  1. Anybody seen large Christmas pudding in the stores in Bangkok? I found small, one person, puddings, but not larger ones. Thanks.
  2. I have AIS as an ISP and use Em Client as an email client on my laptop. Usually, when I send an email with an attachment, the email gets stuck in the Outbox and not transmitted. Has anybody else experienced this issue?
  3. Sounds too difficult to buy gold coins. better to buy Thai gold here and coins overseas. Thanks for the replies.
  4. Where can I buy a swiss franc? The advantage of Swiss francs is that I can take them to Australia, if needed, and sell them there.
  5. Can I buy Krugerrands, or a similar gold coin, in Thailand? Currently I am buying bars of Thai gold from gold shops, but would like to diversify. Thanks
  6. I know you have to declare it when leaving Australia. In Melbourne there is a counter just after immigration where you can submit the declaration. You also need to declare amounts of currency when entering Thailand. I assume it is at the red channel, things to declare.
  7. To bring large amounts of cash into Thailand I need to declare it with customs at Suvarnabhumi airport. Where, at the airport, do I declare cash? The only place I see a customs person is next to the X-ray machine, after clearing baggage pickup, and next to the exit.
  8. An American doctor friend in Bangkok needed a hernia operation. The difference in the prices quoted at private hospitals in BKK was huge. In the end, he returned to the U.S. for the operation. Even without U.S. health insurance, it was cheaper to get the operation done there and the difference in cost paid for a business class ticket home. Who says that private hospitals in Thailand are not a racket.
  9. I would like to buy gold as part of an investment strategy, where is the best place to buy it in BKK? People say just go to one of the better gold jewellery stores in Chinatown. Any suggestions?
  10. Any recommendations on where to get a melanoma checkup in Bangkok? A few years ago I visited Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya, but was put off by their excessive charging and greed.
  11. I just downloaded Skype. It seems to me that to call someone using Skype, they also need to use Skype. Since it is my bank branch am phoning, I doubt they use Skype.
  12. Thanks Scubascuba3. I also just spoke with AIS help desk, they do not offer a collect call service.
  13. Anybody know how to make a collect call to Canada? What number do I dial from Bangkok to reach the relevant operator. My mobile account is with AIS. Thanks.
  14. I would like to cycle from Samut Prakan to the coast. Is there a bike rental shop in or near Samut Prakan? Thanks in advance
  15. Thanks. I have non-O visa, so am eligible to get a Bangladesh visa in Thailand.
  16. I have been asked to mail my passport to the US to obtain a visa for Bangladesh. The company I work for believes there is less likelihood of delays if I apply to their DC embassy, than their Bangkok embassy, since I do not have Thai ID. Is it better to send my passport via DHL or registered with the Post Office? The cost does not matter since my company will pay for shipping.
  17. Leaving Thailand for a couple of weeks. Do I need to register on-line before travelling, similar to the old Thailand Pass, to get back in? Thanks in advance
  18. I bought Pfizer, will learn the hard way. I asked pharmacist what was the difference and she shrugged her shoulders, so I bought Pfizer.
  19. I just bought 30 * 10mg of Pfizer Amlodipine, cost me 1,314 baht. I think I got ripped off.
  20. I have been living here for three years, you do not get the full pension when living in Thailand if some of your working life was spent outside Australia.
  21. If I understand correctly, if I live in one of the 31 countries that has an agreement with Australia, I get the full pension, not the part pension I get while living in Thailand?
  22. I scan and upload using their app, or on my.gov web page. They receive the documents because I can verify receipt on my.gov.
  23. Has anybody found any good ways to deal with Centrelink? Communicating with them from Thailand is a pain in the #$&%. They ask for a document, I send it to them. Three months later they say I have not sent them the document, so I send it again. Three months after that I get a letter saying my age pension has been cancelled because I have not sent documents as requested. I phone Centrelink International, and the problem is sorted. This happens all the time. I do not believe they read anything I send them. I ask for clarification on why they cut my pension, and I get no reply. Even Centrelink International say that Centrelink can be difficult to deal with. This has been going on for three years, nothing but trouble.
  24. Last week I renewed my non-O visa for a year. My next 90-day is in 3 weeks. Can I complete my 90-day report, 90 days after my non_O renewal, or do I need to submit it in two weeks?
