  1. I thought urban myth untiil wife told me about it for sure in her village. One kid was nabbed two weeks ago and since old people have been gone after. Everyone seems to know about it up country (buri ram) Kids are so scared they are not going anywhere alone even on big buses to and from Bkk in the holidays period.

  2. If regulations remain as they are you could stay in Thailand on a Multi Entry Non Imm O visa (based on the fact you have a Thai wife) for 15 months and return to UK to get another for another 15 months until your savings or income is sufficient to get an extension for 1 year. You would just have to do a visa run every 3 months to a neighbouring country which can be fun.

Thanks for the advice, I asked the wife and she said look on thai visa! It turns out I would be entitled to work pension now only about 20.000 a month but comes with a lump sum so would have enough for thai bank deposit. Not sure I understand the the 15 months, would this be getting a non immigrant O visa here for 90 days with three re entries then doing three border runs for 90 days each before the visa runs out. Would I have to stay in UK for a while before applying for another three month 3 entry visa? Thanks again

  3. I have planned to move to bkk several years from now but sudden redundancy brings it foward to the next three months. I've read through the info here but still cannot solve my own situation.

I am from UK aged 55 but would not qualify for a retirement visa although I could deposit 400,000 in a thai bank

wife is earning but as she is self employed does not keep proper books so we could not use her earnings towards proof of income. My income would only be from savings and income from house if I decide to rent and not sell it. If sell I would have about £120.000 in the bank. It will be another 5 years before pensions kick in.

What is the best way to go about the visa problem. I know I should have more funds but staying over there as long as possible with the mrs would be infinately prefereble to living just as poorly on income support over here. Our joint income per month would be just over 40.000 baht (but could not proove it) until pensions kicked in. I don't need financial warnings, just some visa pointers, thanks

  4. Yes, of course you did. Now go and lie down, it must be time for your nap.

You frequently make these claims of vast legal expertise, yet there are two things that give the lie to them.

    1) You never, ever, cite your sources or even provide links to articles that support your claims.

    2) More importantly, you claim to be a lawyer acting for clients. Yet you freely discuss their cases on an open, public forum! No ethical lawyer would do such a thing.

OK dear GU22 ...since you ALWAYS disbelieve, criticise and make defamatory accusations on this forum even in relation to the simplest and most obvious matters , the actual letters/emails from the Embassy confirming every single word to be true will be published here in return for you getting out from behind your bush and publishing your true name and address and status on this forum.

There is nothing more cowardly than to hide your true identity and continually snipe behind a cloak of anonymity.

Clearly looking back over his posts, although always ready to help (or stick his oar in) Gu22 is an arrogant cyber bully who always attacks anyone who dares to criticise the effeciency or honesty of his much loved Btitish embassy and staff. Why he cannot accept that they are unpredictable, do make mistakes and somtimes treat people as badly as he does remains a mystery.

  5. I had been going to the Dental Hospital on Suk Soi 49 since 1998. Last yesr I tried Asavant because it was a bit cheaper and a Thai recommended it to me. The equipment they used looked state of the art but the dentists were young and inexperienced. I had work done but was not totally satisfied. I changed back to the Dental Hospital and couldn't appreciate them more. Great folks, good system, good English, quality dental care. I think their filling prices are B1200, crown B16,000, root canal B12,000....or close to that.

    rgds

I just tried them but never again, I agreed to one filling which somwhow turned into four over three teeth at the front. Total cost 6900 baht. In the 1.15 hours the woman dentist never said a word and was quite rough. Could have got the work done on the NHS for about the same, and worse of all she did not have time to complete (no polish-come back) horriblle experience

  6. I used 'your opticians' a few times on the ground floor but this week tried the one next door called eye lab express, wish I had stayed with the first one. After collecting from eye lab saw there was a crack in one lens so took them stright back. Was told to come back tomorow even though the whole job had only taken an hour. Went back next day was told come back yet again today as the lens had to be ordered. On going in just now he had not even started and seem to get a lens out of the stock draw, does the job in 10 minutes. Crap service from poor workmanship which we seemed to get punished for -back to yours optical next time, the guy was really rude, but funnily enough they seem all smiles when handing cash over TIT

  7. Never having dental treatment before in Bkk I have no idea which to try. I did email promjaidental clinic on suk 39 but got a reply from perfect smile clinic on silom, on calling promjaidental clinic a recorded message asks to call back after Jan 3rd, this is the 11th. I only need fillings-anyone try asavant clic at thonglor?

  8. I was told by someone who generally knows about such things that they are actually running the images through some relatively sophisticated facial recognition software.

When I responded with natural skepticism that the Thais could do anything that complicated and make it work, I was informed they were actually connecting to an FBI database and that the system had already flushed out a fair number of guys on the lam trying to enter Thailand with phony passports. Although the source is one who ought to be believed, I'm still not sure whether to believe all that or not, but....well, maybe.

sounds like that would take a lot longer than a couple of minutes while you stand at the desk though.

  9. The next time we flew internationally I was behind the camera man and saw both girls brought up from the memory and my husbands name on both of them!

who were the girls and how connected to your husband? I thought they just checked the person handing over the passport was really you

  10. I married a thai lady 18 months ago and we registered at the amphur but did not get married in the UK. Since married she has stayed in Bkk and myself in UK and relocating there shortly. Howevewr things have not worked out between us and I am thinking of asking her for a divorce.

Would she have any financial claims on me when divorced and if not while I am in UK would it make any difference if we divorced while I was living in thailand?

Difficult to answer from a legal point of view without more detail. Have you been providing her with financial support? Have you obtained any assets in UK or Thailand since your marriage? The financial settlement on divorce depends on these questions, and also if she says she will give you a divorce by mutual agreement.

As an aside you cannot legally marry in Thailand and UK, one is sufficient, and probably in your case one too much! :o

No financial support and not gained any assets in UK or thailand since married. She says she would be agreeable but when it comes to it I think she might think differently as she has already mentioned how much another woman we know got when she got divorced, she was married just before us.
