  1. Hi,

Wondering if anyone can direct me to a program of activites, locations etc for the Songkran festival / holidays next April.

I'm sure I saw some detailed info last year on a CM site, but can't seem to locate it for this year.

    Best wishes

  2. What ba-----ds!

I guess he has paid tax and social security all his life, but now they don't want to know as he lives overseas.

    Disgusting.

    Correct

Sad thing is if you go through the BS waste of time /expense - why dont they say it up front.

The YAK went on for ages whilst positions explained.

NO-need the form so you pop up on the radar next time you have a go

Like Bankers - give you the umbrella when the sun shines - take it away when it rains

    All the best

  3. A good mate of mine is currently in Sydney to renew visa - resident of LOS for past 6 years - married -" owns" residence in the North - aged 61.

In the past 4 months has suffered an illness which necessitated 1 month in hospital and has left him pretty well buggered.

Another operation later this month, but nowhere near as serious as the previous problem.

Whilst here he applied for a disability pension acting on some advice he received wher i was indicated that he could receive a percentage as an overseas resident.

Filed out the paperwork, but was told that the reams of medical reports etc coulud not be used as the Thai medical quallifications could not be recognised ( feel a bit sorry for the Professor or Cardiology )

Was referred to a GP for an asessment who basically said he was totally disabled - never work again etc and admitted the Thai reports as evidence ( so the reports did get into the application)

back to Centrelink - submitted all info - told it would be processed asap as he wanted to get back home.

Letter arrives - knocked back on the basis of overseas residency.

I was wondering if anyone resident in LOS has had similar experience or if there is some apeal process.

I had a look at the website, but could not really get to the bottom of it in the limited time I had.

Any advice would be appreciated and I'll pass it on

    All the best

  4. Hi All,

I have offered to provde an English language course for the son of a friend in CM

The "college" mentioned was either MUA or NUA and I am tying to obtain some info on this school.

I tried to google it up, but to no avail and I don't know what these initials stand for.

Can anybody give me a steer in the right direction.

Alternatively, there may be private tutors who could give one on one lessons - if so, what sort of hourly cost would be involved.

    Any assistance would be appreciated

    Best wishes

  5. In January 04 I made a number of withdrawals in CM - being a newbie on the use of my Aussie card in an o/s destination I held my breath every time.

(Would it spit the dough / would it chew the card ???)

    Didn't have a problem.

Strange thing though - when I got home and worked up enough guts to look at my statement - the rate was good and the add on wasn't too bad.

Guess I 've just put the mock on myself and everthing from now on will screw up!

    Best wishes

  6. Hi Guys 'Gals

Last January I caught an express bus from CM to Chiang Rai -Good ride /good service /good fare.

They operated from the far end of the Northern Terminal.

Does anyone know where I can get a timetable on line - checked my tickets, but can't find the name.

In the alternative, I'm thiking of renting a car for the trip (flexibility) -I stay clear of the "name" companies -any suggestions and perhaps a price.

    Chanchao -are you around ?

Will be in Cm on 18 August.

    Best Wishes

  7. Guys/Gals

Really enjoyed your your posts  - my Bro and his lovely THai partner of 8 years are having a Bhudist Ceromony in the North early next year.

Its really great to see how something as unusual as this has got us Okkers and Poms off their <deleted> to visit LOS (could be a mob of 30 or so)

Everybody is so enthusiastic at this end and its been great to learn a bit more about Thai customs on the practical side (most auspicious day to marry - must consult Temple by mail for most auspicious time  - 9:19AM - gee those 9's creep in everywhere )

After the North we're going to drift South with the  gang and go to do our own thing.

In any event its goingto be a great month for me !

To all of you that have gone through it - my best wishes for the future
