  1. Hi Glegolo

I live on Phuket. Sandbox is, as of now, still running.

There are certainly more people around my area of Chrngtalay but other parts of the Island are very quiet indeed.

It is true that a lot of businesses on the Island are closed. All bars are closed but restaraunts are open, but not allowed to sell alcohol. That is not to say you can not find alcohol if you know where to look!!

And of course we are in rainy season. It has not stopped raining all day today but we do get some sun most days.

It all depends on what you are looking for on your "vacation".

That is not to say things could change - we are averaging over 100 COVID cases per day this week so if things do get worse you never know.

Most locals have been vaccinated but only with Sinovac.

Message me if you want to know anything else

I heard they vaxed just about everyone there as well, but still spreading, interesting.

The trouble is that they vaxed all the locals with Sinovac which, if reports are correct, becomes much less efective after a few months. 81 cases reported yesterday alone. I really can't understand why anyone would risk coming here at the moment unless it is just to "get back in to Thailand".

My appointment for Sinovac is tomorrow but lots of news regarding medical workers getting Covid even though they have received both Sinovac jabs, I've now cancelled and hopefully another different Vaccine will become available soon, I have no problem paying should that be the case.

Good luck Badrabbit. Mine was for tomorrow but have decided not to go ahead.

    Cheers

Post is correct, puket is special because of sandbox. every body has to be vaccinated including expats, phuket is the exception, the rest of Thailand for expats forget it.

Sorry Dunroamin but Phuket seems to have run out of vaccine for now and there are a lot of us expats still waiting for even news of our fist jab

As others have said it's a temporary status displayed while they wait for new vaccines to arrive.  When that happens you will be able to make an appointment using gray button on the phuket.win site.  Check the site as often as you wish, but twice a day is certainly not excessive.  Don't rely on being contacted by SMS, doesn't happen in the vast majority of cases.  You have to be proactive and check yourself rather than passively wait for an SMS.

Thanks guys for all your help

They've run out of vaccines...for now.  I almost had an appointment but there was a screw up with my passport.  Now no vaccines.  I'm hoping that they will have some more soon.  But now that the Sandbox is open I'm not sure what they will do.   Keep checking the website, maybe 1x in morning and 1x in  afternoon.

    Thanks for that

When I had that screen, prior to my first jab via "Phuket Must Win", it basically meant my registration for a vaccine was received, but there was no appointment yet made.  So I was given a 'fully booked' indicator.  I registered on a weekend, and on the Monday the web page changed, I ended up getting an appointment.  I never received an SMS.

My guess is dependent on vaccine availability, and maybe other factors (such as one's age) may come into play, that it could be some days before an appointment is made.

Thanks for this - guess I will just have to wait and go back online every day or so to see if anything changes.

Am under 60 and healthy so guess I am not at the front of the queue!!

    Cheers

  8. Hi Guys

Not sure if this has already been covered but...

Trying to book a vaccine appointment.

Entered on the grey "Vaccination Appointments for Foreigners"

    Entered details.

Got this below my personal details:

    image.png.a1e1479032a8b31d836563f0e51afc58.png

Can't see anything that refers to an appointment or how to book.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Waste of money for the OP. NUC are not good value. The OP hasn't asked for a mini solution, so what is the reason for pushing such an inadequate system?

This thread has lost it's way.

Not helpful when the OP comes out with statements such as " but looks like it will be at least 12K to get everything together" without any indication of how he got to that figure.

Thanks for your help - NOT!!!

    what is your budget ?
one thing to note is they need a camera and microphone for online learning
another thing which i think is extremely important
if you are going to give a child a computer, be sure to install a net nanny
i am using Kaspersky safe kids and find it good for its purpose ($14.99)
not to avoid sex predators etc
but just to prevent the kid becoming a brain dead drone by getting hooked on the tonnes of cr4p out there if the kid is left to their own devices which is likely to happen
DM me if you want any more info

    Hi Patman

Did not have a budget figure but looks like it will be at least 12K to get everything together

Agree that an inexpensive Optiplex is the way to go. The AIO suggested by clearance is fit only for the bin; a total waste of money.

The Mini PC..... is not even in Thailand. I don't know what they are thinking.

Typical example: https://www.nextstepreborn.co.th/desktop-th/คอมมือสอง-nextstep-Dell-Optiplex-3050-Sff-i3-gen-case-TH Put a cheap SSD in as a Boot drive.

No PC is coming full of software packages unless they are stolen.

Likely same company on Lazada: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pc-dell-3050-sff-i3-gen6-ram-4-gb-hdd-500-gb-i2187476787-s7335644959.html

Here's an example with an SSD already fitted; but ridiculously easy to do yourself. SSD(solid state drive) is a MUST. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pc-dell-optiplex-3050-sff-i3-gen-6-m2-256-gb-i1662504349-s4635946626.html

If future proofing is desired; then some with a 7th Gen Intel CPU is recommended: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/dell-optiplex-3050-i5gen7-ram4gb-hdd1tb-i1814860854-s5432770333.html though you'll still need to add an SSD, from around 500 baht.

Either way; it can be done for just a few thousand baht. If I was on Phuket I would happily put it all together for you; but I am far away. Surely there is someone on the board in Phuket who can assist.

Thanks for all the info Eindhoven

Op, you may want to enquire to your maids children's school, as they may have subsidised, discounted, an agreement with a supplier etc, computers for students to purchase. Also they can advise on required software etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Thai gov has some sort of program to assist poor students to get a computer.

    Hi Petr

Talking to the school first is a great idea.

You can get a reconditioned optiplex from lazada for 3K

I have one here which I can donate, the PSU seems to have died, you can pick a s/h one for around 500B.

    Hi Recom

Thanks for the kind offer, but I am on Phuket so a bit far to come and pick it up!!

Thanks for the tip about Lazada, hate that company but will check it out.

My last PC was HP and although it was a basic model, it was fully kitted out and only cost around 12,000 baht at the time, this from Power Buy. They do have specials on occasionally, so maybe worth a look if there is one nearby.

And also before I forget, well done on this kind gesture.

Get the AIO (all in one PC), HP AIO 21-b0108d (22U42AA) for example (it is a bit slow, but sure enough to learn from home)

A bit faster solution Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 3-22ADA05-F0EX0096TA. Just google the models and will show you Thai shops where you can order it.

Oh, I missed that you have peripherals already, get something like T-Bao TBOOK MN27 AMD Ryzen7 2700U 8GB DDR4 256GB NVME SSD. Google: Ryzen based Mini PC, or Intel based Mini PC, just look for specs, preferable to have Ryzen CPU and at least 8GB of RAM.

This one on Lazada for example (not sure if it is allowed to link it here)

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/local-warranty-maibenben-4k-minipc-amd-ryzen-5-pro-2500u-ryzen-5-3450u-amd-radeon-vega-8-8g-ram-ddr4-nvme-ssd-win-10-hdmi-compatible-dp-output-24g5g-wifi-bluetooth-amd-mini-pc-ryzen-mini-cpu-free-shipping-pc34-pc25-i2176672487-s7228292850.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.1.93183746wUxUF9&search=1&freeshipping=1

Thanks Clearance, that is a great help.

  16. Hi Guys

I want to buy a desktop computer for my maid so her kids can do schoolwork online.

Just need the base unit as I have a spare moinitor / keyboard etc.

Any recommendation on what to buy with all the standard software packages already installed and where to buy?

Despite working with them most of my life I know very little about computers!!

    Appreciate the help

    Cheers
