  1. Can anyone point me in the direction of a satelite instalation company here in Pattaya who can provide me with a fixed dish system and a card that can pick up the Multichoice package from South Africa, as I want to get rid of my Truevisions dish and package.

On Sukhumvit just North of Index furniture on the East side of the Road, is PSA Satellite company. I think they might have the package you are looking for. I have the Dynasat system which works very well. What programming does the Multi choice package from South Africa offer?

    Barry

Their premium package has all of the BBC Channels,Entertainment,Lifestyle,CBBC,News, plus all of the Supersport channels 1 to 6 plus Gold and Extra,Sony entertainment, Mnet series, Sky News, ALJazera, four Movie Channels plus Hallmark plus music and local African channels, all in all a better package than True anyway but you have to source the card from a Thai agent and pay one year in advance for the card.

  2. ^ Going to have to find an alternative 'visa fixer' are we?

"this has been going on for years"

"these stamps are all kosher paid off under the table"

Maybe you have benefited from this illegal activity before?

Who you calling a prick anyway?

No, I have a Job and work permit and Visa all completely legal, sorry to dissapoint you, go and pick on someone else and post your 1978th, you obviously have too much time on your hands.

Woman arrested by Immigration Police accused of offering Fake Visas to foreigners.

On Friday Mr. Gaven Horst aged 34 from South America went to the Immigration Office in Jomtien to check the authenticity of a visa which was stamped in his passport. He explained to Police Captain Achib that he obtained the visa through the Visa 2 Company based in Soi 13 off Pattaya Second Road and paid 13,500 Baht for the service which did not require him to leave the country but only hand over his passport to the company who would do the rest. It was determined that the visa was fake and an Immigration Police investigation began into the company. Khun Bat-tamaporn aged 40 from the Visa 2 Company was contacted and explained she used another company called Property 4 U based in South Pattaya to make the visa. Khun Natarin from the Property 4 U Company explained that they sent the passport to Khun Narinee aged 43 who could make the visa. An arrest warrant for Khun Narinee was obtained and she was arrested on Friday Night and taken to the Immigration Office. She confessed to providing the fake visa service and was charged with producing counterfeit government documents. She will appear in court next week.

    Pattaya One News 2009 05 23

And this prick didn't know that he was obtaining a dodgy visa?, why would he not return to his home country or go outside Thailand to get one, this has been going on for years, that's why an immigration police colonel on 20,000 Bht a month lives in a 5 million Bht house and sends his kids to private schools and university and drives a million Bht car, now the person at the bottom of the food chain get's time in the Monkey house thanks to an idiot who who bottled out before he did a visa run, these stamps are all kosher paid off under the table, and just need the Falang to keep his mouth shut.

  4. Ok, what if you are involved in an accident on Sukhumvit for example, say a small prang with one of the lunatic weaving motorcycles.... anybody know what is the procedure (besides doing a runner) where the cops are concerned? I imagine you stop and wait for cops with their white spray paint right?

    Anyone with first hand experience?

Yes in 7 years 3 incidents, the first one was a Thai bike driver who was too close up my arse when I had too brake fast he hit me from behind, in any other country in the world you are in the right, he should be far enough back too brake as well, anyway after demands for money even though the main damage was to my bike I called the police who just told them I was not willing to give them money and they dropped their claim, no mention of paying for the damage to my bike though, the next two times I have been hit with minimal damage too my bike I have just put my foot down and driven away as fast as possible, you are seen to be an oportunity too make money, don't let them, remember as well that they will cut the police in on any money that they extort from you, as I said if you can just get away as fast as possible.

  5. I visited Friendship Supermarket early this morning and discovered that single bottles of large Chang beer have increased in price from 36 baht to 43 baht.

    This is outrageous.

That makes a case of Large Chang (12 bottles) 516 Baht.

One year ago exactly (I checked my receipts) I was paying just 350 Baht per case.

Suggestions of how we can combat this greed & injustice welcome.

It wasn't that long ago I was drinking San Mig Light from foodland at 21Bht a can now it's 31Bht and in the 7-11 it's 36 That's 30% plus increases, I switched to Leo at 21Bht a can and now its 25.5Bht in Foodland and 30 Bht in 7-11, and also 30Bht in of all places Tesco who pride themselves on cheap prices? yes the tax went up but this is blatent profiteering, just glad I don't smoke and are paying 12 to 15 Bht more for a pack than last month, I thought Toxin was bad but this mob are on some kind of mission to turn the Thais and Falangs into teetotals, Ive been looking at homebrew kits on the internet as it's more expensive to drink at home than in the UK now.

