  1. latest news from people who seem to be in the know regarding UK expats. Opinions pls.
  2. I'll just use my UK Wise account/card , First £200 is free , then 1.75%. IE: £2000 GBP would cost £31.50 per month in ATM fees withdraw in Thai Baht at Wise Mid rate at the time . Side step the thai banks completely. KR
  3. https://forum.alzheimers.org.uk/threads/getting-a-feel-for-care-home-costs-per-person-per-week-across-uk-please-share.129489/
  4. Fella , Pls stop spreading totally inaccurate info. Residential care in the uk costs £6000 GBP + per month.. I am currently paying £6200 GBP per month for her residential care , this is because she has assets of more than £23500 when her funds are depleted the government will pay . The same care , if not better in thailand costs 1/3 of this . We are moving to LOS. k????
  5. I was assuming that it would be a retirement visa ? Grateful for any suggestions on this. kr
  6. Fair Question. i have arranged for another family member to be on standby if i was hospitalised or worse to fly to thailand to get her. Good point tho. ????
  7. https://www.ageuk.org.uk/globalassets/age-uk/documents/factsheets/fs40_deprivation_of_assets_in_social_care_fcs.pdf They are ruthless. They are looking for Cash and property . You also have to explain any expenditure you have made , even if you earnt it and paid tax on it .
  8. Yes. Correct. Thats exactly what they will do,and we will have no choice if we stay in the UK . I can't afford to pay for private care at £5k+ a month even before i pay any bills or have a life . We will have approx £450k in cash if we sell the house and move there , even earning 3% on no risk deposit gives us at least 20 years .
  9. Thanks for the reply However as my mum owns the house and the land its on she has to pay for her own care until her assets/cash are depleted to only £23500 then she would get government assistance. The UK social care system is ruthless. kr
  10. Thanks so much for this ! It seems like we will be self insuring for our loved one in there final years , She wants to come to thailand and be with me and i will feel so much better about her care and morally about myself , Avoiding the horrors of a Government care home , Not to mention the 5K a month + in the UK
  11. HI. i find myself in an impossible situation , just looking for opinions pls My 85 year old mother has mild alzheimer's , she has full capacity and is very mobile our doctor in the UK says there is certainly no cure and all i can do is make her final years as comfortable as possible . I won't put her in a UK care home at the cost of £5k+ per month so my only option is to bring her to thailand with me fairly soon I Can't get health insurance due to her age and the pre existing dementia . My mother cannot take any drugs due to allergy , I have accepted that she will receive palliative at her final time so insurance is probably useless . My idea is to rent a house outside Patts , Jomtein or Bang saray where i have a large circle of friends , I will live there with her and i plan to employ a nurse/carer for the few hours im not there to sit with her and assist her with bathing and personal hygiene etc. . I would like to here any views on the feasibility of this ? Also is there an agency or similar that provides in house care assistance? Many Thanks. KR
  12. I wonder what would happen ……… Refuse to go to hospital , Refuse any drugs , Demand to speak to your embassy , Demand a second test from another lab and verify the results . Agree to pay for quarantine that your already in until next day and leave on the next flight out to any country that will allow entry preferably home . If the lab results are correct and you are positive then the insurance has to pay anyway. What they gonna do strap you to a gurney. ? Opinions ?
  13. What hotel booking ref did you use ? Did you have to send doc to the hotel ? Thanks. Kr
  14. Hi. Perhaps some could confirm for me. I booked my Sha+ asq for 1 night via agoda , I recieved a booking confirmation from agoda and a receipt. However it says at the bottom of the page that I have to wait for an email from the hotel to also provide documents, ? Does this mean they will then send me a confirmation to make the Thailand pass application ? Has any applied with just the agoda confirmation ? Many Thanks. Kr.
