  1. Here's me.

Rent: (school pays for my place, but it would be 20k)

    Elec: 2500

    Water: 200

    Phone: 500

    Mobile: 1000

    Food: 10,000

    Beer: 10,000

    Entertainment: 5000

I make about 60,000/month teaching, so I'm able to send home roughly 30,000 to offset those looming student loans. and those nasty credit card people.

  2. For that matter, Lennon himself probably would have been a downloader, what with his quasi-communist approach to life.

    "Imagine all the people

    Getting stuff for free."

Man, that guy died before I was born, yet I still miss him.

    BFD!

EDIT: Er, wait, he died 2 months after I was born. But I swear I had nothing to do with it!

  3. Really, if any of the Five major religions (Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism) were to be completely followed in spirit by a nation, that nation would be an ideal place to live. All the Five Big Ones have, at their core, a concept of equality and a desire for peace.

It is usually either people that skew the foundations of the religion, or take the writings entirely too literally, that give it all a bad name.

This is all, of course, my own opinion, but I think it would be equally fair for a Thai person to look at the Christian section of the West and say, "How the hel_l did you screw that up with such a fine foundation?" Or, looking at Yala, saying largely the same thing.

Bottom line is, we're all flawed folks.

  4. Uh... can you tell us what it says, then?

    Thanks,

    BFD!

    Also,

I can't remember the wording, but there's a sign at Cheap Charlie's that says something to the effect that:

"Now have lady toilet. No shit, only pee."

    Or something like that.

  5. Well, if you live near either Mo Chit or On Nut, nothing is really that 'far out', since you can ust hop on the Skytrain and get into the centre.

But, to answer your real question, there actually are things that are interesting despite being East of Soi 33 or North of Victory Monument. This is a big town, and not even the mighty BTS can get you everywhere.

For myself, I currently teach at an international school in Pakkret, and am switching jobs to another one in Bangna, so On Nut is a perfect fit for me.

OP, I don't really have any tips myself. I've just been searching on mrroomfinder.com and click4apartment.com, so I can't really give you any 'inside scoops'. If I hear of _two_ apartments, I'll let you know about one, okay? :o

  6. Hello all, I sincerely hope this topic hasn't been beaten to death already.

I'm looking to arrive in Chiang Mai by about Tuesday of next week (the 10th). I'll probably stay on until the 14th or 15th, and am wondering if I've already waited too long to secure a place to stay. I'll be traveling in a group of five and we definitely don't have any sort of high standard about where we pass out at night.

When I was in Chiang Mai in 2005, I stayed at a placed called 'Lanna House', somewhere on Ratchadamnoen. Is that still around? Does anyone have the phone number? I'd love to stay there again, if possible.

Anyway, have I procrastinated too long, or will I be able to sort something out when i get there?

Thanks kindly, and I hope to be shot by some of your waterguns next week.

  7. I'm starting a new job in August down near Thana City. I'd like to get somewhere to live that's near the On Nut BTS stop, since my work provides a free shuttle to and from this stop everyday.

I know this might be slightly early, but if anyone knows of anything that will available around late July, I'd love to know about it. You can send me a PM.

    Thanks kindly,

    BFD!

  8. Rajawongse between Suk soi 2 and 4 (maybe between 4 and 6) is definitely very good. On the walls, you can see the owners (Jessie and Victor) in various pictures with prominent politicians and celebrities from around the world. Even though I may not agree with Donald Rumsfeld's politics, I get a bit of a buzz thinking that he and I have the same tailor.

I get shirts for 1000B and pants for 2000B. Definitely not the cheapest place, but the clothes are fantastic and they've always been done in two or three days.

  9. I'm living in Pakkret and I gotta say that the commute to the skytrain is not exactly pleasant. Sometimes can take upto 2 hours (if you go at the absolute worst time possible).

It is definitely a quieter alternative to many of the places downtown, but I'm actually finding it too quiet and can't wait to get to my new home near On Nut.
