  1. "What a bunch of foul mouthed, aggresive and basically anti-social misfits they are, they are loud and obnoxious, overheard conversations are crass and raciest."

Well mate, after living here for 44 years one of the most endearing things about an Aussie is that the foul mouthing humour is self depreciative.

An Englishman seems to think that any slur against his race is an affront against his own manky mother and therefore justifies the retribution of as many thugs as he can put together.

  2. "Long live the Queen" indeed.,

I am English by birth and my "digs" are worth more than half a mill. No Abo wife but cut my teeth on a few :o

No mate, no social misfunction on this side just pure observation.....dick!!

Go on, deny the fact that you have gone screaming hooligan chants down a peaceful street thinking that everyone wants to hear your f**cked up singing and admiration of your favourite sport that you were never good enough to compete on a competative level:

    loser!

  3. This will attract some feedback I suspect but here I go,

Why are English tourists such bad representatives of an otherwise sensible and friendly race of people. Why does it seem that when an Anglo tourist travels abroad he feels that he has to prove that he is of a superior (angry, disillusioned and aggressive) genetic pool?

Why does the Englishman thrive on pack mentality and enjoy the advantage of majority rules (threatens) alpha male/female status?

These questions came to mind whilst touring Pucket and Pattaya...they were also evident in Khon Kaen but really hit home in Perth , Australia where my wife and I have been for the last week. We have an apartment in inner Perth...the "entertainment" area and I have had the double misfortune of living next door to a large and well run packpacker hostel. The occupents seem to be a 50/50 split of bonofide backpackers and English tradesmaen and women here to work and earn a buck.

The second misfortune has been in simply walking around during the day listening and observing the attitude from a casual point of view...unfortunately this is still full of aggression and "attitude".

What a bunch of foul mouthed, aggresive and basically anti-social misfits they are, they are loud and obnoxious, overheard conversations are crass and raciest.

Happy , loud and angry in a group...ashamed and lonely whilst solo!

    WHAT HAPPENED?

  4. Very nice responce Gary.

Tattoos, Piercings, Attitude....it is all alive and thriving here in Perth, Australia at the moment. More ink that a Rupert Murdoch get together.

Black socks and sandals? ahhhh no, not that bad yet, but a fair amount of checked shorts and striped shirts (or visa versa)

English backpackers are still the main source of loud mouthed, aggressive street behavour here in down under paradise, <deleted> is it with these goons? I live in an inner city apartment when I am here and by Christ these pommy yobs are causing some grief

  5. khunandy, what did you mean by"i could see her developing a few western habits i did n't like",interesting, care to elaborate pleasr.

I had to really think about this for a few days. It really was a mixture of so much time shopping (window and purchases) and just slipping into a routine lifestyle. I guess I am being unfair saying "western habits" but where we live in Thailand is fairly remote and shopping is an adventure not a boredom breaker.

On reflection the group of Thai friends my wife made through working in a local Thai restaurant was cause for concern as well. It was a very competative circle of Thai women in regard to what their worth was and how much gold they had...plenty of invites to the casino etc.

One battleax openly boasted she had two "farang" husbands, both working on remote minesites but I havent a clue how she juggled that.

We are happier with the quieter lifestyle in our house in Thailand where my wifes family is.

PS. I am writing this from my house in Perth after signing a rent agreement with a tennant this morning..I guess my visits here will be reduced again:)

  6. When I first met my wife 5 years ago her dream was to go to either Switzerland or Australia (don't ask me). After we married we settled in Perth, Australia for a year or so and although she enjoyed it and got a job, money and a bit more independence I could see her developing a few western habits that I didn't like.

We came back to Thailand and I saw that old spark in her eyes again while happily bashing som tam to death and sitting back on the grass mat surrounded by life long friends.

We go to Aussie a couple of times a year now for a few weeks , mainly to see family and we enjoy it very much but I really don't want to return full time and either does my wife.

  7. Bloody cats, if one of them is a Tom of course he would have been over there marking out his territory. All cats are of course, by nature, bloody stickybeaks.

You did the right thing containing your animals to your own property, dont expect an apology from the guy but maybe he will make a mental note that you at least put in an effort to keep your nosey, pi$$ing cats out of his property.

I would have given it a toe up the bum as well.

  8. Gazza, you're the man. :o

errrm, which are the bars, yellow?

The bars are shaped like a beer mug. Unfortunately the map people do a POOR job of keeping them updated. I suppose it's because they come and go so often. Don't worry, Andy has a supply of beer at his house. :D

Andy, is there a school about a kilometer east and then north of where you live? Also a gas station about a kilometer north and west? If so, I have the correct coordinates for your house.

    Gary,

Yep, right on the money, google earth still shows rice paddy.

    Andy

  9. Andy, send me the GPS coordinates of your favorite watering hole in Chum Phae and I'll join the party to meet GungaDin. We have a new watering hole in Nong Hin. It is located on the corner of 201 and the road that goes west toward my house.

GungaDin, I live about 85 kilometers north of Chum Phae. North of Chum Phae is much more scenic. Very little farang oriented things but the mountains are beautiful.

    Hi Gary,

My favorite watering hole is at my place now the wife has opened the shop, mainly because I get two beers and a packet of smokes allowance a day out of the skinflint.

Good, spacious drinking holes are still a bit thin on the ground in old Chumphae but there is always somewhere to sit, as the time draws closer and George and I put our heads together we can sort it out...hope to see down my way soon for a beer and a show around.

There are a few new cheap rooms/hotels in town that have cropped up over the last 6 months so getting your head down in town is not a problem.

Coyote bars as well I have been told.

