"The bus had collided with the rear of a white Hino 18-wheeler."

Truck not shown in any photos. Released and allowed to leave without comment? No mention of the truck driver. Appears the police investigation is focused solely on the bus driver and passengers that would imply bus driver potentially at fault.

How you not see a 18 wheeler? Think taking a bus in Thailand is like sky diving without a parachute.😀

  2. The guy wrong on all accounts, but the foreigners are singled out here in Chiang Mai also when tourist season is busy. They always set them up in same few places.

The problem is no police enforcement of rules at point of hire.

No body should be able to rent a motorcycle if they haven't the correct license needed.  A photocopy of the License should be on reverse side of the rental agreement  which states conditions of helmet requirement in various languages on one page.

After that if a stupid tourist want brain injury and fine, problem belong them.

I ride a motorbike here and have been pulled up in town with helmet on few times at tea money stops.

Been asked to show my  license, I Showed my Australia license  to see what happens, big smile we want 1000bht, I say sorry I show you wrong one and pull out one  Thai license that kills a smile.😀

Had the Highway Police been on the Highway this might not have happened.  Just back from a 350 kms round trip to Bangkok.  As always maniacs at over 150 kph abound weaving in and out of lanes.  Guess how many cops I saw in four hours of driving?

Tip; it was less than 1.

Police presence in some countries helps. I kind of like driving in Thailand, no police so no fines.

In Australia if you don't stick close to speed limit it is only a matter of time for a big fine,

Police presence helps Australia has approximately4.3 deaths per 100,000, while this almost double the Uk still better than 32 per 100000 in Thailand.

Guess the brakes work better also. 😃

not sure any restaurant can claim food is "allergen-free" because people can be allergic to just about anything.

if someone has a specific allergy, isn't it their responsibility to be cautious?

Agree, if I had a food allergy which was  life threatening extra caution would be important.

I would not trust what anyone told me about purchased meals.

Best idea is buy your own products and prepare yourself.

RIP lady and condolences to husband and family.

There was no brake failure for sure... The bus have stopped several times already with no problems, only when there is an accident it is brake failure, maybe because they are speeding and think that when they stop suddenly they stand still right away. Never heard of braking distance. or people are too tired and react different than when they had enough rest and sleep. Anyway RIP to the deceased and good recovery for the injured. It is always a roulette to drive with a person you hired

Yep blame anything except the person responsible.
