I went to the BKK Bank main branch in Ubon to get info for my opening a EUR FCD account with them.
I have a EUR savings account with Citi in SIN that I want to transfer here.
The bank said they need to see my Belgian passport and my NonImmO stay permit.
Fair enough, but then they want to see my Thai marriage certificate, my wife's house registration, and additional documents from my bank, immigration and amphoe.
They then told me the way to transfer my EUR Citi funds to that account is to have Citi SIN SWIFT transfer my funds in EUR to my FCD account, have these funds exchanged in THB and then re-exchanged into EUR to then be entered in my FCD account.
This is absolutely ridiculous. I don't want to convert my EUR into THB at this time.
Is that the way FCD in Thailand work?
I thought FCD were for keeping your foreign currency in your foreign currency until you decided to convert part or all into THB.
Try WISE it’s the best way l have found to transfer funds.

I always feel welcome as a farang sharing an event with Thais. I run for pleasure rather than trophies or prize money but this year several events have advertised that prize money is only for Thai competitors not FOREIGNERS. Farangs can compete but will not share any prizes, even finishing first, second or third.
I want to ask this forum is this legal?
I would suggest it’s legal and a sign of how a lot of Thais are extremely insecure. Sad really.

As already suggested, Ibis is usually pet-friendly. If you want something more upmarket, Anantasila in Hua Hin and Rabbit Resort in Pattaya are both nice.
Thank you very much

Ibis chain (not Styles) is pet friendly, up to 10kg pet. No pet charge. Have hotels at Phuket (Kata), Krabi (Ao Nang), Hua Hin (Nong Kae), and we've stayed at all 3.
Saying that, if you can get a trustworthy sitter (we can't), then that would be better for the pet, as it will be restricted to the room, most of the time, and there isn't a lot of 'green areas' at tourist locations. Many municipal parks are not pet friendly.
National parks aren't pet friendly, and it's brutally hot outside, at times, for pet to be hanging out at the beach with you, if longer than an hour or so.
If stopping at Krung Thep, then we prefer Ibis BKK Riverside, vs Sathorn or Soi 4.
Join Accor membership as convenient booking. No real savings, but don't have to prepay, and can cancel up to day of, without penalty. Most other booking sites require prepayment.
Wow, thank you for the excellent feedback, we will give Ibis a look, unfortunately the dog does not like any strangers even the in-laws, he is only around 5kg so no problems there. Thank you again.

Does anyone know of a good quality Pet Friendly hotel, that’s located in a tourist area within Thailand? We live in UdonThani and want to go on holidays preferably a beach location but open to other tourist areas too, however we have a small dog that we wish to take with us, as such we would be driving to the location not flying.
Thanks in advance for my feedback

Thanks to both of you. We love in the UK so I will look out the details for both the land office and ampur
If possible l would suggest flying over to Thailand to sort this out might be much easier.

Go to one of the many main hospitals private if possible and seek their advice ie see a GP and get a referral. Good luck

Is it ok to walk around Udon Thani in the early hours of say a weekend morning ? Like 3am
What's the highest crime area in Isaan?
What's crime like not only in major Isaan cities but in the villages?
If you live in a village do you still need to lock your doors at night ?
What about if you live on a farmhouse , do you feel secure ?
Have you ever been threatened in Isaan ?
I remember years ago and I'm going back to early 2000's I was at a Isaan festival and a Thai guy bumped into me ,drunk and young , he done it a second time about 25 minutes later, I had no idea why until I seen him fighting other that guys
I think that's the only time I felt threatened so I moved away from him
I guess there are some bad people there otherwise they wouldn't have jail's
Are drugs a big thing there ,meth etc ,is there junkies around that railway station at night?
In my opinion Udon is very safe, however in saying that, you still need to use common sense when out at such early times. Generally speaking there is not much to do In UdonThani at 0300.

Never seen these anywhere in UdonThani, night markets are mostly food and cheap knockoffs. Good luck.

You must 'buy' a meter from the PEA and get them to connect to your property. About 2000 Baht.

I just found JP (Qld registered) in Chiang Mai and he told me the embassy charges $80 per page/signature. At 10 pages ($800) might be cheaper to make a trip to CM, I can give you the JPs number here.
Good luck finding one.
Thank you, l think l have heard of this JP and is definitely an option, it’s just that l will be in Bkk later this month and was hoping to find one there. $80 a page is crazy

Hello all
l hope this is the right form for this inquiry. I am looking for an Australian JP in Bangkok to sign/witness a number of documents for me. From what l understand the Australian Embassy provides this service however l have heard they charge per page and as l have approx 10 pages l am hoping to find a better option. Any help would be appreciated……thanks

As much as l like reading these types of posts, l am at a bit of a loss with this one. But as someone has already mentioned the German Embassy needs to be contacted. Thanks for posting

Just in case you'd be asking where the Australian embassy in all of that, don't bother, those lofty perched bureaucrats are not interested in helping Aussies unless it's hit the main news papers.
Correct might have also help if there was a photo opportunity or they could show how supportive they were of minority groups but not in a case like this.

I understand it’s very much a personal preference, but for me l would much prefer to just eat at local street stall, if you pick the right one the food is fresh tasty and served with genuine smiles. Ohh and then there is the price difference too.

The education part: Life skills need to be taught in schools; particularly water safety and road safety. These are more important skills than anything else a child will learn.
It's difficult to ’teach swimming’ because many village schools do not have the facilities - but, water safety can still be taught.
Children will be children and stopping them from doing these things is always going to be difficult, so educate them of the risks; teach them that they could die if they go in the water, teach them what to do if they get into trouble, educate them about the steep sides they may not be able to exit from etc, teach them how to use anything nearby to help assist others in difficulty (ropes, branches etc).
And this is where the responsibility comes in: those in positions of decision making power take no responsibility in these tragic events. They [those in positions of power] could impact some change with instigation of very basic systems, measures and messages in schools and on TV.
Excellent comment and 100% correct, education, responsibility, accountability, ownership and discipline, would all go a long way to addressing several issues.

Hate to be cynical with such a feel good story but let's hope the committee thats managing her money does the right thing. And let's keep it going if everyone on here just donated a couple thousand baht it would go a long way.

Correct if the guy hired a boat and operator to take him fishing he is not to know the area in question was out of bonds for such activity. The real issue is why did the boat operator take him to a restricted area for fishing.

Sorry Udon
So not sure if this will help, as l do not go to bars in or around UdonThani which is where l assume you are referring to? My recommendation would be to head to Central Plaza, get your bearings and go from there. There are a few bars within walking distance and a market too, however the market is best at night. Central Plaza has food courts on the lowest level and a mix of very good restaurants on level 4. There are also a good selection of restaurants in the local area. Hope that helps.
