  1. "The Elevator Association of Thailand"... Doesn't that sound just a little creepy? Groups of Thais huddled in elevators, stroking the panel work, taking pictures of each other pointing at classic or unique features, writing reports on famous elevators, or 'Elevators I rode on my holidays'... Thais going on holiday just to ride in elevators. Making and selling models of them. Having their own websites with flame wars between posters when describing models, manufacturers or types. Collecting elevator serial numbers...

    NURSE! More medication please!

  2. I guess it's worth it to some people.I imagine they are circulated a lot more than the 500 and 1000 baht note.

You've got to consider the punishment if caught, here it is basically the same as murder, a lot of risk for little profit

Considering the statistics of people charged with and actually found guilty of murder, that might not seem like a bad risk.

Now, if they were to do it under the "lesse majeste" rules (where is my spell checker?) wherein the forger is copying a picture of HRH... ouch, that would get them slammed up pretty quick.

  3. "...and may appoint the ban of some sale channels such as online sale and direct sale..."

Little confused here. So the only way to get a beer would be in a bar or restaurant? Well, that encourages local business on one hand and discourages it on the other.

Hmmm, I wonder if phoning the wife's sister in her corner shop, a kilometre down the road, to have a nephew bring over a case of beer counts as "Online shopping"...

  4. Water expert: Only two rain storms are expected rest of the year

Ok, rainstorms, listen up, if there are more than two of you going to Thailand by the end of the year, you will be sued for defamation of our water expert!

Yeah! And you two had better make sure you bring at least 6,000 million cubic metres of water between you, or else it's 44 time for the pair of you. Oh yeah, and you've got make it all average out to 600 million cubic metres per month as well otherwise, as Klauskunkel said, we're setting the lawyers on you asses for defaming our main man.

  5. My daughter has ordered from Lazada and it was a so-so experience. Acceptance of the order, paid for, delivered within time period. Nothing bad, nothing good, just what was expected.

Personally I've never used Lazada, for me InvadeIT is the 'go to' company and Thomas' quick responses to any all communications are the biggest part of that. From acceptance emails, information of where the order is, follow up queries as to acceptability and casual conversation on products. It all seems much more personal, which makes a difference.

  6. I feel it's a sorry state of affairs when only the victim gets to point at the apprehended criminal. And there's only one cop in the picture.

I long for the good old days when the handcuffed felon would be surrounded by grinning police men, at least 6, and half of them would be pointing while the other half just adopted a "concerned" pose. Or the wonderful renactments where the criminal was made to retrace his exact actions during some horid assault, all for the TV cameras and our viewing pleasure.

I believe it's little things like this that have destroyed the public faith in the BiB. I would write a letter to my wives MP, but he's now out of a job. Still, we loyal TV members should make a stand here and demand that the BiB bring back pointing!

  7. My grandfather smoked. At the age of 5 I admired him so much I declared that, when I was older, I was going to smoke as well. He just smiled a gnarly smile, took me from the kitchen where the whole family was gathered, out into teh back garden. He then put out his cigarette and pulled out two Players unfiltered.

He said, in his Leicester accent "Best start now then". So he gave me one, put the other in his mouth, lit it, sucked in a deep breath, held it for a 10-15 count and exhaled. "That's the way you smoke son" he said. "Now you try." He then lit the cigarette for me. I placed it to my lips and sucked in a huge great lung full.

The rest of the day was a total blur. Projectile vomiting was the least effect. I think it took me a week to recover. And even now, 50 years later, a cigarette getting too close triggers the gag reaction. Very smart man my grandfather, didn't realise it until my teens though.

  8. "There were 627 cases concerning human trafficking under prosecution. The court has sentenced 225 traffickers and many of them were jailed for more than two years, according to statistics of the Department of Special Investigation"

So, going back to the report on Yuyee, sentenced to 15 years for carrying 0.25mg of cocaine, plus 3 months for endangering rare animals. And yet a slave trader (that's possibly a bit harsh but seems to fit) gets only 2 years in jail?

It's a funny place this eh?

  9. We see the petty bickering of the politicians and all the scandals and "shock horror" events going by. We see the corruption and lawsuits of people who should define morality and lead thier nation to better things and we are saddened, infuriated and bewildered.

But we also see where the true moral compass points, the true leader of 'the little people'. The one person who stands above it all. A person whose words, whose actions, whose life pretty much defines service to the country. The King. A person for whom I and many other expats have nothing but awe and admiration.

Best of birthday wishes your highness and long may you reign over this lovely land.

  10. Jing Jing??? You mean you can toil in the hot Isaan sun for 12 hours a day and make a whopping $6,000 USD per year? Where do I sign? Or rather, where does my lovely Isaan daughter sign? Oh, wait...You mean she can make that in 2 months on Soi Cowboy instead? Hmmm...let me think....

You may be underestimating the amount of floating money available for an evenings entertainment. In 2 months? If she's that lovely, and sticks to expats, then 4-5 weeks. If it's Cobra-Gold time, more likely 4 weeks but it'll be a lot more wearing on the poor lass.

  11. The unmentioned part is that the park officials aren't trying to enforce the rules, they are trying to get the hunters to pay them bribes to hunt. The park system has the most corrupt law enforcement entity in Thailand.

Oh now come on. No way are they the most corrupt law enforcement entity in Thailand. Why, the Customs lads are FAR more corrupt. Then there's the border police and thier anti-logging check points and don't forget the Pattaya tourist police!

I'll admit they may be in the top 5 but, even leaving the entire cabinet (who, as ultimate law makers should be included in the list of entities) and the Supreme Court (same reasons), I think there's intense competition here for the post of "Most Corrupt".

  12. You can almost see teh cabinet meeting -

Desease Control says hand out condoms, keep the kids safe,

Culture replies with sex outside of marriage in not 'Thai', they're bad people, jail them.

Interior says police are overworked counting existing back handers but will accept the chance for more backhanders

Education says 'we did a program of sex education a few years back, our work is done'.

It looks like only the ministry of defence has no part in this discussion.