  6. The frozen food here is very limited and overpriced, a high percentage of it seems to be fish based I am sure that these companies make products for the European and US market but dont bother stocking most of them locally, I also cannot understand the logic of some of the imported frozen food and why anyone would be prepared to pay 3-400 bht for a 350gm portion, great if you want to diet and pay over the top for it, what I miss is the range of chilled food that is available in the UK, and there are allways buy one get one free promotions on them, genuine as well not the double the price first Thai logic, I notice Tesco/Lotus stock a small range of oriental chilled food in the South Pattaya branch including a version of Spaghetti bolognaise.

  7. Hi - can I get hold of this (or Cialis or Viagra) from any Pharmacies in Pattaya? How much should I be looking to pay?

And please - no patronising responses from wannabe doctors. :)

    Thanks for any suggestions. :D

Yes, but as the sale of it over the counter is ileagal it would be stupid to post on this forum where it is available in case the BIB are reading this post, you can go to any health centre and see a doctor who can prescribe it to you, these are the places that you will see the advertising signs for the medications that you want outside the premises, however they will charge to see you and sell you the brand name medication and not the cheaper copies, have a wander around some of the soi's in central Pattaya looking for a pharmacy and go in and ask for Kamagra jelly or pills and you might get some under the counter, 4 pills around 250- 300Bht or 1 jelly 70-90 bht

  8. Those UFC peas are like rocks :) Not thought of blending them to make mushies, the taste may be the issue (they don't have any).

Heston Blumenthal method (from here http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_...icle631377.ece)

    Mushy Peas

    Serves 4-6

475g frozen peas (I like Birds Eye)

    65g butter

    6 mint leaves

    Salt and pepper, to taste

1 Defrost the frozen peas in a large pot filled with cool water — this should take a only few minutes. Strain, shaking off as much excess water as possible.

2 Reserve about one-fifth of the peas.Place the remaining peas into a sauté pan, along with the butter and 50ml water. Cook over a medium heat until all the water has evaporated and the peas are cooked through. If your water is very hard, it would be best to buy some bottled water (or, even better, de-ionized car-battery water) to use when cooking the peas, as this will help to keep their colour bright green.

3 Place the cooked peas into a blender (or use a stick blender) and purée. While blending, adjust the taste by adding the mint leaves and the salt and pepper.

4 Fold in the reserved peas and serve.

Your right they are like rocks and wouldn't buy them for any other purpose, but they are processed peas and not garden peas which I think make the best mushies, I brought another can tonight in Tesco for 17 Bht just give them a go, to me they dont taste far off the Batchelors brand and they taste better than the Aussie brand that they used to sell in Friendship, which has now replaced those with Cross&Blackwell brand which are far too runny and you have to thicken them up, they are 55Bht and the Batchelors in Villa where 80Bht but have not seen any in the Pattaya branch recently, as for adding mint to them that's OK with lamb but not with Fish&Chips.

  9. I got my sat system installed about 5 months ago from a local Pattaya supplier. It is a 10 foot C/Ku band moveable dish and cost 9,000 baht to be installed. It took ages to get my Dreambox to control the dish correctly but now I can watch lots of stations. I prefer the MNet package from Africa, I get BBC Entertainment, News and Sky News as well as many other good stations.

In addition I also have Sophon Cable. Used to hate it but now it has Universal and Sci-Fi channel so now I have everything I need and cancelled my True Subscription. I am already in profit!

    Chris

Hi Chris, Where in Pattaya is the supplier, what was the total cost for the equipment and instillation and did they help you get the MNET Package or did you find a Thai distributor of the smartcard yourself , one other question what Premier football coverage does MNET have.

  10. Has anyone else invested in this resort on beach road between soi 4 & 5 ???

If so do you know how its coming along ??

any info or pix would be much appreciated !!

So have you invested money? the way that you have asked the question implies you have, anyone investing in these projects that they are advertising non-stop on cable TV and in the local rags needs their heads testing, I live the other side of Sukhumvit and they are selling next to nothing, these crooks advertise with the Great Dane or the Fat Brits TV channels, and then reel in mugs who fall in love with a dream then do a runner, why has the housing market collapsed everywhere except this magic little kingdom called Pattaya, ask yourself?, the moment that they build and finish that tallest resedential Condo/block of flats/skyscraper in the world, whatever you want to call it in Jomtien I will throw myself off but I think I am fairly safe at the moment.

