I think casinos would/will be disastrous for Thailand.

I have been told by several Thai acquaintances that a lot of Thai people don't make even the simplest financial plan and have poor foresight with respect to financial matters.

My experience with Thai people, although limited, bears this out.

I think this would mean financial ruin for some Thais.

Same is true in the west I guess, for most the casino is just occasional diversion, tempered by financial reality, but some end up losing the house.

Singapore don't allow their residents to even access the casino. Same policy for Thailand and problem solved. Lucrative business for Thailand.

I have something like that in my office. I'm happy to pay ~150 baht/m for that so maybe I just get myself another one for the dongle and not worry about it for a year.

If you've got the balance, there's 15mbps unlimited data for 200 baht/month by dialing *777*9026*009897# or 20mbps unlimited data for 300 baht/month by dialing *777*9127*009897# with both options allowing for tethering, meaning one can skip home internet expenses altogether.

True have slightly better deals, so you might wanna drop by a 7-11 and get one of their sim cards to check for signal quality etc before making purchases.

  3. I was in the same situation as OP before corona broke out. I was holding a freshly stamped SETV from the Embassy in Hanoi and after 9 months of stay in the Kingdom I ran searches on Thai Visa and decided to fly into CNX.

I was quite nervous at the queue for immigration check, but to my surprise everything was really smooth and I was stamped in real quick.

Fun fact: I was almost denied boarding that same midnight on my way to BKK as I had celebrated my arrival a bit too much and the staff made me sit next to them on the plane to DMK.

  4. Plenty of 10-20mbps unlimited monthly plans for 200-300 baht on Shopee. If DTAC just run a search of "20mbps dtac unlimited" and search for activation codes looking at pictures of the reviewers. Speed might drop a bit during peak hours occasionally but pretty consistent otherwise.

1mbps at 350 baht sounds like an outright scam to me. Can choose true or ais too.

  5. Hello, I don't know how to proceed. Phuket city accepted refund of 3 swabs for a trip that was cancelled in July 2021 but to date they haven't provided any and they ceased communication even if I go through the refund procedure again using another email.

They started claiming that there were problems with the 2c2p platform where the qr payment was made through Krungsri bank by a friend who lives in Thailand and after pushing them for months they ran out of excuses and started ignoring my emails. They have receipt and even front page of passbook as per they request.

I don't know if a lawyer will end up costing more than the 7200 they promised to refund initially, but I am in Thailand now and I might go that route if needed.

The fact that they are deceiving people into believing that they are providing refunds is frightening. I would discourage everyone against giving Phuket City one single cent.

  6. The Philippines reopens to double vaxxed from quite a few countries including Thailand just in case. Visa waiver for most Euros 30 days extendable for 30 more upon arrival at the airport.

I personally will go either there or SG depending on overall expenses. Accomodation in SG is very expensive so a round trip to PH might be better if no land border crossing is not allowed by mid March. The dream situation of course would be the reopening of the Malaysian or Laotian land borders for an old-school border run.

Thank you for your comment. I don't know Bolt at all, I'm going to have a look.

One other thing annoying in Thailand: aliens are not allowed to pay with Grab wallet like in Malaysia, you're forced to use cash.

I'd swear I had my prepaid visa linked for a while on Grab with visa conversion rates. Also, Aliens can and do manage to open bank accounts in Thailand even visa exempt. I don't know the benefits of Grab Wallet, but the above is already enough for most.

That said, cash and meter is usually cheaper and there's never shortage of taxis around. I save Grab for when there's a nice voucher or for emergencies eg no cash left or the odd late night Khaosan ride back to avoid the mafia.

  8. I got my Thailand pass stating an intended 30 days of stay and didn't buy any return ticket. Pre-corona there were horror stories of people being rejected entry based on no return ticket or lack of cash to show to the immigration officer. Now I would be very surprised if they got picky about those things. I'd tell them that I'm planning on extending my 30 day visa exemption a further 30 days and perhaps do so more than once before I book a trip to Malaysia or Vietnam. This time I see the honest way to be the best course of action since they definitely need people to go there, stay there and spend there.

If immigration officer doesn't want to allow that for whatever reason, I am ready to book a cheap ticket out on the spot (Malaysia, Cambodia, the cheapest). I find this scenario to be extremely unlikely though.

Apparently not, even if they tested negative they would be taken for 10 days quarantine according to Richard Barrow..........

I’m onboard THAI Airways flight from London to Bangkok. About 100 people on this flight today. No-one sitting next to me which is good as the new rule is, if someone on your immediate left or right tests positive, you must go to hospital for ten days. Even if you tested negative.

    https://twitter.com/RichardBarrow/status/1455865363246223360

Wouldn't you be technically closer to the passanger/s behind you than to those immediately left and right when laid back or are you forced to lay flat plus muzzle during the whole flight?

I just booked my one night with private transfer from airport and PCR test for 6500. Luckily my flight gets in at 6am so I can get my test early and the result the next morning. My deal comes with a full refund if your PCR test before travel is positive and a full refund if you cancel 7days prior to booking date.

What I was most worried about was there being enough hotel rooms which are able to cater for quarantining passengers, it would seem that there are plenty right now and more hotels are starting to apply. If you can get the type of deal above, I would seriously book it now because with the refund stipulations as they are, you really have a lot to gain and much to loose. Imagine if you were all booked, visa in hand and ready to rock but there were no hotels with quarantine credentials or there were but at astronomical prices. Another worry is they wouldn't have the available staff to go to all the hotels to do the tests.

Noah built the ark before the rain. Chok dee krap ????

Is private transfer mandatory? No Airport Link or MRT allowed not even Grab? I was planning on going all the way to a hotel near Chinatown by public transportation. Getting there and being forced to book an overpriced transfer on the spot wouldn't be a great start.

  11. There will be 46 countries with a reservation at SHA+ hotel for one night and 50k insurance covering corona hospitalization, negative RT-PCR 72h prior to departure and another one on arrival. Whoever got tickets can skip the sandbox. Basically all of Europe but Romania and Turkey is there plus USA and Canada so let's hope everything is Gazetted soon.

  12. So let me get this straight. The US government is donating vaccines to a country where a substantial chunk of US expats reside and they don't get priority over the rest of the population? I almost can't believe this. And then there is that law that force you to keep paying taxes there even if you are an expat elsewhere am I right? Dammit they've got you by the balls there... not cool.

and prepaid receipt covering the 3 Covid tests needed in Phuket.

Thanks DFPhuket for the heads-up. After reading other up-to-date posts on this forum I thought that the cost of the 3 mandatory C19 tests were supposed to be added to the hotel bill. Perhaps that's not been confirmed officially but any update on that is welcome.

  14. You can just show your Irish passport for hassle-free entry, no covid certificate nor pcr test needed if traveling directly from UK, but your wife would need to apply for a visa to enter Schengen if she only holds Thai passport. Whatever visa she's got for entering the UK is not valid in the European Union as the UK has already left Schengen and Thailand is not among the countries whose nationals married to UE passport holders are allowed to cross external EU borders without a valid visa (those would have 90 days exemtion in a 180-day period).

So I'd advise you to contact the Spanish embassy in London to initiate the visa application for your spouse else she'll be denied boarding.
