  1. I want to sell my old Honda Wave and a couple of Thai neighbours are interested, I have a Work permit and a 1 year extension to my Non 'O' Visa, to sell it do I still need to obtain the letter from Immigration as I did when I brought the bike and will I need to sign any other paperwork or go to a bike dealer to transfer ownership and if so how much does the transfer cost.

  2. We have done many marketing campaigns to draw tourists. Next year will also be a good year for us since there will be more five star hotels opening. We will spend about 40 million baht to promote tourism in Pattaya.”

And how will Five star hotels bring in more tourists ? , anyone who can afford these rooms will stay at a resort with clean safe beaches and good safe infrastructure, as for spending 40 Million Bht promoting tourism, if it is going to be spent bringing more Indian, Chinese and Korean quality tourists God help the local bussiness owners.

  3. I witnessed a similer situation in the bar complex next to made in Thailand a few weeks back, 500Bht for some female company to be shared by four Indians who at the time where all sharing one bottle of beer, don't you just love the quality tourists that all the millions that the Tourism Authority is spending to get these guys over here, I also witnessed a group of about eight Indians haggling with a street vendor over the price of his food, I wonder if these are the tourists who are benefitting from the free hotel rooms that where being talked about a few weeks back maybe we can coin a new phrase about town "SLUMDOG CHEAP CHARLIES".

  4. I used to have a bar in Walking st and never paid one Bht to anybody including the BIB, I have many Expat friends who own bars and none of them pay anything as well and have never heard of any of them being threatened by the Thai Mafia either, some of the comments on this post is the biggest load of C**P I have ever seen, now as for being ripped of by the Thai wife/girlfriend or the cashier that's another story.

  5. There used to be bars with pool tables in the beer bar complex at the end of Soi Skaw Beach (opposite Diana Estate on Soi Bua Khaow) and last time I was along Walking Street the old Simon's has been converted to beer bars with pool tables and there is also more of the same on the opposite side of the street.

Diamond Beach Hotel would be a good bet in that area.

Blimey! when was the last time you were in Pattaya, they knocked the Bar complex at the end of Skaw beach known locally as the Cowshed down nearly five years ago now.

As for the OP whoever told you to go to Soi 6 either hasn't been there or is winding you up, this place is nearly all short time bars were the girls crowded outside the bars are the ones doing the people watching touting for bussiness, Walking st has a few spots that would suit you but the beer is a bit pricey otherwise head for Soi 7 or Soi 8 but it can get a bit noisy due to the bars playing the music too loud, there are a few spots along 2nd rd that will have what your looking for or try Soi Diana and Soi Bukhao.

  6. The police bashing gets real old. I guess you'd prefer a real police-state like the UK or USA. Go back and then you'll really find something to complain about...

OH YES! ANOTHER ONE OF THE " IF YOU DON"T LIKE IT GO BACK TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY BRIGADE" DON"T YOU JUST LOVE THEM! , UK a police state ?, well at least it has an independent police complaints commission and sets up anti corruption squads to investigate police corruption, I remember when Toxin was primeminister in LOS he actually said that he didn't mind a bit of financial police corruption as long as it didn't involve drugs as the police were poorly paid and needed to supplement their incomes, say's it all really.

  7. Perhaps some of the Pattaya Tourist Police volunteers can comment.

Yeah! bring on Howard the Duck and his bunch of Muppets to the rescue, unfortunatly when it comes to crime on tourists they are about as much use as a condom with a hole in it, as for Insomnia the 13 Farang owners will have paid off everybody within a few days and it will be bussiness as usual, why waste money going to this sess pit in the first place, overpriced beer and overpriced freelance fa**y.

  8. The problem with the curryhouses here in Thailand and from what I have tasted in Pattaya is the fact that the chefs and owners have never been anywhere near the UK and try to either base what they serve up on the traditional Indian recipe which is nothing like a BIR curry, or just call a medium curry Chicken Tikka Masala in order to get us Expats to buy it, as it was invented in the UK and they havent got a clue how to cook one

As one of the previous posts said it's all down to the Base sauce with spices and other ingredients added at the last moment, I brought myself a book called "The Curry Secret" by Kriss Dillon years ago which is a good starting point to produce BIR style curries at home, there are websites as well that strive to perfect that Takeaway taste.

Another dissapointment here in Pattaya is the Expat reastuarants that sell curries, and also the couple of Expat food manufacturers that sell curries frozen in some of the supermarkets, they're overpriced and again nothing like the real deal.

  9. I have only one full page left in my pasport and three half pages, I am going to vietnam next week and thought that the fact that I have one whole page left everything would be OK, however I have just found out that I need a re-entry permit from Thai Immigration as I have a Visa Extension, from what I have seen on this forum this is yet another full page stamp issued by the Thais, my question is can I remove one of the Cambodian Visas to free up another page, is this legal?, I have no intention of going back to Cambodia anytime soon as I realise that they might not take kindly to me removing one of their old Visas.