  11. Now that's a hot tip!

    But how's the taste?

    Regards Bojo

Honestly try a can, they come out as good as you will get in your local chippy as long as you don't overblend them. I have an imported blender with the button on that you press and release and so can blend for a fraction of a second or more.

  12. Spent years getting friends and family to bring over tins of mushy peas and when I run out spent anywhere from 55Bht to 80 Bht for them in the supermarket , then found a quick 2 mins way of making them here a lot cheaper. Buy a can of UFC green peas available in Fooodland, Tops , Friendship at around 18 Bht, open the can and drain off the sugar water, next put just over half the can in a blender and add about four Tablespoons of water, blend until smooth, then add the remainder of the can and blend for a second or so three our four times and take a look, if they look about right great if not blend again but very quickly, more than a couple of seconds at a time and you will have a thick pea soup, also add some salt at a pinch or two to taste, if you like a nice green colour to your Mushy peas add some green food colouring when you blend the first half of the tin, this makes one large or two small portions, I have tried some of the other brands of peas but find that the UFC ones are the best for this.

  13. i just made some pickled onions about 3 weeks ago using this recipe

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A655535

    and the results are in:

not bad at all but maybe a bit spicy. that was my fault, i left the spices in the vinegar for about 1 hr vs. 5 mins as per the recipe. i used some malt vinegar but that was quite expensive so mostly some cheap red wine vinegar. i'm going to try some cheap Thai vinegar next and see what happens.

for the onions, i used the while soup onions from Tesco, 14bhat/bag. i pealed off the outer layers to get the size down to about 1.5" and used the excess for general cooking.

i'd say, besides the too spicy part, just as good as English pickles. will try agai.

oh yep, i know i'm supposed to wait at least a month, i have more jars made up to try later.

OK for the Brits who like the Haywards taste but don't want to pay Villa Market prices, Foodland sells jars of Howies pickle onions in a white vinegar and they are very bland, however buy a jar and drain about 20% of the white vinegar off and top up with Malt vinegar(Heinz or Sarsons) add about half a dozen black peppercorns and four whole cloves and leave for a week or two in the fridge, then taste the difference, one thing to look out for though is sometimes the Howies onions are a bit soft ,I like them crisp and crunchy so it can be a bit of a lottery, if you want to go further when the jar is empty buy some soup onions from foodland peel and put in the jar and if needed top up with the same ratio of white and malt vinegar and leave for 2 to 3 weeks.

  14. Cancelled my Platinum subscription today and reverted back to Gold, told the woman at the True payment centre in Pattaya that I couldn't beleive how stupid the management of her company are for getting rid of the only quality entertainment station in their line up , she told me that many complaints have been made, many Farang not happy, If theres one thing that the Brits do well it's complain, so hopefully True might yet go back on their actions , I have sent a couple of mails and received standard answers as well, if they don't change the decision I will be looking at getting JSAT to install a system but can't decide on which of the two alternative packages to go for, ASTRO from Malaysia which obviously would be a strong signal given the geography, but worry that the censorship given that it is a muslim country may be worse than what we get here in Thailand or Multichoice from South Africa which may suffer from significant rain fade due to the signal strength, any advice would be welcome, both these packages carry the BBC Entertainment channels by the way and according to JSAT who put you in touch with the Thai distibutor of the cards costs around 12500Bht per year, I figure 18 months and the cost of the system is recouped.

  15. Can anyone tell me of any companies who can install an alternative to TRUE and provide me with Premier league coverage and other English language channels here in Pattaya, I know some of the bars in town show it via Malaysia, Indonesia or South Africa, True are cutting the BBC Entertainment channel from their line up and want to look for alternatives so I can tell them where to stick their dish.

i havnt heard that they are cutting entertainment ,if so they are gone.

on June 1st, BBC entertainment is history as is Animax and Soundtrack channel.

its to be replaced with Sports Network, AXN Beyond and Nickelodeon

where did you here this ,as they are still advertizing bbc entertainment in their brochures

They are putting it up in English and Thai every few hours on the BBC Entertainment channel and also are sending out messages if you have a decoder that receives them, I sent a message to True Customer service via their website and got back a reply appologising for the change but no reasons why, I did suggest that they could add on a BBC Package like they do with Disney,HBO and Discovery but do they really care I doubt it.

