Intoxicated tourist detained after Pattaya restaurant altercation
Expat Tom replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Every time I hear crap like this I pray that he isn't an American. -
Much of my career was spent as a transportation safety consultant. My specialty was high way safety analysis and accident analysis. Thailand may not have the most dangerous traffic situation in the world but it is certainly one of the worse. Basically there are three root causes for traffic accidents: 1) Poor engineering, design and construction to include signage. 2) Poor driver education and licensing 3) Poor law enforcement. In 99% of accidents one or a combination of these causes are involved. You are in danger just crossing the street in a designated cross walk and there are very very few stop or yield signs. If there were stop signs the Thais would just ignore them. If you live here, look around and form your own opinion.

Part of the local color? At least it isn't a drunken farang trying to sucker punch another farang. -
Thailand’s Bold Move: Decriminalising Sex Work Sparks National Debate
Expat Tom replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
REALLY!!!! Wow! I have live here for 15 years , I thought that it was always legal! Can I ask for a refund for 15 years of bar fines and money given to ladies because of their sick buffalo in Isan? -
Bank of Thailand Intervenes to Manage Baht's Exchange Rate
Expat Tom replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This country is run by inept stupid people. I have live here a long time it is nearing my time to go. I am 90% sure that I will be here for New Years 2025 and 99% sure that will be my last New Years in Thailand. -
If there is ever a war I would not want Thailand as an ally. They would either accidently shoot themselves in the foot an become a liability or even worse, shoot you accidently in the back. I have owned two condos there in the past. I would never buy property here again. The country is inherently too unstable and run by a cabal of people in BBK with questionable intelligence.

Thai police shut down 21 villas on Koh Samui, foreigners evicted
Expat Tom replied to snoop1130's topic in Koh Samui News
Open and shut case to me. It would be interesting to know how the enveloper was....Thai?....Chinese? ....Where did he money come from. Anyone want to make a small wager that if the Chinese were the principals they were likely the funders... AH! How the Bangkok Buffoons love the Chinese. -
Foreign Tourists Caught in Intimate Acts on Tuk-Tuk During Traffic Jam
Expat Tom replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
The nationality of the foreigner was not given but with the HUGE percentage of Russian there the odds are....??? I lived in Phuket 10 years ago. I will not visit Russia, Ukraine or Phuket today. (Interesting side note; Check out transparency.org / world corruption index. Ukraine ranks 104th, Russia ranks 141st and Thailand ranks 108th out of 180 countries.) don't kill the messenger. https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi/2023 -
Cutting the head off would be a good start. The snake might stop if its head is dethatched from it body. I likely would have not escaped into the swamp with its head gone. DUH! And please spare me, if an animal comes out of a swamy to attach a human it should never have the opportunity to do so again...ever. Kill the damn thing!

Violent Brawl Between Drunk Australian Tourists Shocks Pattaya
Expat Tom replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
The Thai police are just too polite and reserved. The USA is not a model for behavior and decorum. That, among a long list of other reasons, is why I don't live there. However, the police there would have Tased these two drunk <deleted> and got them off the street and into the lockup after they refused lawful orders to stop in a few short minutes. . By the next day they should have been on the plane back to the land of kangaroos and forbidden from returning the the land of smiles for ever. -
I'm done with Thailand. I have been here for 15 years. According to "transparency.org" Thailand ranks 101 on the world corruption index. This country has millions of wonder people but it is run by idiots. It is s kleptocracy. This stupid move will bite the Bangkok Buffoons in the butt. If the leaders here fail to realize that the are competing for expat dollars and that there are MANY MANY other options around the world then they are truly naive. How to they propose that they discover my overseas income...???? Truly ignorant.

