I find it very disappointing, and somewhat unusual that Farang are ineligable to recieve mortgages in Thailand. I do not understand why anyone in their right mind would pay 200K USD for a Condo in cash! Dont you guys realize how bad this is for the buyer?

So does anyone have any advice on to go about securing a loan from overseas(I am an Ameican posting on my friend's account)?

Will I be able to applying for a 1 year marriage visa soon, and I am curious if I will be able to travel freely out of Thailand then return to LOS as I please. Are there any limits on the amount of time I can spend outside of Thailand?

I do not have any thai friends. Not to be crude, but I would like to date several thai women at once, so getting an introduction everytime will be hard.

1. What are the best places to meet thai women?

If I go the doctor, the store, or anywhere inwhich I can easily talk to a girl, I am probably 95%+ at getting her phone number. It is very easy this way. However, if I try to approach a thai girl waiting for the BTS, she looks at me like I am crazy. Sometimes she will not even respond to me and look in other direction. For the record, I am 25 year old farang, thin. I usually wear a collar t-shirt and a pair of khacki shorts. I try to walk up to Thai girls in a shopping mall, but they are so shy. Some will smile but will not really talk with you. Others will look away entirely.

My thai language is very weak. I know I need to work on this. To be honest, sometimes I think that the best approach would be to pay a Thai person to be your assistant and introduce you to the girl. LOL.

Things are so much different here than in the West where a man has to show he has big balls to get a girl. Here, it seems to be the total opposite.

What if I wrote down on a piece of paper in thai that I think she is pretty and would like to go out with her? Is that too lame, or right up her lane?

in all honesty, notstickmans recent submissions really beat the living hel_l out of stickman. i have no prob w/ stickman. he provides a free, somewhat entertaining site, but as for content and quality he basically stinks the place up. hail the nazifacation of nonstickman.

I investiaged tonight and I could provide Gault w/ some very important info about Stick, but im not gonna do it, because i dont think stick has really done anything wrong. he may be a ######ing clown, but that is about the extent of it.

One thing about Stickman, is that If I ran his site, I could make atleast 100,000 USD/year.

He claims to spend 40 hrs/week working on the site like a clown.

It is a very good example of the difference between someone who knows how to make money/run a business, and someone who does not.

I have a California Gym Membership which cost me about 20K baht for 2 years (I think this is a pretty good deal).. but unforchanatly it does not come with a swimming pool.

I am also trying to learn Thai language. I am not taking a class though. This is just on my own.

Outside of this, I use the internet, go out to eat, and watch movies. I am in a long term relationship, so chasing girls is out of the picture.

this is pretty interesting. so you have a 22 years old thai boy and thai girl. does he give her part of his paycheck each week from which she spends money and pays for their expenses entertainment? assume that they are not living together?

Perhaps the reason can be found in my experience of today.

I went to the bank with my wife this morning to draw a wad of cash (all the real spending here in Italy is cash).

Signed on the line, watched the teller count the money and then promptly hand it to my wife.

It least he saved having to do the handover myself.

My girl is a university student. We have gone out to eat numberous times with a variety of her friends, who are all 20-30 years old. Often it will be us and another couple. I would estimate it at around 20 double dates. Of these, there was only one time when the female did not pay for her boyfriend.

Today, I was sitting in BBQ Plaza and I decided to sit right by the cashier so I could observe. I watched 5 couples come and go under 30, and in every scenerio, the girl took the check and took all of the money out of her purse.

Has anyone here ever posted what is the best way to learn to read and write thai from the beginning.

I have started with a book for Thai children that allows me to draw all of the Thai Cononsents.

My girl has told me how to say each one and I have memorized that also.

However, it seems to me that I am just memorizing what the symbol looks like... This would be the same as a Thai person who knew that Pig meant Moo, but he doesnt actually know how to sound out Pig phonetically.

So, how do I learn how to actually read Thai language? Are there any good books for this? Also, I am finding it nearly impossible to get all of the sounds correct. I am pretty fustrated and if I become fluent in Thai I would consider this more impressive than my Law Degree!

I fly from Bangkok to NYC. I pick up my luggage in NYC. I then check my luggage again on the next flight to Chicago.

When I fly back to NYC from Chicago, am I supposed to pick up my luggage inside of the airport again? Am I supposed to tell them that my Chicago-NYC is a transit flight?

You can check it through to the final destination. Your ticket will reflect the transit. It is only when entering the USA that you have to clear customs at the point of first entry.

How will the domestic airline know that i have a connecting flight on different airline?

I think you can only check it through to destination where all the legs are with the same airline (or ones that work together, like code sharing). If not you have to collect baggage and go to check in again.

Absolutely wrong.

Airlines have been interlining baggage (the standard term for the practice) since Charles Lindbergh flew for them (well, more or less). You check in your bags at your point of origin and they are tagged all the way to your destination. When you get to your destination, if you are lucky, they will even arrive with you.

Too many people on this board, in my view, are very quick to answer poster's questions when they have no idea what they are talking about. Actually knowing something is generally seen by most people as a prerequisite for giving advice to others.

How do will they know that i have a connecting flight? i tell them at check in?
