Back in the Uk in 1983, I was no longer in London, but still made the odd match from my home in Essex
Where abouts in Essex Mobi..?? I'm a Brentwood boy originally!
Congratulations on 50+ years as a loyal Spurs supporter. After all that time and punishment following the boys you still sound fairly sane...!!!
I don't get near to 50 years but me, my Dad, Grandad all have White & Blue blood. My grandad on my Mum's side of the family played for Spurs from 1936 till the end of the war. Signed the same day as a certain Billy Nicholson who was a 16 year old junior...!!!
PS: Sorry to post this link again Chon, but I'm dead proud of this story!!
Hi Backpack - that's a great story!
I lived in Basildon for about 15 years. Quite easy to drive round the M25 to Tottenham. Strangely enough, when I lived in Ilford, most of the kids supported West Ham, so I was in the minority. But those days were so different - I used to go with friends to watch Hammers when Spurs were playing away, and watched th greats Like Bobby Moore, Hurst etc. We even made the odd trip to Arsenal - but the games were so boooring...
Well, we may be long suffering supporters, but we had some great teams and great players, from the "double era" right through to Linekaer, Gazza, Ginola etc. A magic team - always have been, always will be..... except when George Graham and that Swiss idiot were in charge
.....
At least George Graham won you a trophy

There are a significant number of people living in Thailand who do not seem to qualify for any of the visa options UNLESS they are going to permit endless tourist visas. What visa would you suggest a 40 year old retired American apply for who is not married to a Thai and does not wish to work or do business in Thailand?
If a 40-year old American is truly in position to spend the rest of his/her life in a foreign country as a true retiree - he/she must have sufficient money for those investment related visas still avaiable ... The "cheapest" (in terms of how much must be put on the table) would be to form a company, which employs you as some kind of director for a salary sufficient to get you one-year extension of you permitted-to-stay-stamps. Of course, you'll have to pay tax of that (maybe only on paper) income --- but why not, if you like this country enough to want to stay here for good? ... Well, I gues the company also needs to do some sort of business to remain an acceptable entity - but if you're only 40 years old - no symphaty from here if you feel too old to trying comply with that ...
i am a 49 year old who can get his pension at the age of 50 who works in England and was planning to move to Thailand next August what do i do now?
the lump sum i take from my pension will be used to build a home so i will not be able to stick 800,000 in the bank.HELP

Maybe I will come across quite seriously on this particular answer, we joke and p**s about with our words and answers quite a lot, but without tthe likes of LUDO and FARANG CONNECTION links in our Buriram lives, well our availability to contact local expats if we so wish would be much more difficult.......give these locations your full support..........this is not an advertisement for my cuzz or my good friend, .....I never get any special fish and chips or any discount on my Tetley's.......although if I speak highly enough this maybe will come about!!!!!!!
I have not forgotten the gang in Bahn Kruat also and I have promised my pal Thaddeus to arrange a cross villaage Farang visit..........let's all stay in touch...........
Why no broaden the horizon nit noi.
Let's have a cross border gathering every 2 months, or when ever suitable??.
One in Buriram (can be at Time out) one in Surin (FC), one in Ubon (Suan Loong Daeng Farm Stay or Wrongway Cafe) or any other place that I dont know yet
This way we can link more faces to the TV names, meet new friends, learn more about other Isaan areas, and get more variety (if needed) in our lives.
Bergan that sounds a good idea but getting people to leave the nest is hard.

Get a Nationwide Flex account.... and send the ATM card to the recipient .... (don't ask for the VISA card) ..... it's a trust sort of thing.... but far better than Western Onion, or the other multitude of advertised ways
do you no if they give you 2 cards on one account?

HI
This must have been asked times b4 but which is the cheapest way to get money from the UK to Thailand?
Any UK banks offer internet transfers?
-
No wonder he thinks people want him dead.
It's just smoke mate...........I have lived long enuff in the region to understand all this bull.
It won't happen. Why would a Thai government kill its influx of investment and tourist money overnight????
It's a power struggle going on and they are trying to implement changes that eventually will not happen.
Thaksin is sitting in London and they're trying to muck around while he's away.....
Won't happen!
Just wait and see.....
Hope you are right i am all set for early retirement next August and my plans are to come to thailand set up home with my thai wife till the wooden overcoat comes in about 30 years

Binnsy, Having been in your situation i know exactly how you feel and i'm very sorry . It would help if you could post the main points of the refusal. Another genuine couple have had their visa refused. Disgraceful.

Here (Chok Rat, Ban Tako, about 10 km from "downtown" Huay Rat we pay about 20,000 THB per rai :-)
The view: ricefields left, right, back and front of course!
What is the cost per Rai to raise it so its suitable to build on?