    Andy

  10. Hey, room for one more? I'm back in 12 days ...but who's counting.

Andy, When will you be home?

    Hey George,

I will be home in 10 days , parents, daughter and grandson are coming up for 10 days. I will go to Perth from the 11th Nov to 20th Nov then back at home with another crowd until the 6th Dec.

Brother, wife and nephews are coming for a few days late Nov. Must be something in the water. It will be good to bend the elbow again and put solving the Worlds problems in the "can wait" basket or should that be the "after 6 Leos" basket.

Sid may be around at that time as well which should satisfy GungaDins appetite for Aussies.

Forgot to tell you that a new place has opened on the corner opposite Elle's establishment. Nice decor and atmosphere, food etc. It is owned by the guy who has the mobile phone shop. He has done a good job.

    See you soon old boy

  11. GungaDin,

I like it. I live 30kms out of town and its just enough distance to rein in impulse binge drinking :o There are a few small restaurants and farang type bars in town to get to know the local ex-pats and drop in for a yarn when things are quiet.

There seems to be houses of your description for rent, the expat school teachers dont seem to have any trouble finding air con accomodation. Alternatives are long term hotel rooms in the few new establishments that have popped up.

Downside, there isnt much of a "darkside" and if there was your GF would probably know in 5 minutes if you visited there.

I would give it a 7/10...of course it depends on your partner as there are not too many places to escape to after a barny.

I will be home when you come up. PM me and I will shout you a beer and introduce you around a bit.

Where abouts in Central NSW are you from? And where is your GF's village from Chum Phae?

Top Car rent in KK is good, he looked after me very well until I bought the pick up

  12. lowering prices in Thailand ! I think this thread should be in the jokes and funny stories section .

While there will always be unexpected (and not so unexpected) fluctuations in the price of oil the rule to thumb is that : Oil goes up US currency comes down , Oil goes down , US currency goes up.....that , to me is the gauge that has stood me good steed for a few years now.

Comments like dumball's are just that...dumb

  13. Well, this is the way it is: period

    You call..no answer...you get suspicious...she gets angry/upset with your accusation...you are sorry!

All is good until the next time ...and you can repeat the steps however many times you are willing to be suckered.

Sometimes there is a genuine excuse but dont count on your lady being able to communicate to that level, the more she protests , the more guilty she probably is

  14. The only reason I left my home country was also through the repocussions of a divorce. The divorce itself I got over and moved on as they say, but when my visitation rights to my kids were disregarded, yet they still wanted all the child support, I decided it was time to go. I planned the move for 6 months grabbed 900,000 baht (converted) and shot through. (I did spend 600,000 baht in one hit though on a 6 month long holiday in Europe) . I have never looked back. Got really lucky and re-married recently to a Thai. We both have good stable jobs and make adequate incomes, own 3 condos (1 in my name, 1 in hers and 1 in both) rent 2 of them and live in one. We are basically set for life. We live comfortably and can take 2 to 3 holidays per year and within reason can do what we want.

Errrr...and the kiddies back in the home country?

  15. Congratulations on pulling yourself out of the mire Huey. It adds weight to the bar girl arguement of exactly how low you will go to earn a buck in desperate times.

Whoring and Time Share selling must rank up there with the best (sleaziest) of them all..but seriously, my hat is off to you, as it is to all the bar girls I have known who ply their trade due to hard economic times

  16. I reckon that it is common for expats to go into "sell Thailand" overdrive. On the one hand they are telling themselves and their home country friends that you can "life on 20 quid a day) but this is rarely the case when they actually come here.

From my experiences and some bust arse people I have met , they have never budgeted 20 quid a day but have fallen into the illusion of "mai pen rai"..probably the only Thai charactaristic they will adopt.

They turn into balloon hunters down the sois...any birthday party will provide at least one drink. There is a certain amount of sympathy from me, but only one beers worth.

  17. I have a difficult time feeling sorry for anyone who fails to plan ahead. I too was forced to return to my home country when I went broke. The difference was that I had a little fund that I refused to touch. There was enough in that fund for an air ticket and enough to rent an apartment for a couple of months until I was able to get setup and start a new job.

Yep, agree with Gary on this one, as hard as it is, always have a safety buffer. When I was younger it was the price of a ticket home and when I started to scratch at it I knew it was time to go home and earn earn some bucks and stop waiting for the miracle to happen. Dam-n rich widows never turn up at the right time :o

  18. Mate, the internet (when you have it :o is your best friend in Thailand. Never, ever leave a situation to common sense or tradesmans skills. Get on the web, research what you want...drive it into the missus until she understands what you are on about and then head off for service.

For instance, not much can go wrong with a car aircon that a regas wont fix providing drive belts and air con pump seem to be ok..dont ask them to check/diagnose..just tell them to regas..its cheap and 90% of the time fixes the problem...if it won't gas up it has a leak and needs an o-ring replacement somewhere.

Same with your internet accesss, surely you have checked the forums and asked advise, but have you followed up? Probably not and you are still complaining...get informed and get active

    My 2 cents worth

    Khun Andy

We all have time on our hands and most of us are resourceful so use yer noggin' and start being a smart arse farang who knows what he wants

  19. G'day Brahmburgers,

They are for sale in Chum Phae 100 km east of Khon Kaen. In fact my mate has one and has left it at my place while he goes off to work for a few months. When he bought it the locals thought it wasn't very good but after seeing it work they liked it.

The detachable wheels are on the same axle /shaft as the tiller blades and there is also a furrow blade attachment. It is belt and enclosed chain driven from a 3.5 hp motor. I couldnt tell you how much it was and cant send you a photo as I am offshore at the moment...but they are around and I hope you find one closer to your place.
