Its not scaring away the Russians. The airport was packed with them the other night. Nobody else, just Russians.

Out of curiosity...who is this man? I mean, what is his real interest in this protest? What does he and/or his family gain from it? Sorry to sound cynical but I just do not feel that he is doing all this out of some heartfelt love of democracy and that its all for the people of Thailand. Does anyone have a background on this guy (and his mates)? His professional background, family business etc. Just curious.

Proof of income? Aren't they studying, and not working?
They still need to eat.

They have it on Emirates but charge a fortune for it. Not many in cattle class will bother but for some in Business that want to stay connected to the office, its a good investment.

"The US lobbyist was also hired to lobby for US military assistance in establishing a safe harbor zone around Thailand's waters."
Safe from who exactly? Which begs the question... Who in the world is safe from the U.S.?
It actually makes Thailand a lot more 'unsafe'.
Thailand will just become more of a target if and when the US attacks North Korea and uses Thailand as a jumping platform.
Won't take long for a couple of NK subs to get here with a couple of nukes for the new base and BKK.
Oh come on. The N. Koreans could barely get a missile across the Sea of Japan.

It would be strategically interesting to the US should the old "canal" project be re-invigorated.

55 and on the way to 60. The DECLINE over the past 20 years is staggering.
And yet...there are so many English teachers here now. Hmm.

These are the countries with the richest sexpats, according to a recent (and very real) survey. Men from these countries are also most likely to send money to bar girls from overseas. Its all in the statistics.
The Dutch on the other hand, have been shown to have issues parting with cash.

I hope there is a stiff penalty for the perpetrator.

"Skin whitening creams abound in Thailand, helped by the popularity of white-skinned models and actors on billboards and the television."
Unilever won't be satisfied until every woman in Thailand looks like Morticia Addams. Unfortunately, many Thai woman aspire for the same. Unfortunately, we don't know what the long term health effects are for using these Frankenstein-like products, but there is no way this story ends pretty.
Isn't it just bleach they put in these creams?

Just started a boycott Starbucks page on Facebook. Go to Facebook and look for: notostarbucks (one word) I hope this is ok with the admins here. Otherwise please remove
Why?
Because everyone knows that if a boycott is set up on Facebook, then kids with cancer will receive money for LIKES and trees will be planted by the millions, WORLDWIDE !!! Duh !

As in most situations, there are two sides to this story. I doubt seriously that anyone with more than eight functioning brain cells would disagree that this gentleman's logo does, indeed, bear a striking resemblance to Starbucks internationally recognizable trademark. And Starbucks does have a legal right to protect their property. However, the serious risk that Starbucks runs is in alienating their customer base by being perceived as "beating up" on some very low level street vendor, who poses precisely zero threat to their market share. It is not very likely that anyone stopping at the "Starbung" cart for a cup of coffee mistakes his coffee for that of his better known competitor. Were the legal and marketing teams at Starbucks possessed of any sense of proportion, or for that matter, any sense of marketing savvy, they would either ignore the mosquito in the room, or they would use his presence as an opportunity to poke fun at themselves by coming up with a humorous advertisement pointing directly at the situation, thereby turning this to their advantage. But such is the short sightedness of multinational corporations. And it's also highly unlikely that I'll ever again part with any of my personal baht to the profit of Starbucks.
So OK, They let this guy off the hook and allow him to use his ripped off logo. How about the next one? Yeah ... let him go too. And the next? and the next? and the next?
WHoah!!!!!!
Get it now?
I tried to open up a chain of fast food restaurants called "McShits" once and guess what? Lawyers from McDonalds all over me like poop on stink. Evil corporations. May they burn in hell !

I think he should offer free wifi to English teachers so he can gain some more sympathy votes from the TV gallery.
-
He knows he copied Starbucks. We know he copied Starbucks. Everyone knows he copies Starbucks.
Telling fibs about his inspiration for the logo evaporated any sympathy I felt for him..... and I really loathe Starbucks.
He should have played the sympathy card himself. Saying how the big nasty coffee corporation (which Starbucks is) has stolen his business and so he was just trying to get a little back to feed his family.
Indeed. Who uses muslim inspired ideas to sell coffee? Isn't that blasphemous?
Only if there is Irish whisky in the coffee.

