with hatred, disdain and cynicism I doubt you'd be happy anywhere.

Have a serious talk with the persons feeding them!

What if they are half the age and happy to give you a 'dig' for questionning their right to fees birds?

I always find it amusing when keyboard warriors exhort others to confront issues face on that could lead to violence.

It really is kind of silly because any "threats" to Thailand are much more likely to be from internal Thais, not foreigners coming in to steal military or state secrets.  Now nothing wrong with having some immigration policies and checks on foreigners.  All countries should be able to do that.  But they are seemingly spending lots of time and money chasing small issues.

Is that on the basis we whities are by and large good guys and should be exempt all that horrid inconvenience of filling in bits of paper?

As above enter and leave LOS on the Thai passport, Denmark on the Danish passport.

    Also.

Never, ever show both passports to an immigration official (or any official for that matter) some can be rather, er, enthusiastic. A mate had his (perfectly legal) second UK passport confiscated by a Malaysian policeman when he produced the wrong one at a night-time check.

The only time you may need to show both passports is to a check-in clerk who is doing their job properly and verifying you have the right of entry at the other end.

I tried to check-in at swampy using the wrong passport and the nice lady spotted I had no Thai entry stamp, a hasty rummage produced the right passport and a reminder to be more careful in future (see above).

Illegal to confiscate a passport from another country.

He or she should have gone direct to consulate or embassy