Why don't you just get extra pages added then? Most passports have some wording about it being an official government document and to not mutilate or alter it in any way. Doing so makes it invalid, etc..

As far as I know the UK does not provide added pages, however when they describe the size of the pasport they include the pages that have Notes, I am going to phone the Embassy in Bangkok tommorow and see if it is OK for a Visa to be placed over these notes, my only other option apart from renewing it is to get the Immigration officer at Pattaya to try and squeeze the re-entry permit onto a page that is only a quarter full at present, it might slightly overlap a couple of old Cambodian entry/ exit stamps.

  10. 11. The salient point here for the OP is that he is now staying on an extension of stay and unless a reentry permit (or multiple) has been purchased for this current extension of stay, leaving the country will result in the unhappy ending of that extension and only a 30 day stamp will be granted. Get the permit! Also when reentering Thailand be sure to write the permit number (not the original visa number) on the boarding card.

All of the paperwork for my Work Permit and Extension was done by my Thai Boss and I was granted it at Si Racha Immigration, what does the re-entry permit look like and will I have to go to Si Racha again or can I get one at Pattaya Immigration office if I do not have one?

  12. The 90 day clock is reset when you reenter the country. Ignore the paper that is currently in your passport, just add 90 days to your reentry date and report at that time. I assume you have a reentry permit (single or multiple). If you don't you will lose your extension of stay which is a much more serious concern than address reporting.

What is a re-entry permit? I have a One year Multiple Visa that expired in June 2009 at which time I applied for the one year Extension on the basis of a work permit, I have so far reported to immigration once and they have attached a Receipt of Notification with a stamp that states my next renewel is 28 November.

  13. As above really - Must catch the 5th Test but UBC I take it are having none of it.

Came across a guy living in Issan's blog - saying his cable provider was showing most of the tests on S2.

Any random half decent networks in Bangkok supporting this?

    Praying on good news!

    Thanks all..

Just 2 hours down the road from you, here in Pattaya on Sophon Cable TV they have broadcast all of the Ashes series so far , it's UK SKY coverage via Supersport South Africa, some bars are showing it , cheap hotel deal at the moment Siam Sunshine hotel on Soi Honey Inn 390 Bht per night including breakfast.

  14. Where can I buy some ?? There was a man from Belgium in Chiang Rai that was selling pickled Bismark herring (half fillet ) but he went bust , then there was a German in Phuket that was making them so I hear but no longer.

Also jars of Cockles would be nice, not thai but british ones.

I have seen them in the past at Friendship supermarket on South rd Pattaya, as for cockles I have never seen any jars of UK one's here, only packs of local cockles in Fodland on Pattaya Klang, couldn't you just add vinegar and pepper.

  15. Has Thailand succumbed to the Doner Kebab yet , if so where ?

Must have real pita bread , nice salad , yoghurt , pickled Chili , I need one NOW while I lay on the sofa watching a movie . :) washed down with an Iced cold Coke

Dont tell me you dont do that , I know you do or Did :D !!

What here in Thailand and especially Pattaya is described as a Doner Kebab bears no resemblance to what you get in your local Kebab shop assuming you are from the UK, though called Doner Kebabs they are made of Chicken meat that has been sliced spiced and placed on the spit , the pita bread is small and round and the meat plus salad filling is placed on top with either chilli sauce or what looks like mayonaise and rolled into a sausage shape then wrapped in tinfoil , there is at least one Expat bar here in Pattaya that makes their own version of UK Doner meat using lamb, beef and rusk but it is still not that great, the problem is that the legs of meat that the UK takeaways use are made only in the UK and no one as yet has decided to commercialy manufacture them here in Thailand, there's a business opportunity for someone, though the cost of lamb in this country would make them expensive

  16. Is there no facility or store where only the cabinet doors and any fascias (i'm sure thats not spelt right lol !!) can be supplied and just re-hung on the exsisting carcasses?

That would work out a lot cheaper and with a lot less hassle too

    Penkoprod

I have a fitted kitchen , but need to refurbish part of it , some new doors and drawers plus a new sink unit can anyone point me in the direction of a company that will do this instead of try to sell me a complete new kitchen, I beleive that the units are standard sizes that are used all over the world, I know in the UK there are many companies that do this type of work, anyone here in Pattaya know of anyone local.

  17. Does anyone know of any hotels that are offering specials or discounts due to it being out of season and low on tourists.

