Transport minister pledges Thailand will become hub of luxury liners
oznomad replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Actually, since Sep 2020, there have been 5 million 'idiots' on 240 ships, visiting 87 countries. Perhaps a broadening of your horizons might be of advantage. -
The best country for expats to relocate to has been named

Facts are irrelevant for such lists. -
That's all very well, except for a few things. Will the desired rich tourists pick up a pad thai and a beer for lunch at a family restaurant? Will they weave through markets, buying t-shirts, elephant pants, and a few spare pairs of jocks? Will they rent beach chairs, buy beers from the chair owner and street food from the peddlers? Will they make their way around in baht buses, tuk tuks, motorbike taxis? Will they go on pub / bar crawls, spending their money in 10 different places in a night? Will they stay in 2 or 3 star accommodation, either in cities or in rural areas? Will they slip into a dingy massage shop for a therapeutic rub? No? How will the Thais that have been providing these services, and have struggled through covid, waiting for things to get better, make a living in the years to come? Perhaps the 5 star hotels might share their profits with those mentioned above, and it will all be just rosy. As always, zero thought has gone into the plan.

Issuing free e-vaccine passports from 1-31 Dec 2021
oznomad replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Anyone got a valid email I can use? I tried 5 different ones - all invalid. Called the three "help" lines. Line 1. Waited forever on hold. Nothing. Line 2. Eventual answer. Asked for English. Sawadeekaaa. English? Sawadeekaa. English? Hung up on me. Line 3. Constantly engaged. If I start charging for my time for ridiculous govt things, at what level will I have to pay tax? -

Thailand Tax Identification Number (TIN)
oznomad replied to Nik23's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Why? Do you think they do a great job with the taxes? 1. If your pension is taxed in your home country, then you will be exempt from tax on it here. 2. If you have a capital amount that is over 12 months old you could draw on that and replace it with pension income, thereby avoiding the tax. -
Thailand Tax Identification Number (TIN)
oznomad replied to Nik23's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Ummmm. Not quite. Any number of days does not make you resident. That's why, here for example, there are 473 different visas and to get one of them often involves jumping through many hoops. Otherwise we would all just stay 180 days and be resident. Your country is NOT going to chase you down and say we dont want your taxes any more, give them to some other country. Getting a TIN seems to differ depending where you live. In my case it was passport, plus Cert of Residence from Immigration. Nothing too difficult. Actually filing a tax return was a different story. An unsuccessful one. Important point. Having a Thai TIN does NOT make you tax resident in Thailand. The TIN is just an admin thing, albeit one that can be very useful, and possibly negate your need for tax residency here. -
Dont come around here with your logic. It's not welcome. ????

Search Lazada for P47. I paid 97 baht a few weeks back. Pleasantly surprised with sound quality and battery life. Recharge with micro USB (normal phone charger). Also has a slot for TF card. Easy bluetooth connection to TV, phone and computer. They also fold up for travel. I dont know how they can make them at that price.

Many doubt Thailand’s readiness in gradual reopening
oznomad replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not much to be concerned about. The lack of flights, along with the fact that many that may have come in previous years are now suffering their own financial dilemmas due to job losses, etc, etc, etc, will keep the influx to low numbers. -
And there we have it. A good portion of what is wrong with the world. People with scant information, and less knowledge on the subject matter, appointing themselves, judge, jury and executioner.
