  1. Suan Lum Night Bazaar has a wide range of home furnishing items, accessories and furniture, including the reed matts and triangle pillows you are looking for. Chatuchak will be cheaper through. About the plants, if you're looking for low maintenance house plants, the small shop at the entrance of the Emporium Gourmet market has a great selection of house plants. Hope this helps.

  2. You should always backup a RAID 1 volume. It is not designed to be a backup in itself and only protects your data from single hard drive failure. RAID 1 does not cover you from data corruption, viruses infecting your data, etc.

In case the files on your RAID volume become corrupted, you should ALWAYS, ALWAYS have a backup, preferably off-site.

Regarding one of the previous posters comments regarding Mozy online backup, there are widely documented reliability issues with Mozy's restore process. Many Mozy users have had major headaches restoring data from Mozy.

If you want an online backup solution, I use and recommend Data Deposit Box. They charge $2/GB per month and are great for backing up relatively small amounts of data. I have about 20GB backed up with them and restoring files is reliable and a breeze. Having an offsite backup also protects your data from theft of your computer, fire, natural disaster, etc.

  3. I can recommend Urban Retreat Spa which do a good Himalayan salt scrub for 1000 baht. They also have a wide range of other body scrub and massage treatments at affordable prices. Check out their site at www.urbanretreatspa.net. The spa is easy to get to being located right near the Emporium.

At the top end of the spa scale, the Banyan Tree Hotel on Sathorn Rd offers extensive body scrub options in a tranquil environment but prices are at the high end.

  5. Speaking from experience, some advanced keyloggers are not currently detected by antivirus/antispyware. For example, the latest version of eBlaster, available from www.spectorsoft.com is not currently detectable by Norton, Kaspersky or AVG. If you are infected with such a trojan, you may never know it.

The default hotkey to open this particular application is CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+T. You might like to try it and see if you get the program's password prompt. Of course, if the application has been remotely deployed, it is possible the installer changed the hotkey altogether. In that case, the only way to be sure your system is clean is to do a format/full-reinstall.

  6. Nothing wrong with the driver. I connected it immediately to a Samsung in the store and 1024x768 was working. On the TCL unit, it would only support 640x480 via the VGA input.

  7. I went to Lotus today and checked out this TCL unit, especially the PC input. Took my laptop and connected it but unfortunately the PC input on this TCL unit only supports 640x480. Despite the screen res for HDMI supporting up to 1366x766, no higher screen resolution than 640x480 is supported for PC input so I would not recommend it to anyone wanting to connect it to their computer via a VGA cable.

The unit also looked cheap and was very flimsy compared to the Samsung LCD panels which have an excellent reputation.

  8. This has been discussed many times. I recommend KSC Internet if you are looking for a premium broadband connection. They are considerably more expensive than other providers, especially the likes of True. Broadband setup time usually takes 3-5 days, and is arranged through your provider. As you say you're not too worried about the cost, so your best choice will be KSC for speed and performance.

  9. The closest border is Aranyapratet (Cambodia) which is about three hours drive from Bangkok. If you want to do it on your own, you can take a public bus from Mo Chit and cross the border yourself, however most visa runners use Jack's Golf service who offer a turn-key package including transport, completing the visa formalities and lunch for 2200 baht. They leave at 5pm from Sukumvit Soi 12, and return at 1pm every day. You can read more here: http://www.jackgolf.com/en/

  10. Best to fly direct from Bangkok to Hong Kong. Hong Kong Express or Dragon Air are both competitive in terms of airfares (around 7000 baht + tax) and it saves the hassle of flying Air Asia to Macau and then taking the ferry. Stay in Kowloon where accommodation is cheaper, rather than on Hong Kong Island. 3.5 star hotels start at about 2500 baht/night depending on promotions. There are also cheap guesthouses however many are dirty and undesirable. If two of you are flying, you can get a good package including airfare/accommodation from your travel agent in Bangkok. If you need any more info, just let me know.
