  1. I have seen one up close & it is beautiful !

As expected just a beautiful form following function example.

Would love to own one but would never buy one here

Even at 750k baht / $23,500 USD Can't justify the price not to mention I would

always be worried it was being stolen at the condo wink.pngsmile.png

I think it's natural for guys to compare prices to their home countries, for me I compared this to the UK price and it's almost the same (about 12,500 GBP in the UK and 749,000 is 13,600 GBP so it's about 1000 pounds difference, but I am getting the Termi slipons included so it's about the same. I can live with that especially considering how much more fun I can have with this bike in Thailand compared to the number of speed cameras and terrible weather in the UK.

Given the cost of road tax, insurance, gas, servicing in the UK I'm pretty sure it will be cheaper for me to own this bike in Thailand over the course of 3 years.

Also resale value is better in Thailand than in UK which is another positive way to look at it.
  2. I gave up on that office after tree trips with answers like "a farang can not get a drivers license in Thailand". I ended up with getting it in Pattaya. Then i went to Sa kaeo to renew and they insisted it had to be fake, and back to Pattaya to renew. Last renewal i went strait to Pattaya.

ok thanks for that local info. was wondering if you actually needed to have an address in the same province as where you get the licence so obviously not. thanks again.

yes there is a significant amount of obfuscation from significant segments of the population in this region.

but could be a language issue in this case.

I got both my bike and car licence from SaKeao no problems and have had them renewed. Went to Aranyaprathet immigration to get my papers from there and went in to SaKeao driving school at 8am the following morning was out by 10am with my renewed licence same process as Pattaya.
  3. received some reliable information recently that Yamaha is releasing r6 next year in Thailand!

they will release it with the next motorshow during November,2014 or the moto expo during March, 2015.

prices are estimated between 520 k thb to 600 k thb.

same source also stated that we might see kawasaki zx10r and zx636 here as well within a couple of years.

so, things are getting more serious in Thailand finally.

if they sell yamaha r6 here around 550 k thb, it will be a great seller but if higher than 6000 k th, it might put people off as the price difference will not be much - around 150 k - with yamaha r1.

still, i take this as good news! hope what they say is true.

yamaha already sold the R6 here in Thailand but did not sell as well as the average buyer would rather pay the extra for an R1. I only know this as I used to own an R6 here and it was difficult to get one I did plenty research.

  4. A couple of days ago YL told the public not to worry as there wasn't a problem with flooding and that there wouldn't be.

Now the ever efficient and decisive PM / Defence Minister has ordered the military out to help deal with this non-existent problem.

Time for another inter-galactic trip to which ever planet it is she lives on.

She was probably refering to the area she lives in, like most in the goverment they are only looking out for their best interests.

  5.

Compaired to my home country I paid less than 50% import tax on sportsbike in Thailand.

    Really? What bike?

The bike I just bought R1.

OK the R1 from RedBaron, at circa 7xx,xxx baht?

Surprising that's 50% less import tax than another country. But even if it is - it doesn't really justify the cost in Thailand IMO. As I've said before, given the traffic problems here I would have thought they'd encourage people to move to motorbikes rather than giving discounts on more cars. Of course this logic only applies if you're trying to fix the real issues rather than line your own pockets whilst in power so it might not apply here.

Yeah thats the one, I totally agree with the import tax being over the top and another way to make money but we as buyers have little choice either buy it and accept it or just leave it, but now living here in Thailand I am comfortable to pay the extra £'s more for a bike I would be lucky enough to ride a quarter of the year due to the weather in my home country and where I stay in Thailand I can enjoy the open road and the bike the majority of the year.

  6. Where did you get them from? I can get from the UK as got some family coming over next month.

I did drop it the last day I had it there are a few scratches on the fairing and engine casing. No plans for the sliders but may consider them now as I am at work and always looking for things to buy. smile.png

Plan on getting frame sliders? Every R6 and R1 i saw in California that went down had a cracked left side engine casing.

btw, your old R6 looks awesome ! love that color.

I've got the Yoshimura no-cut frame sliders coming next week for my bike- they're probably the best of the bunch- I'm sure they make a set for the R1.

  8. Yeah it is in very good condition and only done 9000k,

That is my old bike yes just serviced it before I traded it in. Might even buy it back if its still there in a few months if I dont buy a sports car first.

    Very nice R6 example wink.png

  9. I would agree that the 600 feels faster and is more fun compaired to the 1000 but will have more time on it next month when home to try the bike in mode setting A opposed to the standard one I was using, That is my old bike yes just serviced it before I traded it in. Might even buy it back if its still there in a few months if I dont buy a sports car first.

Just had the bike now near 1 month and covered 1000km. Would like to give you that update.

My first impressions was why did I change would have been better staying with the R6 but the more I ride the bike the more I see why its better.

What you said about wondering why you changed was exactly how I felt when I switched from 600 to open too.
Although unlike you I never did get to a point where I thought the open class bike was better.
I appreciated it more on longer rides for sure mainly because of the naturally less buzz to it.

But overall? I always felt faster on a 600 than a liter/open if the ride was anything but longer straighter roads.
Could Brake later, get on the gas sooner, carry higher corner speeds it was all better on the 6 for me.
Anything up to 130 mph I was better off on the 600

Funny too because back then they were quite equal in weight.

PS: Is this your old R6?

  10. I use arai rx7 cost around 22,000 personally if you go at speeds over 80kph I would buy something of high standard IMO. I like my arai it fits snug and has air vents which you can feel the air pass through your helmet and over your head.

  11. To be honest it has crossed my mind to go and get the R6 also but will just stick to one.

The steering is great more feel than with the R6 and is smooth round the corners.
