Embassies are there to promote their own country, business, culture, democracy etc. Why should they help ex citizens who have chosen to live elsewhere ? betraying the birthright of that very country. Seems fair enough to me, tough shit.

To late the damage is done, they’ve never wanted us now they’re paying the price. Never seen Pattaya so dead hotels laying off staff and reducing salaries. As for condos can’t give them away had it coming for many years, most racist country on the planet

They want 800.000 into a Thai bank so that if you die intestate they will keep it or else pick up the interest as a "fee" for holding it. Your lawyers in the UK or US will take about two years to get it back for a nice fee, and the bank also gets a nice fee for the transfer.
Well said I’ve been saying this all along, just scammers from top to bottom

People paying more than the 1900 required are mugs, they will pay more in the long run than having the funds in the bank here. People who say they are worried about depositing money in a Thai bank probably just cannot. When I deposited my 800k it cost 12k UK pounds, it's now worth about 50% more!
That’s because the pound has decreased nothing to do with having money in Thai bank. Your 800,000 baht is still only worth £12k in real terms U.K. economy.

Face facts, Thais don’t want you here and embassies not interested, why should an embassy help someone who doesn’t want to live in their country of birth, not a good reflection on the home country. Live with it couldn’t give a toss.

Could’ve bought the whole car in the U.K. for that.

Its called lifestyle choice I guess. 800,000 baht at 7% ROI (your example) is 56,000/yr. 800,000 baht in a twelve month term deposit (at Kasikornbank for example) is 10,400/yr - thats 45600 baht difference or 3800 baht per month. I don't know about you but I would think that the cost of living difference between Thailand and a western country would make it worth sacrificing 3800 baht a month to live there.
Low cost of living in Thailand is a myth, I’m a British 6 months about man. Supermarkets, cars, even drink is cheaper in the U.K. once they realise. ( which they are slowly ) that accommodation is cheaper than the west and jump on the band wagon it’s game over.

They know something we don’t getting as much outside cash into Land of Scams as possible. Are they going tits up then it’s thank you Velly much. Solly money all for Thailand.

I’m sure the U.K. government has more on its plate than to be conserned about verifying a few expats income. The decision is made you won’t change it live with it. Answer stick the required amount into a Thai bank. Dodgy I know but that’s the solution and if you haven’t got the required amount what are you doing here.

Thank God I do 6 months about from Britain and didn’t retire to land of scams burning my bridges with the UK. No visa problems for the sensible ones.

Dodgy bank account? You really are talking rubbish. Been here 9 years with a Thai bank account, never had a problem, so what's "dodgy" about it? Who are these 'silly old sods" you are talking about?
Ever tried transferring money back to your own country that’s what’s dodgy about them. And I’ve been out here a lot longer than 9 yrs. The silly old sods are the ones who have burnt their bridges you are probably one of them.

It’s the Thais, demanding all the silly old sods living out there permanently deposite a wedge into a dodgy Thai bank account before the country goes belly up. Then it’s bye bye wedge another scam they’ve thought up.

Could have been worse you could have been in the UK drinking
then you would have something to complain about price wise
Absolute rubbish, a pint of real beer Abbots Bitter in any Wetherspoons £2.25 equates to approximately 100 baht.

Obvious to anyone with half a brain the 20000 baht went straight into the I.O. Pocket, so didn’t need to officially record the overstay, thank you very much.
When is a person 50 years old ... in Thailand?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

The day after you are 49yrs and 364 days old, and the day before you are 50yrs and 1 day old. Simple really.
