Let me ask the question a different way......

How many days, roughly, did you spend in the UK during each of the tax years when you didn't file a uk tax return?

I never went to the UK.

I was working in Oman on a tax free salary.

But the UK tax office have taxed me for my salary, because I was not resident in Oman for the whole period of 2020 to 2021 tax year.

Even though I was still non resident in the UK for tax purposes, they have taxed my income when working in Oman during 2020 to 2021, even though I lost my job in January 2021.

  2. Thanks for the immediate and useful replies.

I will download Skype and try that.

I just have to somehow survive the weekend with no support.

I am in a mess, and suffering with anxiety and alcohol related issues.

I guess I will just drink and sleep the next 2 days before I can talk to the tax office again!

  3. Hi.

I missed 2 self assessment tax returns when I lost my job in Oman and was not able to file my self assessment tax returns, because I did not have a permanent address in Thailand.

I have very recently been able to get a government gateway access, which is showing me that I owe nearly £7,000.

I have called them, but at over £200 for each phone call, that communication has become untenable.

So my question is, will the UK tax office chase me here in Thailand if I don't/can't pay?

I am not advocating tax avoidance, but they have obviously not made the correct calculations, and fined me for late returns.

Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  4. And yet once again I am not receiving the daily news via email notification.

I have subscribed both with hotmail (which used to work fine), and recently with gmail (which you recommended), and I have received nothing since 18/02/2023.

I really wish you could get your system up and running!

  5. My g/f tried also to order on her Thai phone.

When she checked her order, it said she had not ordered anything!

Ampavit is made in Thailand, but they do not have a contact phone number or any way to order direct?

    All very confusing!

  6. Has anyone else now had problems using shopee in Thailand?

I used to order from them with no problem, but now I only get an error code a02 (account blocked).

I uninstalled the shopee app, but now it no longer shows up in play store for download/reinstall.

    Have they shut down?

On a side note, I used to order b12 ampoules, for self injection, but now I can't find any b12 ampoules available anywhere in Thailand. Fascino have not had stock for a long time. Anybody know where I can b12 ampoules from? I tried to order some from Germany, but Thai customs rejected them, saying that medication was not allowed, but it is only a vitamin!

I suffer with pernicious anaemia, so I can't take tablets or sublingual b12.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  7. My Father passed away last night in the UK. I desperately wanted to go and see him before he died, but my funds are limited, and the extra costs of quarantine and PCR test on arrival, and the very high risk of testing positive on arrival, with the subsequent mandatory extra 10 days minimum quarantine in expensive hotel/hospital made that impossible.

I didn't get the chance to see my Father before he died, solely because of the mandatory quarantine.

I am beside myself with grief.

    And Prayut is to blame!

  8. I fail to comprehend this?

Non o-a visa holders now need to show either health insurance cover for a minimum of 3,000,000 baht, or proof of assets of a minimum 3,000,000 baht. Yes?

Non o visa holders only need to show 800,000 baht in a Thai bank.

I fear that this is only a pre cursor, and that all retirement visas will soon need the 3,000,000 baht, either health insurance, or assets?

With the cheapest 3,000,000 baht health insurance that I have been quoted being 120,000 baht per year, that is beyond a lot of people's budget!

Time to jump ship before my next non o extension, because I am convinced that we are next!

One only has to read the banter, that Thailand only want rich foreigners, to realise that those of us who have been unlucky in life, and not have 3,000,000 baht lying around, are not welcome here!

The Philippines here I come! Only need to deposit 300,000 baht in the Philippines government bank account (with pension income), or 600,000 baht with no pension income! And no stupid 90 day reporting!

  9. Hi gurus.

I went to jomtien immigration yesterday to do my 1st non-o based on retirement extension. The "helper" outside who filled out the tm7 and did all the necessary photocopies suggested that I may have a problem, because I had used an agent for the initial visa. That seemed to be linked to the fact that my passbook showed a same day 900,000 baht deposit and withdrawal just over a year ago when I 1st got the visa (I did not have 800,000 baht in my bank at that time!). I have, since February 2020 kept more than 800,000 baht in the bank.

When I presented the paperwork at the counter, it appeared to be okay, and I paid the 1,900 baht fee, and was told to come back on Monday.

However, I was then also given an appointment for 07 March 2022 (3 months from now), saying that I needed to show an updated copy of my passbook showing that I still have a minimum of 800,000 baht in the bank, although it seems that it is normal to have to do that on the 1st extension?

