PayPal no longer available to foreigners in Thailand
gvrixtel replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The following link might clear up some confusion: https://www.paypal.com/th/webapps/mpp/thailand-relaunch-faq?locale.x=en_TH -
20+ years in online and social media consultancy has taught me something: The ones who are willing to pay most for this sort of rankings will end up higher in the list. These sites have 0 meaning. A simple Google Analytics search will show you that they hardly have any traffic going through them. Nice job TAT. ????

What is the good news about living in Thailand now?
gvrixtel replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If the fruit was just the only thing we had to worry about as expats... You might want to consider reading the article below first before reading some selfpromotional drivvel like this. https://thethaiger.com/travel/top-10-hard-truths-living-expat-thailand -
Anutin declares he's ready to be the next Prime Minister of Thailand
gvrixtel replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The problem was not repeating Mr. Anutin's quote. The problem was that you generalized all foreigners in one group. And now, in your latest comment, you do the same with your own countrymen (and women). I don't think you went from door to door in Scotland, asking each and every individual how often and how long they shower. What you probably meant to say was: "As far as I know, and with my limited knowledge, as a Scot, I think I know that Thais that I know shower a lot more than the average Scot that I know, full stop." -

If he is the next PM of Thailand, expect even less expats soon and even stricter measures for those who remain. -
Thailand’s English proficiency plummets: Survey
gvrixtel replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
When I moved from the Netherlands to this country in 2004, I was first employed as a conversational English lecturer and teacher at one of Northern Bangkok's universities for 4 years. My students consistently ranked highest in language proficiency for 4 years, even above those thaught by my native English speaking colleagues. I was even put in charge of teaching other university personnel English skills. Additionally, I was managing the university's English language website, writing and editing exams and courses, and even taught German and French. However, in 2008, I was unceremoniously dismissed for not being a native English speaker, and therefore was deemd unqualified to teach, by the new head of the language department. Fun fact, this new head's students had ranked lowest for the last 4 years, but she assured me it wasn't a form of revenge, just policy. To make a long story short, I can't to always have a little smile on my face when I read these kind of articles, in which time and time again is stated what I have known for over 15 years. It's the system that causes this. -
All these numbers are proof of only one thing: it is time to overhaul the way mathematics and statistics are taught in this country’s schools.

New Thai education law will kill kids’ creativity, warn critics
gvrixtel replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Again you are showing of your lack of general knowledge. The obvious one being that CCP is not western, not democratic, and certainly not free. As for the US, most of the education regulations happen on a local level (district, state)as far as I know, though the government keeps a national overview of everything). As for most European countries, I am sorry to burst your bubble, but education is a synergetic process and is determined in respectful and open collaboration between government, educators, parents and other caretakers, experts from all walks of life, and yes even students. Maybe read up a bit before you go on another rant. -

I don't know in what country this would be western style. Western style allows freedom of religion, political beliefs and gender identity. Western style promotes individual growth, creative thoughts, critical thinking. None of the things I see reflected in either bill. -
The report forgets to make a distinction as too Thai nationals being registered as living in Bangkok (which accounts for the 5.4M) and the number of people actually residing and working in Bangkok (including people actually registered in other provinces and foreign nationals) which would give a more accurate number of more than 10 million residents in Bangkok. Subsequently that would also mean only an approximate 35% is vaccinated. Creative accounting I guess...

I think the lack of lines at the immigration department sums it up nicely: Within a few years there will almost no foreigners left in Thailand, no matter how hard they try to get them to come and stay here. It also seems they do not care where you get your money, as long as you are spending it without hesitation.