Also, wheres the best place to but packs of fresh sausages and bacon ? I live in Phetchabun and they dont have any western style food outlets :D

Also, where apart from soi2, beach road and walking street are there decent bars to go to with live music but reasonably priced beer? :)

Walked down Soi Honey Inn the other night and the Sawasdee Sunshine hotel was priced at 380Bht incl breakfast, it has no pool but it is only a two minute walk to the Siam Sawasdee where you can use their pool I think that this is a good price for budget accomodation at the moment.

As for bacon and sausage, Villa supermarket at the Avenue shopping centre on 2nd rd sells frozen catering packs of Porkies brand at very good prices, the sausages are English breakfast or cumberland and come in packs either six large or twelve small for 106 Bht ,the bacon comes in several cuts in 1 Kilo packs for around 215 Bht.

Several live music bars with reasonably priced drinks, We are the world bar on beach rd just before Soi 7 and 8, the Bodega bar 2nd rd corner of Soi post office with early evening happy hour , Wonderful bar 1 and Wonderful bar 2 both on 2nd rd a short walk going north from Soi post office.

  18. I live in Pattaya and found some as I needed them for a chinese dish I was cooking, if you go to the spice section at Foodland and look for the packets of Five Spice with the whole spices inside and normally a small cotton bag that you are supposed to place them in and boil, you will find that these packs contain the sechuan peppercorns along with other spices, you dont get a lot but the packs arent very expensive, I think they also stock them in Friendship as well.

  19. The best product that this company make are their Nan breads though I wish they did a Peshwari Nan as well, I havent tried the product that you are talking about but I have had the misfortune to try the Chicken Tikka Massala which as I mentioned on another thread was easily one of the worst cheap frozen curries that I have ever eaten, it tasted like a cheap Tesco value Madras from the UK, with the smallest and most tasteless pieces of chicken in it that I have ever encountered, I know that in Pattaya we have a few Indian restuarants but again most of the chefs have never been anywhere near a UK curry house and turn out curries that taste nothing like what they are supposed to be, there are a couple of exceptions here but the prices of their curries are ridiculously high given that the cost of labour and ingredients in LOS is far less than the UK.

Ae we to believe that curries are an "English" speciality " ?? Dear me and I thought the many times I visited India i was eating local food, how stupid of me ! I do now believe that one of us is a total dipstick and geographically challenged. The curries offered in the UK are very tasty but like Chinese food there, bastardised to suit the local taste.

Oh dear insults on the food forum how sad!, are Indian curries an English speciality? no, and bastardised, well I guess yes, you would have to ask the Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani chefs that emigrated to the UK during the 50's,60's and 70's why?, it's true before these guys came up with them a lot of the dishes never existed but pherhaps that's why Indian food was not very popular before then not only in the UK but in other countries as well, I remember reading once that the head chef at one of the best hotels in Dheli said that the most ordered curry dish in the restuarant was Chicken Tikka Masala which was indeed invented in the UK, I think that most expats on this forum are talking about BIR style Curries which are now reproduced and exported all over the world including India itself, pherhaps you could start a thread on the genuine cuisine and recall the days backpacking across India eating the arse blowing slop they serve up to disguise the rotten meat in their food.

  21. I'm guessing "Rang Mahal" is produced by the people who run the Indian restaurant of the same name on the top floor of the Rembrandt Hotel?

If so, although I'm not a great fan of frozen food, I will definitely try their offerings next time I go shopping - is it only at Tops, or have you found it elsewhere?

    Patrick

Their Nan bread is good but don't bother buying the Chicken Tikka Masala curry, though it's only 75 Bht in Friendship there is very little chicken in this curry and in chunks smaller than the size of a 10 Bht coin, and as for the sauce it's just a hot bland taste the same as a Tesco value Madras that you get in the UK.

  22. Last Sunday, most of the meeting of the Pattaya City Expat Club was dedicated to presentation of a new radio station that is now in "startup" mode in Pattaya. The founder, Drew Noyes, is also involved with the recently launched newspaper, "Pattay Times". I'm sure that you could get information from him on this subject.

You might also try contacting the popular "Pattaya People" radio management; and asking them for input.

As suggested earlier, such MEDIA professionals would be the place to start. However, you will certainly have to engage with local political officials sooner or later. Why not sooner? If I were trying to start up such a public business, and did not speak Thai (which I assume you do not), I'd link up with a competent, trustworthy, interpreter; and head for City Hall!

Well that's a suprise, Papa Noyes another of the Expat's along with Neils Colon and Howard the Enforcer who have their fingers stuck in so many Pattaya Pies, good luck if you can break into the club, take a look at all of the high and mighty current or ex- politicians and high ranking BIB that are paid advisers or directors of these guys companies and see what you need to do, and as for asking Colon's radio station for input are you kidding? they will be on the phone so fast to the people that matter you will be held up in red tape for years, the last thing that they want is competition stealing their advertising revenue.
