  1. I came here for a holiday in 2006, at the time I was a researcher at Sun Micro. I liked it so much I went back to the states, quit my job and started searching.

I identified a busness that needed my skill set, took the VP of Ops out to dinner and told him I would do pretty much anything he needed, but I had to live in Thailand. Three months later I was here managing the APAC region for a small telecom company. I travel a lot but Banglamung is home. Couldn't be happier.

  2. You will need to get the permission to stay extension and work permit before you can get the duty free import of your stuff.

    TH

You mention a work permit. I have been here a while but wouldn't mind shipping some stuff here (about 1/2 a small container) but don't have a work permit, only a Non-Immigrant O visa (marriage).

Also - any preferences for container companies?

  3. Good point Soutpeel man..

...depends on whether software or hardware/combo , price point of product, quota etc etc..IT sales is application selling and would require a good deal of engineering expertise, sales and negotiation skills, selling from engineering level through upper management. Most high ticket project sales would include hefty incentive plans...better get hired out of Europe or NA... salaries are all over the map and my knowledge is out of date but you should be looking at US60k-US120k pa plus incentive, car allowance, expenses etc depending on what you have to offer potential employers...good luck.

But now that I've read in other posts here that companies in Thailand don't pay western salaries

That is not strictly true, it depends on the company and the industry, there are many expats working in Thailand who are on western + salaries in Thailand

Well that certainly begs the question - which companies? Any in telecom? I get paid in USD right now and I hate taking a pay cut every year as the dollar drops...

  4. Wow! Thanks! :o

    Problem solved (probably)

I could not find a consulate here on the internet, and a local who has lived here all her life told me that there wasn't one.

I have gotten 2 visas for india since I moved to thailand and foreign nationals cannot get a visa in less than 5 working days. Ostensibly it is to check with Interpol and such to see if you are a good guy. I have found it generally true that foreign nationals must always wait for a visa...
