  1. Thank you to all that contributed. Yesterday I received the registered copy from Nakhon Ratchasima Immigration for my rental agreement. Then we went to KBank suggested by my wife's Aunt. My wife's Aunt's daughter knew someone at KBank. 40 minutes later, we had 2 accounts. 1 for my money for my extension of stay and the other in my wife's and my name as house account to work with for sales, payments and groceries, etc. Next step is to register our marriage.

  2. I have read many of topics on this subject but none have given me any luck. I have been to 3 banks so far. 2 in terminal 21 and the main Bangkok Bank by Ya Mo.  At the 2 banks in Terminal 21, I did not get pass the "need work permit". I am on a Non-immigrant O visa with no work permit. At the Bangkok Bank, the worker behind the desk took my passport and entered information in the computer and then refused saying in Thai that I had to go to embassy. I asked for the manager thinking maybe he spoke English. He did speak some English but they got on the phone and called somebody who spoke better English. This person explained that I need to go to the US embassy and have my passport authenticated. I do not understand if my passport with my non immigrant O visa glued inside with the the stamp from immigration at the airport then why does the passport need to be authenticated. I had my new rental agreement in hand. Someone on facebook suggested I go to immigration and get some form that would cost me about 500 baht. My stepson (driver), my wife and I went to immigration. we filled out paperwork and I will go back on Friday and pick up the registration of the house. I don't know if this will help but I am open to any suggestions.

  3. I have read your topic with much interest. I have not transferred any money to Thailand yet but plan to transfer once we are back in Thailand. It appears you transfer money from your Schwab checking account as you paid a fee. Talking to a Schwab representative, if I move the money from my Schwab checking into my Schwab brokerage account and the transfer that amount to Thailand bank, there will be no fee.

  4. I live in the USA now but will be in Thailand shortly.I do invest in the USA market and anything I take out of my account is subject to capital gains except my Roth IRA. But my question to you is if you Had $100,000 in stocks and you made $10,000 as far as Thailand is concerned the $10,000 you take out is principle and the it is replace by the $10,000 profit. You are only required to pay tax once.

  5. I have read this topic with great interest. We are waiting to retire to Thailand. My wife is Thai and I'm am from the USA. I have read many post complaining about life in Thailand. It all depends what you want in life. We want a place where we can retire and live comfortable and not have to work a job. I'm 68 y/o and I'm still working full-time. If I can get to Thailand, I will not complain. Right now flights are impossible and the restrictions to get to Thailand are not the best. I am not looking forward to the number of covid test it will take to get into Thailand as I have had 2 covid test so far.  But I will do it to move to Thailand. Living in Austin, Texas, it is costing us about $4000 a month to live. I know we can live a much better quality of life for less than $4000. I am calculating all the cost of completing the trip (hotel for quarantine, flight and shipment of goods). Thank you for all the good information that has been provided by everyone.

  6.       Covid-19 has put a damper on my retirement plans. I am 67 y/o male married to a Thai woman. We were married in Korat in a Buddhist ceremony. We did not get the marriage registered. My wife entered the USA on a fiancé visa and we were married in Austin 2 weeks later.  She is a USA citizen now with a Thai and USA passport.

My plan was to enter Thailand on a O-Visa and get an extension of stay based on marriage. With covid-19, the only visa available for me is a Visa-OA. With this visa, I will be required to have health insurance. I have health insurance with Medicare and Tricare-for-Life. Tricare-for-Life changes to Tricare Overseas when I live out of the USA.

          Questions:

          1) At age 67, The cost of health insurance for me is not cost effective.  Will I be able to change to extension of stay based on marriage where I will not need the extra insurance.

          2) Are there any flights to Thailand? I have read that flights are being cancelled without notice. If I go and do all of the requirements for the flight and the flight is cancelled then I will have to be retested for cover-19 to be with the 72 hours. Is it 72 hours before flight take off or is it 72 hours when the flight arrives in Thailand.

          3) If the the flight gets cancelled, do I have to go through the visa process again?  I read that a member arrived in Thailand from the Philippines yesterday. Could I possible fly to the Philippines and arrange a one way flight to Bangkok?

Any answer would be appreciated. We are at least a month away from firming our plans as we have to sell our house prior to leaving.

  7. Pre-diabetes is like pre-pregnancy, you either are or not. HbA1C is normal at 4.0 to 5.4. Anything over you are classified as a diabetic. Normal treatment begins when HbA1C is greater than 6.5. Keeping HbA1C between 6.0 and 6.5, means you are controlling the diabetes with medication. If the HbA1C goes below 6.0, the medication should be decreased and if the HbA1C goes above 6.5, the medications should be increased.

  8. Though the calcium score is important, it is a result of test that is can be unreliable. The next step is to do an exercise stress test. This may lead you to a cardiac catheterization which is the definitive test. This will show whether you have blockage or not and at that time an angioplast/stent can be done or coronary artery bypass surgery can be done. If blockage is less that 50% in any artery on the heart the results of the calcium score  is considered a false positive.