As a former corporate recruiter (head headhunter) we had develop RIL (Reason For Leaving, other than money, to entice a candidate to leave a job to work for our client. I have lived in Thailand for a long time and love my time here but my "RFL" list grown daily. Thailand is truly a wonderful country run by idiots. I high speed railway to China? Just what Thailand needs, a quicker way for hoards from the North in invade and bring gifts with them like Covid-20. It is not a conspiracy theory. It is a FACT that the first case of Covid 19 outside of China reported outside of China was a Thai taxi driver that carried some Chinese guests from the airport to their hotel in Bangkok. Thailand doesn't need a high speed rail link to China. Thailand need to build a wall on its Northern boarder. My "RFL" list grows as I work on my exit plan.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra Elected as Thailand's 31st Prime Minister

Thailand Has Global Ambition to Become Tech Talent Hub by 2030
Expat Tom replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
With the pathetic English skills of Thailand as a whole, this is laughable at best! The Former PM, the ignorant General who led a coup against the government, made a speech in which he said that one day the Thai language would become one of the most spoken languages in the world. The reason the English IS the world's language was because of English colonization. Will Thailand colonize the world? Ignorance abounds. I am a retired ESL teacher and was the head of the ESL program in one of Thailand's major universities with 12 NATIVE ENGLISH speakers working under me. I could write a book on the subject of Thai education in general and English in particular but please draw your own conclusions. -
Visa-free entry for Chinese nationals has many consequences
Expat Tom replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You will reap what you sow. The first case of Covid 19 reported outside of China was a Thai Taxi driver who took a Chinese tourist from the airport to their Bangkok hotel....FACT NOT A Conspiracy theory. Why was it call Covid 19? Because there were 18 Covid infections before Covid 19 ...DUH! Where did these Covid infections originate? Do your own research. What other presents will Chinese tourists visit upon the Thai population. The Big Wig Bangkok Fat Cats will make money and that is ALL they care about. -
Government to Crack Down on Low-Quality Chinese Imports
Expat Tom replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This seems totally unbelievable! I was under the impression that Thailand was a client state of the CCP? The "Big Money" crooks in Bangkok are bought and paid for by Chinese. Why else would they allow "Zero Dollar" Chinese tourists to pay for their entire Thai holiday in China. Follow the money!!!! Thailand is a great country with wonderful people but the leaders do the country a disservice daily. -
Move Forward Party dissolved, leaders banned for 10 years - video
Expat Tom replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thailand is NOT a democracy....period. It is run by a cabal. By having such a pathetic educational system they keep that masses ignorant. Thailand will never be a modern country until it has major reforms. But, as an expat, it is not my concern. I came here by airplane many years ago and, as each day passes, I get closer to boarding the plane again. I am completely free but the average Thai is trapped. No sweat for me. I feel for the Thai people -
You can't solve the problem by closing down Soi 6 or any of the other rat holes here. The thugs will just show up someplace else. I have been here for longer than 10 years. I am now working on my exit plan.....it is officially a sh#t hole with the three major tourism groups being, Russians, Chinese and Indians. Why do they all come to Thailand? Simple, the other countries don't want them

Pattaya cops stop brawl between Kuwaiti tourists & Thai bikers
Expat Tom replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I'll put my money on the Thai boys. I hope they teach the the spoiled rich little brats a good lesson. Thailand is a wonderful country but the brain trust persists in courting tourists from some of the most low life countries on the planet...Russia, China, the Middle East.....anything for a dollar. Do you ever wonder why Thailand is over run with tourists from these countries that rank so low on the world corruption index? Simple answer......Other countries don't want them....- 87 replies

Thai Language Seen as Vital National Symbol, Survey Shows
Expat Tom replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Having been a teacher in Thailand with time spent working in a major Thai University, I can attest that poor education is among the reasons for the huge disparity between the upper tier Asian nations; Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Singapore and the bottom tier, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. The Bangkok elites fear the masses might become too educated.- 67 replies

Thai Man Arrested Over Alleged Rape of Ukrainian Woman on Koh Samui
Expat Tom replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
She is a nasty farang so she must be at fault. Get real! How will the government spin this to mitigate international outrage?
