You can prune mango trees quite hard and they'll still fruit the following year. Do it once they've fruited.
We've terrible soil and mangoes grow well.....unlike some types of citrus (Ken).
Yea my wife did a huge cut back on our mango trees after fruiting 2 years ago and they are now better than ever. After this fruit I'll cut again.

Curious to know which province you live (and plant). My friend who lives near khon kaen says his dirt is terrible and his water even worse lol best thing he can grow is bananas ! The land here in Lamphun province is blessed with good soil and clear water ( though our bore IS 70 meters deep ) Now if we can only get rid of the pollution in Feb and March ! BTW: the size of the rootstock in your photo would sell for 20 to 30 baht around here. They have some smaller and even cheaper.
I'm in Kalasin. Go 2km left and it's all sticky rice land, 300m right and your at the side of the big lam pau dam where they have nice black soil and grow lots of veggies. Our soil seems good anything seems to grow (apart from the trees Grollies is talking about:):):).

Hi rumak, yes I was thinking the same about varieties for different parts of Thailand as rootstock, the one I got recommended is for Isaan.
Those trees in the photo are not grafted yet they are photos of the rootstock I can get.
As for varieties and what's popular I have no idea yet as I'm mainly concentrating on citrus trees at the moment. I'm doing 50 mango from my best tree as a trial run then I'll move on to mango,Avocado and other trees soon.

So as you describe it mango trees are grafted on the branches, right?
I can remember that at home apple trees for example are stem grafted. So that doesn't apply here I'll guess?
No they should be grafted onto the stem.

Hi.. yes after checking same as I said before.
Rootstock for mango is Khaew Kamin. Rootstock is available.
I can't upload photos for some reason and my laptop is down. I sent photos of the trees on to Grollies maybe he can send them on. They are ready to graft.

Hi.. I think mango trees are grafted onto a rootstock that keeps them smaller at least all of my mango trees have.
I'm the same have one tree that has way better fruit than the others so lm grafting from that in June.
Let me find out more about this rootstock that helps keep the tree smaller to be sure as it was the wife that mentioned it.
I've asked around today and I can get the rootstock for 18 baht each if your interested I'll take 50 myself and 200 for the owl:). If anyone else wants some and I can get up to 500 trees I can get the price down.
Grafting seems easy just graft the end of a branch around 8 to 10 inch and place the whole tree into a big bag for a month... water the rootstock a day before grafting... the soil doesn't want to be too wet. For grafting large numbers make yourself a small plastic tunnel and put all grafted trees into that again for a month.

Yes I have 4 lemon varieties... only 2 have fruited... already grafted onto pomelo but I wouldn't advise buying them from me.
I have a new source for more lemon and orange cuttings and will be grafting up onto troyer and other rootstocks in June. So good I'll have good size trees available around December time.

I am totally shocked by some people's comments on this thread that they expected the Prayut to take a huge beating in this election... I knew, my wife's family knew, in fact the whole village knew including the soi dogs.... it was obvious years ago what was going to happen.
As for posters saying he is hated by everyone in the country you are wrong... he is not. All the older people here and in surrounding villages voted for him because they like him.
By the way my family voted FF.
Next coup in June!

Hi.. I'll go back to grollies first post... first of all are you sure it's citrus greening? Most citrus here is grafted onto pomelo and is not compatible with most citrus trees, also found that layered lemons and other citrus don't do too well... I'm putting trees onto Troyer, Volka and hoping to try some swingle citrumello soon... the difference on troyer compared to pomelo is huge. Probably because it's a recommended rootstock... I'll update on the others.
Sprays... I spray with a molasses and em based mix adding neem and seaweed extract after activating the em for just 24 hours.... been using this spray method for a while and found it very effective...
Once again lime lemon or orange on pomelo... forget it same as layered citrus in Thailand.

Another option is a tetra species called silver dollar... they eat everything green but could destroy all your plants.

If your pond is in full sun then try some water Lilly or other plants that float on the surface and have 60 to 80 percent of the water surface covered.... for that stringy algie in the pond add some small tilapia they should munch it up quickly... take that guys offer up of his plecks or buy some more for your pond.

I will try explain things for you people that do not seem to understand. every country in the world is controlled by the elites and that's how it is. Thailand is going to be controlled by the elites long after I die so most of you lot are screwed.....
Go outside and tie yellow ribbons around everything you have and accept it because that's the way it is and that's the way it is going to be for a very long time.

The country is more under control than it has ever been in the last 20 years - yet your life has not changed one little bit over the last 13 years! Right ho, quite remarkable then,
We'll leave to one side your somewhat ambitious claim that it will remain under control for the next 20 years - such pronouncements rarely end well!
Yes that's what I said this country is more under control than it has been in the last 20 years....... Do you understand that?
My life has not changed in 13 years of living here. Do you understand that?
Now can I ask a question? are you over 60? Old dog and new tricks and all that!!!
Once again if you don't like it go home you silly old man!