  16. On a sombre note, some info please. Was told last night ( maybe bar-room bullsh*t ) that even if you are a long term resident here, if you die here without being married you cannot be cremated here and the British Embassy steps in, takes over and your body is shipped back to UK. Is this the case ? Any info please....not that I am planning on shuffling off just yet !!!

It is complete Bullsh*t, a friend of mine fell from his balcony and died at view Talay last year, he was seperated from his wife in the UK, but she was still his next of kin, the embassy in Bangkok gave her a list of undertakers in the UK who deal with companies in Thailand, she contacted one who arranged his cremation here and offered to ship the remains back to the UK, so unless things have changed just make sure that your wishes are known to your family back home, another option maybe leaving your body to medical research, I knew a Thai man who died before Christmas who did this and saved his family the cost of a funeral, don't know if they want Farang bodies though?

    .

  17. So if normal Thai TV are showing the games is there any alternative to getting english commentary? :D

Believe it or not, if u push the little ? Mark button on year ubc remote , u should be able to access the English

I was living here 2 years before i worked that out :D:)

Have we all forgotten the last Worid cup and Euro coverage here? Thai tv get the rights to these events like the BBC and ITV in the UK, and they didn't pay extra for the English commentry and so pressing the little button on the UBC remote got you at best the noise of the crowd only, there was lots of discussion at the time in the BKKpost and the Nation newspapers but it changed nothing.

  18. I'll be coming down from the sticks for a few days next week.

Is Pattaya busy at the moment?

Does anyone know of any good deals at the moment for a hotel near the entertainment (Soi,7,8), possibly with a pool?

Probably on a budget of about 800Bt a night.

Do-able or am I kidding myself?

    Thanks

My mate is paying 690 Bht at the skaw beach hotel Soi skaw beach off 2nd rd 3-4 mins walk from Soi 7-8 at the moment, he did haggle them down from 780 Bht, it's got a pool and the Soi isn't too noisy

  20. Yes, Truevisons (UBC) are to cancel BBC Entertainment from 1st June, according to the ticker at the top of the BBC Entertainment channel's screen.

Nice of them to give one months notice.

Time to look at cable alternatives since BBC Entertainment was the best channel they had.

Some of the stuff I watch used to watch:

    Spooks

    Judge John Deed

    Silent Witness

    Waking The Dead

    Dr Who

    Life On Mars

    etc.

    Bye-bye True. Hello P2P.

What's P2P? does anyone have any information on other sattelite broadcasters that we can get access to here in Thailand, I know some of the bars in Pattaya get their football from either Malaysia or Indonesia, anyone have any info as I will be telling True where to stick there poxy dish as soon as possible.

  21. There are much more expensive restaurants in Pattaya, what's the big deal? Its not an everyday thing except for rich people or two week millionaires. Haven't you ever had a splurge? Nobody is making anyone spend more than 30 baht for a meal here, its a choice. Next ...

Just love you Yanks, see you every morning sitting in Starbucks spending 100 Bht on a coffee, and as for 1000 Bht on Brazilian Kebabs outstanding. Next......

  22. Pherhaps the Thai Tourist Authority can bring back the Amazing Thailand television promotion that they were using last year, but this time show the footage of the various coloured shirts running around waving the national flag trying to prove who is the more patrioric Thai and not giving a <deleted> about their image around the world, and lets face it, why should a piss poor farmer from Issan care about tourists anyway? , even if all this bull***t about free rooms is true it's not going to have any impact on the number of tourists comming to Pattaya, TAT have been encouraging the really big spending Asian and Eastern European tourists lately anyway, you know the ones who come on prepaid package tours and are herded around like sheep from tacky tourist attraction to cheap shopping mall, stop the traffic on beach road for 5 minutes and then wander up and down walking street all night buying copy T-shirts, I personally couldn't care less if this low season dies a death, maybe it will thin out the over the top number of bars overcharging for drinks, and knock some sense into some of the GoGo and Coyote dancers who are trying to bring Bangkok prices to Pattaya, but as I drove past the new 24 hour MC'D on 2nd rd last night and they are building another beer bar complex next to it, I guess not.
