  1. Provided you get an entry visa into Thailand from the Thai consulate or embassy in Sth Africa, all will be forgiven.

You have paid the penalty and provided your funds and paper work is in order, you will be almost welcomed.

You nhave a child here, it will not be a problem if you have the right documents that Thai embassy can advise you on.

    Good luck

Provided your multi-entry Non-imm O is still valid (check the date on the sticker), you and your wife can visit Laos easily. You will require photos and $35 USD. If you don't have photos, I believe you can pay extra at the border to obtain them. If you don't have $35 USD (cost dependent on nationality), you can pay in Baht at a bad exchange rate. You will receive permission to stay in Laos for 30 days but you can turn around immediately if you wish (see below).

There is absolutely no need to spend 24 hours out of Thailand. This is an urban myth. Do not believe anybody who tells you. On your return to Thailand you will receive a further 90 days permission to stay.

I am assuming you have informed us correctly and you are not on extensions of permission to stay issued by your local immigration office. If so, ignore the above advice.

    Thank you.

This will be my first border run. On a 12 month non O visa issued nearly 2 months ago based on marriage.

AlI my documents are in order including TB405,000 in a fixed bank a/c. (Home book, marriage certificate and a multitude of other documents)

I must leave Thailand on the 22 Jan 19. Should I leave a day earlier in case there is a delay, the penalties for being overstay scares me?

The urban myth of needing to stay out of country was told to me by Prachinburi Immigration not one week ago.

I had mentioned Cambodia to them, maybe there are different rules for Cambodia?

You may understand why I am nervous, many posts conflict.

Thanks in advance, and cheers. (I am an opinionated Aussie if you have not already gathered that)

I use this for in and out's,with several ways to go about it! You could hire a taxi from the NP airport to the Friendship bridge and have the taxi wait on the Thai side, while you hop through border paper work(1+ hour).

You could also do the taxi to the NP bus station. There are buses that run every hour to the Friendship bridge and back!

If you rent a car ,go to the Friendship bridge.Park on the Thai side and do your border hop

May I also ask a really dumb question. I live about 50 km from Sa Kaeo.

I have never done a border run. The Cambodian option seems problematic with all the hassles I have read about.

My Thai wife wants to go to Laos. We can catch a coach close to the border. We book into a hotel.

Next morning go to to Friendship Bridge early.

Wife has a Thai passport, I have no visa.

I would like to spend a week in Vientienne.

Please advise on what I must do and I will never make a bad reply to one of your posts ever again. lol.

I hope you can advise me. Cheers( PS. All my Thai immigration papers are in order, it is Laos and Cambodia that I have no experience with)

I understand that I must spend at least one day (24 hours) out of Thailand to comply with my Non O multiple entry Thai visa.

I carry my Passport, Thai Car/Motorcycle Drivers License's, and my Pink Card with me wherever I go, so not too worried. I am guessing I am more legal, especially on the road, or while travelling, then most Thai's, let alone other Farang's. I use a BellRoy Passport sleeve/wallet, it keeps everything together, and I wear Prana, or North Face convertible pants all the time, so everything is securely in a hard to steal from pocket.

What you say is very good advice. Just don't get compacent is my tiny piece of advice.

The reporting immediately after returning from abroad is not the 90 day report, it is something called a TM30 which is notification of your address, but not notification of staying more than 90 days. (I know, the 90 day also includes address so it seems repetitive, but there you have it).

The TM30 is actually supposed to be completed by the "housemaster" of your residence, it is a homeowner/landlord notification to immigration that an alien is staying at their residence. Hotels and the like all do this, private homes should also do so but for years did not. Some IOs have begun to enforce this and to do so by leaning on not the house owner but rather on the alien, levying fines at the time of extension of stay if the reporting was not done.

However this is not all IOs, just some. Bangkok Imm does not require reporting from private individuals, only businesses. Elsewhere in the country it is a hodegpodge. Some do not require it. Some require it just once when you first move in somewhere and again only if you move. Some require that it be resubmited everytime you have left the country and returned, even though to the same place. And a few require it if you were away from home even for 1 night within Thailand.

You need to find out from your Imm Office what they require as regards the TM30.

I have been told emphatically that I must report within 24 hours of my return to Prachinburi immigration office. A form, listing penalties of forced departure from the country is given to me everytime.

Nothing is fixed in all places in Thailand, provincial rights often seem to override national rights.

I need to roll with the flow or face a severe penalty if I do not.

There are many Cambodians in this province and that may have something to do with it. I have not seen graft at the immigration office, just strict adherance to the law as They see it.

I think this post shows up the vast variances in Thai law on visa compliance and border control. It would be good to have a common law. But maybe provincial offices will reject that. Thanks Sheryl for your post but like most of the Thai law and rules, it is ambiguous.

By the way, they needed both my wife and I to fill in the TM30 form, along with every other photo copy of all my documents that I provide everytime. And the documents of my wife. They must have a huge filing system.

If you get a one year extension of stay at immigration you do not need to leave the country unless you want to. You just do reports of staying longer than 90 consecutive days in the country to immigration.

You can apply for the extension during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries from your non-o visa

For entry to Laos and Cambodia you will get a visa on arrival. For Myanmar you pay 500 baht for a border pass.

Thank you so much. I cannot ever repay your good advice except to say many thanks.

  7. That is the best info I have received so far.

So I deposit 400,000 into my Thai bank account. I am prepared to keep it there.

I can always re apply to stay with my wife for a further 12 months at my local immigration office (Prachinburi) provided I exit the country every 90 days. Wthout returning to reapply at Australia after 12 months?

I understand that I need a visa to visit Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar. Can this be obtained at the border?  Or do I need to visit their embassy in Bangkok. How long do I have to stay there in their countries before returning.

Sorry mate a lot of questions and no way to thank you.

Do I need more than a passport to enter these countries without having a visa beforehand.

I am considering flying to Singapore but this seems an expensive option.  Cheers mate

What type of visa/permit to stay do you have now?

Thank you. I have a marriage non o visa. Must have 400,000 in the bank. The consulate in Perth West Aust said this must be kept in Aust. Prachinburi Immigration wants it to be in Thailand. I try to live with my wife in Kabinburi. I am 66 and "getting on" if you know what I mean. Known my wife for 8 years and supported wife and children in that time.

I just moved a off post about OA visa entries to a more appropriate topic. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/855905-non-immigrant-oa-confused-about-dates-and-extention/

Please. I am a newbie. I live in Kabinburi and live near Sa Kaeo near the Cambodia border. ( The locals call it Kampuchea) I need to make a border run around 20 Jan 19. Would you please provide everything I must do, both going to Cambodia and the documents I need on departure and return. I am Aussie and want to take my Thai wife. Thai immigration at Prachinburi has not been helpful, in fact resentful. Any help please.
