  1. Mr. Pairoj said about 300,000 of those 24 million people, 200,000 of them sex workers and the rest, taxi and motorcycle taxi drivers, have expressed interest in joining the program.

So only BG's and taxi drivers will pay. Sounds like a sex tax.

300,000 is only 1.25% of 24 million. That means they will surely have enough funds each month to fund the system 0.0125 x 100 baht = 1.25 baht / month.

They must have gotten an old copy of the states social security plan.

  2. Just a few countries from Miss World.

    Germany

No girl in Thailand could match this German babe.

I would bone her in a NY minute... no charge

Looks like there may be a Thai broad in the background with some flowers on her head.

  3. A friend is travelling to the USA in the near future and has just realised he will need to get a visa due to a criminal conviction for a minor offence over 25yrs ago

The problem is that there are no appointments at the London Embassy until after the departure date, obviously this is a big worry and may have to cancel if something cannot be done.

Anyone have any experience with this problem..?

    totster

IMO you will not have any more trouble entering The US than any other country unless the crime was commited in The states.

No way US has records of run of the mill crimes from other countries, they are to disorganized for that. The info would have to be put in the travel record by the home country.

Freedom for criminals is what The States is all about.

  4. Fight At Nai Yang Beach, Thai husband and wife die

^^ looks to be the full title of the thread ...

You are wrong. The title of the post was : Fight At Nai Yang Beach

the content of his post was : Thai husband and wife die

So taking his advise, ie <try reading the title of the thread> (sarcastic twit) actually means ,read this - Fight at Nai Yang beach. Which of course gives no indication of the race of the victims. That info (which I missed was in the body of his post, and not the title of the post.

. Go back and look again, you'll get there in the end

    maybe change title: stupidity thread

  5. - The country was saved largely by strong growth in repeat visitors (+17.24% to 4,975,258). In addition to those leisure travellers who are familiar with Thailand and keep coming back, there was strong growth in convention delegates (+397% to 433,409). Business travellers totalled 711,091, a statistically stagnant 'growth' of 0.14% over January-September 2004.

    Bangkok Post

Wonder who these leisure travelers are? How many times can you visit a wat?

  6. My husband and I are in the process of buying an apartment at Sabai Thani (new development on the headland between Big Buddha and Fisherman's Village). We thought we had done everything properly and engaged our own lawyers, Kitt & Murray, to double-check the land title and our purchase agreement with the developers Sabai Properties. Progress on site has ground to a halt since last year and the developers have now admitted that there is no way they will meet the agreed completion date of June 2006, but are unwilling to give any idea as to when the apartment might be ready. OK, I thought, time to get back to the lawyers to discuss the penalty clauses in the purchase agreement for failure to meet the completion deadline. But to my horror I have discovered that Kitt & Murray no longer exist! The people we thought were representing our interests in Thailand have just disappeared, without even the professional courtesy of letting us know that they have discontinued operation.

Does anyone have any inside track on either Sabai Properties or Kitt & Murray? I would love to hear from other Sabai Thani purchasers who may be in the same situation. And has anyone driven past the site recently who could perhaps tell me if there is any work at all in progress? It is so frustrating to be here in Europe with no communication whatsoever from the developers, and no lawyer to turn to either.

    Many thanks in advance.

Buying is not a good idea in Thailand.

If they are farangs you may be able to sue in your or their home country and get a (default) judgement, especially if you transfered money from overseas.

  7. Todays men appreciate woman for more than just sex and cooking but appreciate her work ability to contriute outside the house as well.

Desirable men should have a good healthy respect for a woman who works.

  8. Gary, I'm not trying to judge you at all. One year may be all right, although I as well as others would strongly advise against it when our opinions are sought. I am merely trying to tell you that unknowing comparisons between the east and west are way off target. That is because we are judging them against what we know as familiar norms, without really understanding their norms.

If you are upset with what you see in the United States, then you will be horrified when you learn about widespread norms here. And also, I believe you are a troll, albeit a useful one, if you are coming to this forum to tell us that you are moving two *pubescent daughters to Samui. There is no way an informed person in their right mind can say that without being a troll.

    Kat habla jing jing

  9. These parents you speak of who genuinely remove their children from international schools the caliber of ISB, Patana, Ruamrudee or NIST for these reasons sound quite insecure in their own ability to turn out their children properly.

What you think they sound like, is irrelevant as parents they (and we) make decisions on what is best for their/our children.

But let us not loose sight of my contention, it is not that Thailand cannot provide a good life for young people, rather the life options Thailand offers young foreign children are limited compared to those that they would enjoy at home.

BINGO - GUESTHOUSE IS SPOT ON

It is the better quality of life in Farangland and preparation for future opportunities relative to the possibilities in Thailand which cannot be denied. The Thai experience will add little to the childs future relative to another choice especially with foreign language opportunities ... Japan, China, or possibly a Spanish speaking country.

Ofcourse if you are primarily interested in driving a Tuk-Tuk Thailand is the country of choice.

  10. I have two daughters 12 and 13 their mother passed away last year. We do not speak Thai (except the polite stuff- hello, thank you ,how much ect...) we visited Thailand for a month in Jan/feb.06 and fell in love with it.We are returning to Thailand in July this year for another month to explore and see if it's a place we really want to live.

We would like to stay at least a year in Thailand, maybe in Phuket or Ko Samui where we have friends living now(though they don't have children).I have an income from the U.S that would allow us to live there comfortably. My girl's go to public school here in Seattle but would be up to going to privet or public school in Thailand.

After visiting Thailand I could not stop thinking that it may be a much better place to raise my girls for a while, after experiencing the Thai's appreciation for the family and elders, their open hearts and love for their country and King. Not to mention there's not multiple murders and extreme crimes happening EVERY NIGHT and generally very little respect for family and elders like there is here. .

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated :o

Better hold off until the girls are off to college. As I speak Thai and live in thailand I will give a few unbiased comments.

    1. Your view of Thailand is a tourist view and not realistic.

    2. Thais have very little family values.

    3. Samui is one of the most lawless places in Thailand.

    4. Generally tourist areas are not family oriented. As you need a school, you have only tourist (farang) areas to choose from.

    5. Why are you really interested in Thailand? Is it honestly not for the available lovelies? What will your daughters think of their old man with a 20 year old?

    6. Any friends / associates you have in Thailand will all be farang. You will have no Thai friends. Most of the farangs will be of the sex tourist ilk... not wholesome

    Basically, the idea is crazy.

  11. Theres a few technical resistance points on the way but the coming doillar crisis will wipe those clean off the charts..

Sure gold had (according to media) a massive sell off.. Er it went back to the price it was last week !!! Already it seemed to find buyers on the dips and has recovered overnight to plus 700 again.. 15% + on the month !!

Personally I am moving another 1/4 mil US into gold / silver stocks this week..

    convert to dollars first

  12. I used to live in San Francisco for ten years.

Many Americans say San Francisco is not the USA, it is left wing, it is European scale, it is over 50 percent Chinese ... etc., etc. And also Miami, which is considered a Latin American city in South America, and Anglo USAers also say Miami isn't the USA. People even say this about New York City (where in Manhattan most residents don't own cars, now that is weird).

    Of course, they are wrong.

I think these kinds of cities are happening spots, and I think Pattaya is on the verge of becoming a much more happening spot. And the last time I looked, it appears on the map of the Kingdom of Thailand.

I enjoy Pattaya but I am under no illusion that it is a DUMP especially the trashy people. Does not compare in the least to NY or Miami, maybe Jurez or some other place with a zillion whores. Pattaya is not on the verge of becoming anything except maybe a bigger dump.