If its on CNN do not believe it. CNN has not earned the nickname of the Communist News Network for no reason.
Rather an odd comment, read the links in the news reports. The CNN report is based upon analysis by an Australian organisation funded by an Australian self made multi billionaire who has made his fortune in the mining/resources industry. He set up the organisation after his daughter visited Nepal and was shocked by the conditions for some of the Nepalese people;
He's just upset with Obama.

If I put an X-men sticker on my windscreen do I get an amnesty from this law?
Try first with putting a few pooh bears and the honey pot on the back of your car. I see that a lot.
No no...Pooh Bears and Hello Kitty's on silver or gold coloured Toyota Vigos are the target market for the BIB. Those people can afford the fine but dont know any higher ups that can get the BIB into conflict.

For every vehicle towed how many others will be ' exempt ' for one reason or another ?
A Mercedes or BMW bonnet badge exempts you.

Incidentally, does anyone know whether deVere Group are still up to their old tricks in Bangkok? Or have the police finally shut them down?
I received a number of cold calls from a smooth talker earlier this year. That slippery guy wouldn't take no for an answer.
deVere is not a boiler room operation, they are a serious investment company. They are doing marketing in a way which you might find annoying, but there is nothing illegal about them that I know of.
If you are investing with them, I suggest you get your money out ASAP
-
I get them a lot, but from a different boiler room based outside of Thailand. Usually Filipinas. They get an immediate "not interested" and hangup from me. They got my name from giving out my business card to a French guy when I was shopping for computers in Japan!
These people are lowlife scum.
They scrape LinkedIn then have someone call the office where you currently work and try to get your mobile. If the person on the other end is a bit thick (like in my former office), the number is given out.

"It’s difficult to dive because there is a strong current. So I think it's 50/50 that we will find something," said Thai rescue diver Aniwat Plaeng-ngaan, 20.
They can't find the plane? Nobody in a whole of Thailand got a radar do find the location of a sunk plane?!?!?
Perhaps sonar then?

Talk about openly advertising the new bribery system!! How can anyone honestly take Thailand seriously as a country when it so puts it in your face that parts of its supposedly clean cut image is so dirty.
Apparently, if you have more than 28psi pressure in your front tires, you will be fined. The same is true for traveling with rabbits in the car at a speed lower than 40km/h.

One is pleased to see bugs die in a fire, even if the house is burned down - Kim Il Sung.
Yeah coz we all know only rich people live in Bangkok and only the elite work in the shops and mall that got burnt out.Stop being foolish.
The family took the compensation because as Thais they knew that only the elite high-so rich have a chance at winning any case in Thailand.
The poor do not, and they know that from the lessons they have learned in their everyday life in Thailand.
You do not get a fair shake if you are poor in Thailand, and the poor are made aware of it from their first breath.
They know that perfectly well, so they take what they can get when it's offered..
Otherwise, hey will get nothing.
When considering this case and the mercedes bus stop killer, the porsche driver who cut the Laos girl in half and carried on driving etc. All those Bangkok elites who are corrupt to the core and never get the punishment their crimes deserve it kinda makes me think its okay for the poor to burn Bangkok

I am no Shinawatra fan, but I do want the rank and file of Thailand to have just a little slice of the cake with no strings attached..
So do I.
So according to your quote, of a maniac, it's ok to make Bangkok poor and shopworkers homeless and jobless in the hope others benefit?
The only way the rank and file in Thailand have any hope of a genuine voice is when politicians and the 'elite' of all colours gain a sense of moral duty and it is hard to see that happening anytime soon.

Which is why the justifiable anger of the industrial workers and farmers boils over into this kind of rage...
Meanwhile in the workers paradise of North Korea..
