  1. Yeah rice farmers haven't been paid in some areas, as the government wasn't expecting such a large rice harvest. This could be what she was meaning.

Alternatively she might be a contracted staff member, as opposed to a permanent government employee. They are often paid out of a special budget, sometimes schools overspend from the special budget. I had this happen to me when I first came to Thailand, they eventually paid me in full, but it was a couple of months late.

No she is a government employee....family member (hence my suspicions...just checking up on her)

Is she asking for money or 'help'?

Well not directly ,i was told this story about not being paid over a month ago...no money was requested then..now its got to month 2 the mother (teacher) asked her daughter(my girlfriend) for money (even though she had already helped her out by buying food and paying the bills)...........my girlfriend refused to give any more, she didnt have it.........then my girlfriend gets beaten up badly by her brother (i have some proof of this).

  3. The Khon Kaen police runs a control & check operation.

For a cool 1000 baht per month they will check your house, every day, once in the daytime, once in the night.

Various times, never the same time.

    It most certainly works.

Send me a PM if you are interested, will give your address to the checking policemen, then some policeman will visit you and make arrangements.

Thanks hansnl ,i have sent you my details...you are a life saversmile.png

  4. Strange how so many topics about Thailand degenerate into a discussion about the merits (or not) of a bar girl wife....well after being married to one...23 years of visiting thailand including living in LOS for 8 years....i can honestly say i wouldnt ever marry a bar girl again and 90% of couples in this category split up....England is littered with them....

  5. Been a while since i posted on thai visa,my girl friend in kon kaen (kranuan) who is a school teacher has been the victim of repeated attempts by several thai men to break into her house at night (while she and her mother were sleeping there),they have tried to break through the roof, and seem to be coming back several times to try to get in.

She has attempted to contact the local police, but they dont seem interested to come and look into it,iam very worried for her safety and cant come back to see till after christmas.......has anyone got any suggestions...short of paying a policeman B500 per night to guard the house (last option ).

  6. No hospital is perfect(i have worked in many good and a few bad ones before) and there are always a few horror stories,a few documented and based on real events and plenty based on hear say .I think before anyone should even CONSIDER boycotting any hospital, the decision to do so should be based on the overall track record of the hospital and real verifiable facts(that being something a lawyer could prove).Does anyone really have that information with regard to Bangkok pattaya Hospital??? sorry should be in the new thread.

  7. I found bangkok pattaya hospital good and professional and at least they employ english speaking/trained staff to back up the thais.I have been to quite a few different hospitals in thailand and used to work in the nhs and private sector. When you work on the inside in the hospital system you see all the screw ups and you would be AMAZED what happens and the public never get to hear about it(i stopped a surgeon from removing the wrong ear when i was a student).I would not recommend pattaya memorial, they let my ex girlfriend die because her family had no money(unfortunately i was out the country)....private medicine. In the end of the day you have to pick the lesser of evils...no hospital is perfect. At least in the uk they rate each hospital according to performance. No such luxury here.

  8. Iam sure Bina will sort you out with some good info.he has a lot of experience on this subject. However i have been doing quite a lot of research specifically on goats in thailand and i found the most usefull and practical stuff on thai websites (in thai)my thai wife found them including feed requirements and diet supplements. Also found how to construct a goat house in thailand,a kind of wooden 2 level construction. The problem with the european web sites is that they often recommend feed stuff that do not grow in thailand.Anyway the locals have goats near me and they basically graze on scrub land...this they prefer to pasture land. Moreover they can be destructive and strip the bark of young trees. If you want to keep them on your land and not wander round on public land like most thais do fencing is an issue....barbed wire is out i read somewhere as they can injure themselves. The thai web link was www.did.go.th/service/goat/goatyset.html .

  9. Fish feed prices are the most important thing to getting it right.I have found 20kg fish feed at 260 baht a bag(thai prices at the local shop in sukothai)specifically suited for small fish.As iam starting to grow taptim fish..much bigger than catfish..this is the feed the shop owner recommended. Why is everyone quoting higher prices for feed???

  10. On the subject of fish tanks(cement or earth ponds) a thai relative told me cement tanks have to be finished/treated some how otherwise you you end up with a significant number of dead fish in your tank.Anyone heard of this????Failing this, what is the accepted way to build a cement tank?Anyone have a link or plan that is usefull?

  11. Your feedback is much appreciated.I too feel that doing a bit of low key work on my wifes land upcountry should hardly attract much attention. However a cautionary tale,i know of one falang who partly owned a resort in ko chang(the other partner had the work permit not him) who was painting a bugalow when immigration came visiting, they noticed he looked like he had just been painting,so to entrap him they suggested a better way to paint....try it this way he said..as soon as the falang picked up the brush they had him(B30,000 fine...no receipt).Anyway this sort of thing usually happens in tourist areas. The important distinction is WHEN DOES GARDENING BECOME FARMING....AND IS ONE COW A PET AND TWO COWS A BUSINESS????

  12. First i would like to say what a great idear this forum is.I don`t want to pour cold water on a great idear but iam sure that any farming or forestry activities are not allowed for falangs(i hope not)what is the law regarding this, say your wife owns the land and her family work on it,can the falang husband work as well without being done by immigration????

  13. I came through Bangkok airport 2 days ago sailed through customs, met the wife near the terminal 2 taxi touts only to be jumped by 2 customs men, they politely asked me to open my suitcase....WHY...the customs man says because we think you may be trying to smuggle extra cigarettes into Thailand. To which i replied I WOULD NOT DO THAT OFFICER COS THEY ARE CHEAPER HERE.Anyway they soon got bored as i was so knackered i forgot the combination to my case.Is this part of the crack down you are describing?....and do their actions make any sense or am i still jet lagged ????
