OP, just noticed that you are married. In that case you also have to convince ther ECO that your true intention is not simply to get your wife to the UK cheaply and without satisfying the requirements for a spouse visa and that once there she will just disappear.

You therefore would be well advised to provide evidence of a settled life in Thailand for you all - as a family unit.

Married and here for 11 or 12 years too

  2. Thanks everyone and aware of having to fill application on line and is it 3 months before travel and I know questions about date of travel and return date but one can not anwer that until the vis has actually been granted.
My Wife and our 2 Grandchildren and myself have been in Thailand 12 years.
One stupid question I know I am a British Citizen and will provide the funds for our holiday visit and surely I do not need a visa and have an English passport!!!

  3. Hi Folks have tried the GOv. UK sites but it does not give an address and the last time I had a query was when the  eligible for pension came through the post and Wolverhampton Mailing A
I want to inform them by letter ofcourse  about a change of bank code and where do I send it Newcastle or Wolverhampton and did a search and the addresses do not come up.
    Thanks for any help

The short answer to your question is, yes, lots of Thai people have successfully applied for Visit Visas to visit the UK, if you have a look through the threads on this forum you will find lots of experiences, positive and negative.

You might want to have a look at the pinned topic at the head of this section of the forum, lots more advice there.

In a quick answer to your question, yes applicants have to apply online and visit VFS to have their biometric details captured, the application is then considered by UKVI staff based in Delhi.

The process is not that difficult, the applicants need to satisfy the decision maker that their proposed trip is genuine, affordable and that that, on the balance of probabilities, they will return to Thailand, that's usually having strong ties here. Before we can advise you further you need to give us a bit more background, do you live with your wife in Thailand, do the grandchildren live with your wife or their parents?

Some people use an agent, some don't, it's a personal choice, I personally wouldn't use an agent for a straight forward application, but some find using one comforting, they would probably be in the price range you mention. If you're contemplating using an agent, then consider one who is registered with OISC, Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner, whilst it's not a legal requirement to be registered here in Thailand doing so means they are fully qualified to give that advice.

Thanks the old git and everyone else.
Yes, I have been married for 14 years and been back in Thailand for over 11 years and live with my Thai wife and the 2 Grandchildren aged 14 and 12 live with us.
Thanks for all your helpful replies and yes there are questions who is travelling  with you to the UK and somehow this is cross referenced but wondering if say VFS Global would link the 3 applications together and we get the same date and time for our appointment.
Thanks again and it's like renewal of British passports and when one gets the documents in ones hand, then the worries diminish and yes we all worry about things and especially our families.

  5. Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me and has anyone on here obtained an on line tourist visa to the UK and believe VFS Global? deal with this and also believe some professional agencies deal with this and is it right that Baht 30K and is that reasonable?
I believe one has to go down to Bangkok or Agency for finger prints, photos  and paper work and then sent to India.
I will be very appreciative if any one has obtained this visa in this way and was the process very difficult.
Yes believe that for my Thai wife and 2 Grandchildren aged 14 and 12 years the appointment dates would be at the same time and date and believe one cannot apply until 3 months before intended travel.
Many thanks and any on sites appreciated.

  6. Hi and just wanted to inquire if anyone has  obtained a tourist visa in Thailand and believe it might be done on line via VFS GLOBAL???  Was it easy and wanting 3 six monthly one for my wife and 2 Grandchildren aged 14 and 12 years old and believe many personal questions and ideally would want to apply for the same time and date
Also certain professional agencies quoting 30K for the whole procedure and is this fee reasonable.
In both cases one has to go down to Bangkok or the the agents and photos and finger prints and height are measured and then they send to India?
Any help much appreciated and I think it is a very complex issue.
Many thanks and would like to know how "easy"? this is.

Use http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ to narrow down dates (You can search for dates up to 1 month after a date & for a duration of up to 7 days difference - e.g. 12-19 days from 1st February would pull back all 12-19 day flight options until 1st March) & nearby airports (Not that handy for UK, but might be worth it to you if don't mind going to London instead of Manchester for example...)

Once you have your dates, airlines & duration, use Skyscanner, Expedia, Kayak & the Airlines own site to find the best deal

Thanks, Mike and others and assume if booking on line are tickets sent or printed from home computer.

  8. Thanks for the replies and was wondering these flights on line from the airline I assume the tickets can printed from own computers and not intending to travel until the earliest for possibly March 2020 and can one book that far in advance, but first the hassle of the tourist visa to the UK to get for my Family.

Hopefully, this will avoid numerous scaremongering, nonsensical posts as in the other threads about the insurance

It quite clearly states long term tourists and yes indeed a very good idea and yes so much more money would be obtained and as for those who are living here on long term permission to stay and appears maybe in due course it will be extended to all of us and yes surely if one can show a reserve for an emergency figure and yes does not take in to account properties owned.
Yes the tourists do cost a lot of money and many somehow simply cannot pay.
we all await but if one has a current permission to stay then in any case still would be valid, but who knows in the future and it depends on the interpretation of this, as usual

  10. Hi and  the multi million question.
What is going to happen to Sterling after the UK it seems crashing out of the EU without a deal and most of us have not got a pot of gold.
IMHO I think against the very strong Baht it will weaken further, but who knows and no expert and us ex pats are really struggling and yes indeed the Thais are feeling the pinch as well, well everyone is to be frank.
Even the so called measures by the Treasury of Thailand the other week has it seems no effect whatsoever.
Worrying times for those on frozen state pensions and the very poor exchange rates.
    What are your views?

  11. Hi Folks
I have tried to find this topic but cannot find one.
Just asking a few questions if I may and understand in the main on www.mfa.go.uk  and Thailand life and not sure if things have been amended.
Anyhow cut to the chase is it still the case that both blood parents should attend Chaeng  Wattana or a Guardian to go through the procedure.
The 2 Granddaughters  are both under 15 years of age and my Thai wife has the same surname as their Thai Id cards, which makes me believe my wife is the Guardian.
Yes, indeed we have raised them from babies and obviously apart and divorced.
If one blood parent cannot attend:-
However, not sure on this but if one cannot attend on the day a parential consent form needs to be done, but if my wife is Guardian would that be enough on its own?
Thanks for any information and at least one works away most of the time.
