  1. It’s gone! I’ve had a Thai friend want a sizeable sum for a venture too, I refused, she got the money from someone else, and you guessed it, 100% was instantly history! A German friend of mine sent his long term thai girlfriend money for a house. She continued to say she was doing house repairs so hadn’t moved in yet, thinking she would get more money. My friend arrived in Thailand. The girlfriend, said she would take him to the house after they had a holiday and did some travelling. Long story short, the truth came out, it had to, there was no house, she pocketed all the money! As people have said, if you can’t afford to lose the money, then do not lend it to anyone, especially a Thai woman! Once it’s given, it’s a gift! No paper trail, or contract, then no money back! But yes, good luck.

I have been here a long time.  I have been attacked unprovoked on 3 occasions.

And for video footage there is no better example of the Australian bloke years ago who was attacked by thugs outside the Taipan??? bar at the end of Bangla road.  His crime was photographing the thugs beating on some other tourists.

He stabbed the thug that was attacking him (he was a charter captain and had a rigging knife in his pocket).  Thug died and he was charged with murder.  But luckily CCTVs caught the incident (showing the dead thug entirely in the wrong) and so he was able to bribe his way out, I think the brown paper envelope was to the tune of a million plus.

Anyone in Phuket know what ended up happening to him.  He had a Thai wife and a large charter business at the time.

Taipan is run by scamming Russian mafia thugs and wannabe Thai gangsters. First hand experience in there very recently. An absolute scum hole of a place. A place to avoid at all costs. Just look at the reviews!

  3. Tourist visa 45 days, yippee! 5555

I’m currently in Cambodia, planning to get a Thai tourist visa (yes 60 days) I would like to get it online but impossible as I do not live here, seems ridiculous that you have to be in your country of residence to get the online evisa. You can apply for it of course but you get a message saying the application could take several weeks.

  4. This is my recent fare breakdown, but it does not show which country gets what, and is very unclear about these fees totalling $145.76.

An extra 300 baht hardly makes a difference to an international trip.

    Cost breakdown
    Ticket fare: 1290
    New Border Clearance Levy 43.74
    Passenger Security Charge (international)16.32
    Passenger Service Charge (International) 15.99
    Passenger Service Charge (International) 14.71
    Airport Development Levy 6.60
Passenger Service and Security Fee 13.00
Advance Passenger Processing User Charge 1.60
Advance Passenger Processing User Charge 1.60
International Arrival and Departure Fees 0.70
International Arrival and Departure Fees 0.70
    Passenger Service Charge(Domestic/International) 30.80
    Grand total: NZD 1,435.76

Rather than worry about a small fine, what you should be concerned about is the fact that without a Licence, your Insurance is invalid.

Imagine the cost of repairing someone's Mercedes, or worse, a large hospital bill for someone you injure.

A Thai Licence costs a few hundred baht and can be done in one day.

I want to get my Thai drivers licence for a motorbike, as I do not have a motorbike licence in my country and have never ridden a bike in my country and only want to ride in Asia. But it has been pointed out to me that there is something like a 3 month wait to sit the licence due to covid lockdowns etc. Quicker option is to apply through an agent. Still looking for someone suitable.

  6. It has certainly been extremely difficult to arrange travel from NZ. From most other counties they have multiple flights to Asia, not here, my city Christchurch has only just started 1 flight per day to Singapore. No other options. After several days of regular flight searches I found something that suited me. So will arrive late April. Happy i will not have to pay $200 for pre departure testing. I see many people say have to pay to go to hospital when asymptomatic, but this is not the case at all. Can isolate at a hotel or even at an Airbnb or a friend's place. Rule of thumb is pay nothing up front. But anyway, hopefully I will not have any issues upon my arrival.

  7. I understand TIT but at least they’re trying to get a few tourists in. 555.

Here in NZ absolutely nothing tourist wise will even be considered until at least October. Most of the country, more than 90% of all people over 12 are fully vaccinated and about 40% boostered. Covid numbers are at all time highs, we can not attend sports events, all concerts have been cancelled, all functions of more than 100 fully vaccinated are banned. Those unvaccinated can do almost nothing, no bars, no restaurants and no travel anywhere. The unvaccinated can legally only attend supermarkets and doctors! If a bar is caught with unvaccinated people then the staff on duty and the owner are heavily fined.

I will certainly be doing my best to return to thailand, I do wish it was easier to get there, but it is what it is!

  8. Can someone please confirm to me what exactly happens to those that test positive in Thailand.

Do they all get hospitalised? Or are there special facilities to house those that do not actually need costly hospital care?

Here in NZ we have quarantine hotels for all returnees (same as thailand), but if someone tests positive then they are moved to a special facility until they recover.
Very few cases are ever hospitalised.
