  1. Out in Isaan it was OK for Thailand. Bangkok was usually too busy for them to do anything too stupid (although scooters managed to obliterate themselves quite regularly). Up here in Chiang Mai they're dreadful. The scooters and parked vehicles take up 2 out of 3 lanes on the bigger roads and quite often scooters like to veer into the only lane left for cars in an attempt to leave this present life. The Mae On road is full of idiots who think the yellow-lined central area is their own lane to the traffic lights as they're too important to wait like most, meaning they often take out bikes crossing over. The road has numerous examples of Thai road art done by the 'police'. Sitting in the fast lane blocking it for everyone else is also a common trait.

I'm moving house at the weekend so I can walk to work as I've had enough of their stupidity and ignorance.

  2. The base Attrage has to be THE cheapest looking car in the world...cheap and ugly. The cheapest tires with shitty little plastic discs on them. 430k is a remarkable price for a new car, however. If you just need it for rainy days, it would probably be fine.

I paid 580k for my base model Mazda 2, but I think it's a good looking car with real tires and a nice interior. I've driven it all over Thailand and I don't have a complaint.

You really get what you pay for. There are a few other cheap cars that you might look at. The Suzuki is a good buy.

See what the price includes. I got a lot of little extras like mats and the first year's insurance.

The Jazz is the best in class but it's a lot more. Well worth it in my opinion. I was trying to buy just after the Japan Tsunami and the Mazda was the only car available for months.

The Jazz isn't an EcoCar and therefore not in the same class. The Jazz isn't even the best in its own class.
  3. I think Ford many years ago employed a bunch of ex-Massey Ferguson mechanical engineers to do their diesel work. Even the newish 2.2 has MF sounds!

Strangely, 2 people who both have Vigos and one now has a brand new Chevy (also a poster on this thread so can confirm) have commented on how much more refined my 2.5 Ranger engine sounds compared to theirs.
  4. I'm surprised. The Lanna Food Court on the basement level at Central Airport (not the one upstairs by the cinema) is as good as it gets and on par with some better food courts in Bangkok.

I was going to mention that & also it is always filled with Thai's

so food must be good.(the one outside Rimping)

When did Thais suddenly develop a pallete? I must've missed that?

  5. The problem is that not enough Thais like it and the reasons for that are unlikely to be found here since this is not a forum for Thai opinion.

Sounds great to us. Promenada has less zombies getting in the way than the other malls in CM, except for maybe Maya. And, despite popular belief, not all westerners live in Hang Dong, so its very convenient for some of us less sheeple foreigners.
  6. In Chiang Mai recently, you were carted off to the police cells, whoever you were, Thai or farang, car or motorbike. You would then appear in court the next working day and be fined 20,000 baht. I didn't have the pleasure, but know people that did. Previously, people had the option of diverting to the ATM to contribute to the RTP's Tetley's tea fund, 10k or more, before a new chief went on a crackdown. Not sure of the MO now.

Add to that, that you will be deported since you're convicted for a criminal offense.

Utter nonsense. I know of 2 convictions (I was in the car when one of the stops was made) and all that happened was the person is arrested, taken to the station, sent home, back in the morning to stsnd before the judge, fine given, then sent home - job done.

No deportation, no notes made in the person's passport, no problem to return here in the future.

  7. My policy is to wait 6 months, from any new product launch, in order that the first production problems are ironed out. I was looking at the Ford Focus, Nissan and a few others at a recent motor show and was appalled at the misalignment in the body panel assembly as well as various other assembly and design problems. A friend who used to manage Ford Asia for many years, bought a Honda when he left the Ford company. That says it all.

I had the Honda Civic for 6 years with no problems and last year sold it for B465,000 which means they hold a reasonable price. I then bought the Honda CRV and we are very pleased with it. It does 11.4kms/litre which is the same as the 2.0litre Ford Focus, and it can run on cheap E20.

Nothing to do with Ford not having a mid-sized saloon car available in Thailand?
  8. Thats right but I was going full whack on 500 at times when I needed to do it quickly and wasnt impressed specially if an as...le at the side starts to accelerate just to annoy you.

Yes I just saw this on FB yesterday

The 500 is good till 160 but struggles from 160kph & has not much left after that

I was a bit surprised as i thought it did better

But this guy is pretty clear

Mine struggles from 130kph, but it's a bit heavier than most CB500s... whistling.gif

  9. Finally I drove it! Wonderful small sport wagon!

The 7 speed AUTO and double disk brakes are coming in the MODULO version. The seats folding system still amazing, and seats are the same like the Jazz and City. Only the two ones on the 3rd row are not so confi, because its are removables. Taking those out, the car becomes a 5 seater with a NICE cargo space, and also folding the 2nd row, a 2 seater with a BIG cargo space.

Well named. Mobilio. You can do a house moving with this small car.

In reality this car is a City 1.5 cc, 7 passengers Station Wagon, for 670K with auto trans, and alloy weels. A nice sporty looking too. Great buy in my opinion.

The interior is closer to a brio than a jazz. Notice the fixed headrest, which the the same as the brio and not the dash. The dash looks very similar to the jazz. I'm guessing honda does not want to cut into sales of the jazz, so have made it dissimilar from the jazz. That might explain why the price is good. If I needed seven seats, I'd go for it, but if not, I'd still get the jazz. At least the mobilio has all dark interior now and looks better than the brio interior.

I didn't like the dash design. I do not need 7 seats but I like the extra cargo room. I will like to see and drive the MODULO model with leather, 7 speed auto, etc, and wider tires. May be a cheaper competition to the Mazda 3.

It' not even on the same planet as the Mazda 3.