My question though is what happens if the extension is not granted? How long will I have before having to leave?

  10. I do not post on here much, but this has got to be worth discussion.

The Thai MOPH have announced that they will now be giving the vaccine SQ rather than IM, claiming that it is more effective?

I am due for my 2nd astra jab later in October, and I am very concerned.

I have not seen any supporting evidence that an SQ jab is more effective than IM.

It seems that it is only in Thailand that it works!

Or maybe a ploy to stretch out the limited supply, because it uses a lot less vaccine for SQ?

    Anyone else thinking the same?

And what happens when I go for my 2nd dose?

Can I insist on a full dose IM rather than a 1/5 th SQ?

Thailand confirmed 745 new coronavirus cases on Monday.

Of the new cases, 152 were local transmissions and 577 were amongst migrant workers, the majority of which were discovered in Samut Sakhon and followed widespread testing.

577 migrant workers, the MAJORITY of which were discovered in Samut Sakhon. How many were  discovered  NOT in Samut Sakhon, and where were they discovered?

Cough up the 5,500 baht for a covid test (Bangkok Hospital price).

Pay the hospital bill for 14 days stay if positive.

    Hope you have covid insurance!!!

I am in the same position but a week later. If the lockdown was relatively short it might end just as I got out of quarantine, but I would hate to get out of quarantine just to end up in the middle of a lockdown. I left Thailand just as the first lockdown was starting in late March so I don’t know what it was like.

    Hi.

The 1st lock down was not too bad.

I got stuck in Thailand during the 1st lockdown.

Big-C and 7-11 and pharmacies remained open, and getting food was not a problem.

Booze sales were allowed very quickly! I had stocked up, needlessly as it happens!

Wearing a face mask is uncomfortable, but we have to accept the "new normal".

I see the talk on here about a possible new lockdown, but that has already happened around the world!

I am due to return to Thailand very soon, after enforced retirement from my work in Oman, but Oman have just today stopped all incoming and outgoing flights! The UK and most of Europe have also placed a travel ban!

If you are already in Thailand under quarantine, then you are very lucky!

Some of us who need/want to return are in a far worse situation!

The new worldwide travel bans due to the new strain of the virus have effected me personally, but it has also effected many other people.

My friend, who was due to fly from Oman to the UK for Xmas today, before then returning to Thailand, is now stuck in Muscat! He will miss seeing his family over Xmas.

I read on here about people going on and on about restrictions in Thailand, and a 24 hour booze ban for elections, and I get very exasperated!

If you are currently in quarantine, you know that it is a booze ban for 15 days!

So why do people post on here about "the problems" of a 24 hour booze ban during the current elections? That happens on a regular basis during Big Buddha days!

Thailand want to open to tourists coming, but with a 14 day quarantine, and no booze for 15 days! Umm! Do they really think that ALL tourists are teetotal?

    Anyway!

    To answer your exact question.

    Don't worry about a possible 2nd lockdown!

The 1st lockdown was was not at all bad, except for Thai people who lost their income and businesses!

I think this could be the worst news Thailand could have regarding Covid 19.  Samut Sakhon is, as I understand it, a major source of fish and other seafood for the whole country.  I believe hundreds of pick-ups full of fish and prawns etc. leave the area every day - bound for the provinces.

Its good that they have locked the area down but its also clear that many people who've been in contact with infected people will have already travelled all over Thailand.

Good point! That is my opinion also.

Track and trace is also not effective in Thailand now!

No 7-11 now require log in and log out with Thai Chana or "paper" registration. Big C and Tesco also the same! Only a temperature check, which means nothing if you are asymptomatic?

And it is not only the provinces that the seafood is transported to!

The whole of Bangkok receive their seafood from Samut Sakhon?

How many delivery drivers may have got the virus?

The only other similarly priced ones are the Grand Bella and Bella Express so may have the same issue.  5K baht more for next price range up.

The Thaiest website recommends Transferwise, and TW does generate paperwork for each transfer although I wouldn't call it an invoice, but that may just be a translation quirk.

Faxing can be done from your PC using free software.

    Thanks for the info.

I have applied to book J Residence. They say that they accept credit cards, 3,000 baht up front, remaining paid after quarantine. Total 44,000 baht plus 2,000 baht for airport pickup from Suvarnabhumi. Strange method for reservation though? Only an online form through QR code!
