I hope they are good , because good cheese at a reasonable price is very hard to find in Thailand , especially away from cities and tourist spots . Make sure you check the use by or made date ( if you can believe it ) , because Macro's cheese is very often old .

They brought an xray machine and a radiologist out to the scene, i take it?
No , after being transported to the hospital , and the above mentioned machine and doctor ascertained that she had a broken collar bone etc , the radiologist assumed that it must have happened as a result of the accident , ( not in the ambulance ) . The above description of what happened as a result of an accident is quite common .

I think it's worth mentioning that when you get older and don't don't have as much desire for happy endings etc , RURAL ISN'T CHEAPER THAN URBAN . It's the same in most countries . Accommodation ( buying , renting , hotel stay ) is way cheaper in the country , but it evens out in other costs . The obvioius one is that you don't have to have a car to get around in a city , and if you want visit the country , the city has the best deals on car rentals . Everything else is a little more expensive -- petrol , furniture , appliances imported food ( and wine ), kids toys are all a little more in the country ., Gai yang and fish , even fruit is cheaper in BKK than Issan .

Born in London , spent most of my life in Sydney and 10 years in Osaka , recently spent 6 years in a smallish Issan town . Definitely City for me . No need for a car in big cities now , public transport is great and a great saving of money . Hospitals , bars , sport venues , restaurants , quality of food in general , all better in the city , House rent or buy , more expensive in City but offset by no need for a car . I'm now in a country town in NSW , Australia ( back to Issan soon ), same boredom here --- Sydney much better . I knew a farang who died in an ambulance on the way from the small town hospital to a bigger town , because the former didn't have a cardiologist .
The village . Auggh . Tried it for 2 weeks . The false dawn chook contest at 3am , the mother in law's smokey fire at 4;30 am , the real chook contest at 5 , the motorbikes starting up at 5;30 . The village dogs in packs , the lack of decent food , no decent wi fi . What a nightmare .

This was at the Khon Kaen Immigration Office on the 11th November. My pension is paid directly from the Reserve Bank in Australia into my Bangkok Bank account in Khon Kaen and it is paid in every 4 weeks which gives me 13 payments which is what upset the IO because he said must be 12 monthly payments. The Police Order states that the income method is the average annual monthly income, which according to that I had no problems. Now I have a Non-Imm "O" visa based on marriage from Savannakhet which is good for 15 months and there is no financials involved with it, the only thing is that instead of doing a 90 day report at the local Imm Office I must do a border run. The only other way was to go through an agent who would have shared the fee with this IO and the fee was 20,000
What sort of pension do you have ? I'll be heading to Thai next year and my Aussie Old Age Pension will be sent fortnightly . So that's about 26 payments per year . The average over the year should bring it up to about 40,000 per month , and I was hoping to be able to add a small , regular payment from my Aussie bank to make sure it was comfortably over 40,000 . Does this mean I've got buckleys .

Anyway you can have no regrets
with the ridiculous amount of taxes on the wine in Thailand
it's really a customer rape and money abuse even for a basic vinegar style low wine
I know . I'm back in Australia at the moment and drinking more wine than I would normally . Quality wine and so much cheaper than in Thailand .

Without the numbers ( unless you can read Thai ) you wouldn't know there was any difference . I wonder how often it happens without us realizing .

We have an 8 y.o. son and are also considering a move to Ubon R town . I am eagerly awaiting replies to Q3 . Come on , where's the info/advice ?

Noise is my biggest dislike of Thailand ( I have many more likes than dislikes ) . Whether it's booming music at concerts and festivals , incredibly loud volume speeches and announcements at schools and on planes , or the problem the OP has at the night market , there's nothing anyone can do about it --- especially not farangs .

There is a big difference between verifying a self written letter about someone's income and NON GOVERNMENT documents that show it , and verifying an Old Age Pension , which IS a GOVT DOCUMENT. I don't see why the Aussie Embassy ( or govt policy makers ) can't allow verification of the OAP .
-
I CAN'T understand why the Aussie Embassy , a govt office can't , certify proof of a govt Old Age Pension . I CAN understand them not certifying someone's self written letter about their income .

The au embassy will not "follow" because they were using stat dec previously. Stat decs can only be used within Australia. According to published info and endorsed by embassy staff.
So that means that there must have been a change of policy regarding stat decs , and that change of policy happened coincidentally , at the same time as the Brit and U S Embassies stopped their proof of pension / income letters .
-
Could an American or Brit please write to their Embassy and ask the specific question ---- If Embassies of other countries can still provide these proof of pension income letters for their citizens , why can't ours ? What's the difference ? Because if the Brit and American Embassies change their minds the Aussie Embassy will follow suit , and I'll be happy .

Yes , it's certainly a problem outside BKK . No one seems to to take responsibility and do something about it , like a lot of other things .

Park means Smith in English . It's like Ngyuen in Vietnamese , Sharma in Indian and Amir in Arabic . All very common names .
There was a story in newspaper in the 90s about a bloke called Im who escaped from a jail in Korea . The paper said that the Police thought they'd caught Im in a restaurant , only to find that it was not Im . They later found Im hiding under a house .

You can only get one 60 day extension per entry.
If you are the legal father of your child by way of marriage or legitimization of your parenthood you could apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration. The extension would allow you to stay in the country as long as you want to by applying for a new extension every year. You would need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only or proof of 40k baht income.
My belief is that I will need to have been in Thailand for a year straight to show evidence of 40k per month , before applying for the year extension . I'll be returning to Thailand next year after 2 years in Australia . It looks like I should be able to get the non-o for 3 months , then the 60 day extension . The problem is how to stay with my son for the following 7 months until I can show the regular 4k baht over a year .

I assume you mean that you want a Non O visa for yourself, based on being the parent of Thai kids. Usually for the kids themselves, it is easier just to use Thai passports.
For you, a single entry Non O allowing a 90-day stay, requires the original birth certificate, plus a copy, a copy of the kid's ID cards if they are old enough to have them, and a copy of the housebook where the kids are registered. Depending on where you apply, you may need to show some financial proof. Where will you be applying?
You may be able to get a one year, multiple entry Non O to visit your kids, providing 90-days on each entry. At most embassies and consulates, these are no longer available.
Once in Thailand, you can apply for extensions of your permission to stay. A single 60-day extension of each entry into Thailand is easy to get. You just need the birth certificate, 1,900 baht, and one or more of your kids with you. (You can also get this extension if in Thailand on a tourist entry.) A longer one-year extension of your permission to stay is possible, but more involved. Ask again if you want details about that.
I'm hoping to do the same as sunsamurai . After getting the non - o based on having a Thai child , can the above described extension be accomplished without leaving Thailand ? Is it possible to get repeat extensions ?( without leaving the country hopefully ) . How many times ?
Which smart phone for my 10-year old daughter?

I don't want to give my son ( now 8 y.o. ) a phone , for the above reasons , at least until he's a teenager . Any suggestions on how to deal with the peer pressure he'll have , to get one , like all his school friends ? I'm worried he'll be treated differently to other students . He already has to deal with being a 'look krung'.
