Its not to big if you live in between Asoke and Nana where all the fun expats hang out and we are talking all types of people from high rollers to school teachers and retirees but the big difference is there are no beer guts walking around shirtless or in a wife beater and in flip flops which is the national dress code of Pattaya.

There are five 5 star hotels in that little strip so lots a classy tourists around. Great place to be

highest concentration of transvestites on the planet.  Soi 4 is wife beater Haven for tourist, and you have a huge Arab presence.  Worst cops in the city at Asok, and hardly any middle class Thais, and the upper class ones are more likely to be around Paragon.  And did I mention the Chinese have ruined a lot of things around there?  Quality of life on the decline, as land prices skyrocket..none of the things that made Thailand famous can still be found in those parts. I am a big fan of transit, but the rush hour crowds are uncivilized on BTS/MRT, but you just have to avoid Asok, Siam and a few others.  Any place there are Chinese tourists, crowding on transit quickly gets to unsafe levels. A date out, and steak dinner for two could set you back 20,000, and you are still praying she doesn't order another 3500 than bottle of wine that cost 12 bucks in the States.  I suppose the boiler room guys get what they deserve.

The size and age will make a difference but I have been running 5 AC for decades on 15/45 service without issues (although only one normally during day).  And have 3x 19CF refrigerators running full time.

my 17k btu ac uses 9 times more energy than my fridge.  Tally up the amps...

  3. you mentioned "gas" earlier...sounds like it previously leaked, and using it low on refrigerant wears it out at about 5X.  It takes a lot more power to start, if it has been abused...capacitator may not be able to deliver enough voltage to start it up.  Also, three aircon?  with 15/45 service, that could be problematic...the broken one could need 20+ amps to start.

  4. as some stated....you got a brownout factor/too.  I had a samsung in my other place..switched to carrier.  Never did trust the samsung tv either....a local mom pop repair place had about 20 samsung tv waiting for repair or junked in front of the store...zero sony.

The samsung service center is decent...they get lots of practice..might as well let them fix it, because it will need proprietary parts, anyway.

  5. Just like my hometown of DC, a 20 Km trip at 8am takes 90 minutes, but if you simply wait until 10am, it only takes 25 minutes.....so the 8-5ers are the ones who pay the price for commuter hell...simple enough to plan around it, when you dont work here...same with the rain...not an excuse to be late for work, but simple enough to wait out the 20-30 minutes it will last.  I would say just chill and have another beer, but this holiday period seems to bring out the AA priests.

I must have missed the news - when did the BTS and the MRT stop running?

not sure, but that is because I have a whole fleet of busses coming by every few minutes, and can walk to three ferry piers...also got a motto mob, but that just reminds me too much of Pattaya.  Metered taxi to get my beer home is <50 THB.

5555!  She was rather large, I'm white but not Jewish and I don't appear to be either (I am aware of their hatred for the jews).

I felt that she might have a deep hatred for Americans or just Thailand in General maybe.  She kept telling me to go back to Thailand and next time I should go to Singapore, don't come to Malaysia etc.  She knew I flew in from DMK and she saw the O-A visa in my passport.

People transit through KL by the millions...unlucky for you....

I'm just curious, does anyone know if they actually have the authority to place such a ban or blacklist you on a whim like that?

And if a traveler was banned or blacklisted for one reason or another, could he/she still transit or do short layovers in that country between his ongoing flights (in the terminal of course) without exiting immigration?

By the way, I noticed that Immigration at DMK was using fingerprint scanners at the international arrivals booths.  I mentioned that I had not seen those before and the IO replied that they were new and that it was their first day using them.

I think you would be asking for trouble if transiting through a place you were blacklisted from.  I heard the US wont allow you in its airspace.

  9. Espionage against the US is still espionage....a jury will be asked to vote guilty or not guilty...there is no allowance for philanthropy or charity.  A judge will sentence the convicted based on sentencing guidelines for the crime, and have only a little more leeway...IOW, he is going to do most of a 20, and that will be if he pleads guilty to one count..otherwise, he may face 200 years...looks like he is ready for the CM Expat Club..poor, broken, bearded....

  10. I saw the heineken NA yesterday and thought that would be a fairly easy mistake to make.  I think heineken is a thorn in the side of the government mobsters...they can kill the Tiger, but not Heiny....Even though Heiny and tiger are brewed in nonthaburi...it appears that many stores have been threatened about selling tiger...a premium brand selling for the same price as the standard duopoly piss.
