Public Indecency at Wat Phra Kaew Spurs National Outrage and Debate
Robbie2618 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
I've heard that said many times that its only a tourist thing, but I don't know where that idea comes from. I've been in Nakhon Phanom for 8 years and as far back as I can remember the locals especially the teen ladies wear them here. Just seen a young lady last week in our village wearing them. -
Iranian Boxer Avoids Capture Following Theft from Burmese Woman

Could be the crypto currency since they mentioned it was around $600K worth of crypto in the article. Since they knew the money was transferred through 3 different accounts she knows where it is, just can't access it without the account codes. Unlike a bank account that the authorities can freeze and access, crypto accounts can be a bit more challenging to access even if you know the account. Thats one reason many involved in shady deals like crypto over cash and banks. -
British woman allegedly assaulted by Bangkok condo guard
Robbie2618 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
She hit him twice first, being assaulted is not "Being a tad upset". I as most detest men hitting woman but if a woman is going to throw down and attack someone then expect equal in return. -
French national apprehended in Bangkok on kidnap charge
Robbie2618 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Tipped off "by a remorseful member of the gang" more likely he wasn't being paid enough and switched sides for a handsome payout. Now, you never know which side to believe but it seems she was smuggled into the country "and explained her failure to report her entry into Thailand was due to safety concerns" So her credibility is shot. -
Phuket hotel evicts foreigner who threatened taxi driver with knives
Robbie2618 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
They evict her from her room but let her crash in the lobby? Thats strange, at least to me. Typically, your removed from the property altogether, would seem she doesn't have any friends to come take her. -
Foreigner Questions Thai Dowry: Netizens Respond
Robbie2618 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Going to depend on the family, when me and the misses got married, the mother-in-law said don't worry about a dowry as we have been together for 7 years and 3 children and treated her daughter and family well. The wife said I should give something because the villagers would talk if I didn't and up to me, so I gave the equivalent of $1,500 USD in gold to honor and respect the mother-in-law and local customs. I guess I lucked out and live in a bubble the past 8 years as I read the horror stories of family fighting and treating the farang as a ATM. I've had nothing but the opposite experience from my wife's family and neighbors, lucky to have a very conservative and respectful family. -
Thai Airways sues over passenger’s flight diversion criticism
Robbie2618 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm actually surprised to read comments on here defending Thai Airways. I guess it just shows the differences in culture how people think. Personally, I feel openly being able to voice your displeasure at a company or even someone personally if there involved in the trades is legitime way to get change and warn people. Sure, there will always be people like here in this case that defy common sense, no pilot is going to randomly divert unless there is a good reason. But the few that do speak nonsense should not stifle the voice of everyone with the threat of litigation or jail. Many companies have changed a policy or how they operate by exposing wrongdoing, many government agencies have been exposed wrongdoing by people speaking out. Take in the UK now with the Post Office scandal, the big kicker exposing this to the general public was the mini-series Mr. Bates Vs The Post Office. It played a significant role in drawing attention to the scandal influencing the course of the official inquiry. This show would be illegal under Thai law as it defames the post office as well as officials involved, and the general public would never know the scale of the injustice and much easier for the government to sweep it under the rug. For the greater good of society free speech is needed. -
When one hears anything happening to an "Influencer", the first thought that comes to mind is a staged incident, not saying this is one of them but when they go on to give no specifics of the alleged incident just her word it happened, it does throw some shade on it. Also, her saying in and out of the hospital means she wasn't hospitalized there for 10 days but the article would lead many to think that if they were paying attention.

Irishman’s life hangs by a thread after mosquito bite in Thailand
Robbie2618 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
He more than likely had symptoms for a while but just thought it a cold. My friend had malaria and that was the case, he felt ill for several days but just thought it a cold, then as he was driving, he passed out and wrecked. Luckily, he was ok and recovered from the malaria. So, this guy with dengue it probably just crept up on him and he ignored the first symptoms. -
Australian Hells Angels Gang Leader Arrested In Thailand
Robbie2618 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
You do not become the leader in any of these organizations without doing some serious crimes, that's just how it is. The HA are the real deal, there not some wannabe gang. To get to any position of power takes time and you have to impress the leadership and that's only done through violence and a long list of very bad deeds. -
Srettha Slammed For Literally Bowing To Paetongtarn
Robbie2618 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just means he knows where the true power lays. -
Does not seem complicated at all, he was doing business and not paying taxes and got caught, strike #1. As far as forging the signature another law broken, doesn't matter if the partner agreed to it, strike #2. Then, they say his visa was expired but they don't say when unless I overlooked it so strike #3 an overstayer. Then misses 1st court ordered payment of 200,000 baht, somewhere around $6,000 USD strike #4. This guy has no friends or family to spot him $6K to stay out of prison? I guess with his decision-making abilities they aren't interested.

Man Held For Killing British-Thai Youth Over Drug Deal
Robbie2618 replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Hopefully they have the right man, but I'm always suspicious of these confessions after a all-night "interrogation" especially if it involves tactics like plastic bags over the head. The skeptic in me wonders if they simply didn't pick him up because he was recently out of prison so a quick easy confession and case closed. -
I would think there is more to it than not being able to afford to renew his visa since he was farming 30 ria of land and he is retired so collecting a monthly SS check. He chose to stay in which is not rational rather than go back to farming. So I'm going with there was underlying issues not just the cost of renewal. So what came first, his financial difficulties or him becoming a shut in? No one is going to come out and say they didn't renew their visa because they didn't want to go outside, there all going to blame it on something else. But doesn't really matter, he went about it the wrong way now is going to be deported and banned and probably permanently separated from his wife.

New edict tightens controls on non-medical use of cannabis in Thailand
Robbie2618 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Can't be sold to students. What exactly does that mean? There is a provision that no one under 20 but does this student clause exclude let say a 23-year-old who is enrolled in university cannot buy or use it but a 23-year-old not in enrolled in school can?? -
Cabinet set to decide on 300 baht fee for foreign tourists
Robbie2618 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Seriously, I'm not going to get into the merits of the fee in itself whether it makes any sense. But for all the people posting that it will chase tourists away your in some dream land, not a single person is going to decide not to come to the Kingdom over what amounts to $10 USD as they are already spending considerably more than that to come here even the cheap backpackers. Just look at your ticket its full of fees. This forum is just full of cranky old grouches who would complain when the sun rises and then when it sets. -
It does just amazes me some of the thinking here, the school up the road from me has electrical wires about a dozen of them hanging from the pole down to about 3 feet from the ground well within reach. Just 30 or so yards a way there are always students gathering at the school entrance. I just cant understand how the school faculty, parents and government employees cant see the danger.
