  1. This thread started off complaining about noisy laud mouthed farang tourists – surely the nosiest of all nationalities would have to be the Chinese. I’ve just returned from a trip to Macau on Air Asia – never again. They don’t know how to talk, just shout at the top of their voices all at the same time. They have no need for mobile phones.

  2. I’ve been lurking round this forum for some time. I’ve often been tempted to get involved and say something, especially when some idiot starts spouting about subjects they have no knowledge, like the young kindergarten kids criticizing their older brethren who are just leading a quite peaceful life in the autumn of their lives.

To get back to the debate – as an independent and unbiased observer/umpire I find that the “old Crocs” with their walking sticks, crutches and high powered wheel chairs to be the winners of this entertaining debate.

  3. Has any one seen the feature heading in to days Bangkok Post “Control of countryside will decide the war”.

It’s unbelievable that that the US & UN are only now discovering what the Romans taught us sentries ago.

Send them all back to Kindergarten ??!!

  4. Maybe you could contact BKK, or the embassy. But the tourist police here would at best politely listen to your complaints and do nothing about it... and let's not imagine the at worse scenario. Sorry to give you the bad news, but any other cop and I would say go for it. But Tony? No, let it be. Nasty nasty. And yes, it is the same Tony whose name is up on the KJ thread. So be warned. Wouldn't put it past him to be reading this either. Don't particularly care though. That type of behaviour is just repugnant.

Thanks for the info. I came across a similar trickster/crook in Bangkok about 25 years ago, he said he was a police colonel, I gave him his head, got him drunk one night and got hold of his ID number and handed it over to the local police with a written complaint. It turned out he was using the ID of a policeman who had passed away.

I think one should always be careful of any slick smooth talking stranger, no matter what country you are in.

  5. im sorry..im obviously stupidly naive here..

are you saying that if the friend has said he lived alone etc..that this undercover cop guy would have tried to hurt him? Or are you saying that he would have helped protect?

I think im living in a CM bubble. =/

    Hi eek,

Your not alone – it’s all way over my head as well. It would be nice if some kind soul explained in simple English to us simpleminded members, what is going on?!

  6. Time for me to stick my 2 cents back in.....

I have to partially agree and partially disagree with UG and some of the others.

Good or bad, up of down, may really depend on what segment of the hosp/tourist business you are in....It may also depend on what level of that segment you are in...

Yes – a good explanation and prognosis by Gonzo, it seems that businesses that rely on the farang tourist trade have suffered even more so this year than the last two years – and they were bad enough.

The clientele in my business are 88% Thai and business has never been better. There is a message there some where. Mind you we are not in the hospitality business.

Another unexplainable is where are all the travelers who made up the 38% increase in air travel to and from CM over the past 12 months.

  7. Hi Truman,

Unfortunately the good advise offered by others on this board is given after the horse has bolted. As suggested - you have made some early basic business mistakes which would apply in any country in the world. I strongly suggest that you seek qualified advice before you sink deeper into the mire. There are lawyers in Chiangmai who can asses your current situation and give you qualified advise.

The Lawyers Council of Thailand could recommend a local lawyer, they are at 7/89 Mansion 10, Rajdamnoenklang Ave, Bovonnivet, Phranakorn , Bkk 10200.

The President of the Council is Khun. Dej-Udom Krairit

I hope you are able to sort out the problem – remember, keep a cool head and be civil at all times.

  8. Good on you John. I look forward to your return, your Oz breakfast, our mid afternoon chats when we solved all the world's problems. I know that you’ll bounce back.

  9. Anyone aware if the 1st game of the Cricket world cup is on in any bars tonight?

You are obviously a cricket fan. May I suggest you check out the up and coming international cricket festival on your doorstep here in Chiangmai starting on the 1st of next month at the Gymkhana Club.

  10. I am usually quite strong willed when it comes to resisting the sort of bait laid by the Mongoose and the Dan Sai Kid in their interpretation of the word "Disaster ???"

Can I point out to these two gentlemen that first of all it was a question, not a statement of fact. Secondly, even if it was a statement of fact the word disaster is relative. To you a sequence of events might not be a disaster, but to others it would be.

  11. Anyone with 3m to spare can have it...probably a lot less now if it has closed down.

You will find it for sale at: www.jasminehomes.co.th

Thanks for the information – it was one of my favourite watering holes

  12. Know no details, but have seen it for sale for couple of months on a business broker website.

That could be the case - I was more worried about the welfare of the owner as I know he’s not been very well lately.

  13. Does anyone know what has happened to True Blue/Outback Pub/Restaurant.

Went there for my Friday morning Oz brekkie only to find the place locked up and deserted

  14. I have experienced similar occasions where hospitals overcharge or even try to charge for services not provided, it’s not only the Ram Hospital although they seem to be heavier handed than most. The bill should be closely scrutinized just as you do at a restaurant – as for sure - there will be discrepancies. Hospital medication is always more expensive than outside, even in my own home country.

The real worry is being treated for something you haven’t got!!! Never accept a diagnoses without getting a second opinion from a different doctor at a different hospital if at all possible. I know that is almost impossible in an emergency but I always get a second opinion as regards to ongoing treatment. My sister-in-law was diagnosed has having cancer during a routine check up and was booked in the next day for surgery, (no names – no pack drill). She went to another hospital for a second opinion to find that surgery was not recommended as there was no cancer.

Hospitals of differing standards, methods and access to modern diagnostic equipment frequently come up with contradictory analysis.
