I hear you regarding the polution, it definately affects some...............I lived in the city for a few years (2007-2010) and as crazy as this might sound, I never really thought anything of the polution. I could feel my nose burning slightly in April while driving the bike on seriously hot days and would see the fires on the mountain ridges whilst approaching the city on long drives up from BKK, but I was more concerned about the pool being hotter than bath water!! I gotta say, that then, only a few years ago, I never noticed it talked about much with the expats or locals...............Just saying, from my perspective it wasn't a biggie and I can't wait to get back there, and 'yes' I will be going on holiday in April coz the pool's too hot............!

Just because you never thought anything of the pollution doesn’t mean it didn’t affect you!

your nose was burning? That’s ok????

poor air quality- pollution is not something that kills overnight!

I surely hope you understand that???

it affects everyone, you seem oblivious to this as many are!

many places to spend time with clean air!

myself and many friends left because I’ll health effects.

another businessman trying to downplay the situation perhaps???

    ????????????????‍♂️????????????‍♂️????

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You raise good points. May I ask in which neighborhood you saw that low occupancy rate?

I've seen the same low occupancy in central Bangkok recently. Lack of tourism really butchered the rental market, and there's tons of condos for sale. Supply is vast and demand is low. It's a buyers market right now.

I'm aware rents have dropped. Please note I'm not interested in getting quick yield/cashflows. I'm willing to wait a year or two for things to return normal again. In fact, I'm not even sure I want to rent it out, as I might want to live there myself, even if it's a few months per year.

Don’t think it’s easy to rent out a condo, there are 10s of thousands for rent or sale, I believe 25,000 in pattaya and 100,000 in bangkok

I would certainly think your capital being invested would bring much more income. -and your money is in your bank in your country.
for the sake of living there for only a few months a year????????????

I would strongly suggest you sit down and give this serious thought!

Getting everyone vaccinated is an impossibility and it will take many, many months to vaccinate a large proportion of the population. You think schools should remain closed for many months? I'm guessing you don't have kids?

Yes, it will take a long long time.

if they hadn’t waited till the last minute they wouldn’t be in this situation .
im sorry to hear you would put your child’s health at risk by sending them to school. Sad

there was an outbreak in a northerly community in Canada where 235 , mainly children were infected.

It it was your choice to raise a family in a third world country!

didn’t turn out so well now did it!

Thank you for your comment, but with due respect, what type of insurance do you suggest - health/medical, accident or travel?

If you are referring to health, then in my case this is not possible being a Type 2 insulin dependent diabetic. Over many years (27) I was recommended on many occasions to take up health insurance but I was always refused (in Thailand and the UK) when I mentioned diabetes. No problems for personal accident insurance which I had for several years through Bangkok Bank before relocating to Cambodia. Fortunately I receive 3 pensions from which I fund all the medication and medical tests I require, previously Government Hospitals in Thailand and now private pharmacies and clinics in Cambodia. My pensions also provide "part" self insurance from savings. I cannot get accident or Covid-19 insurance in Cambodia as I am too old (77 years).

It’s nice to see you have adequate coverage, those that don’t should not be there and find themselves in a bad situation.

I was running in the mountains 3 days a week, and cycling 20km the other days.

At age 62/63 BPH and probably cancer got me, so I can't do any of those now.

I wish I hadn't wasted my time with the exercise, and should have drunk, smoked and taken more drugs.

Not to sound like a smartass, and with all respect, could the pollution of Chang mai have something to do with it? I left shortly after health problems. Writing was on the wall.

I would expect those who have been working normally to have built up some savings during Covid restrictions.

Many people have not missed a beat, others in the service industry have no doubt been hit hard.

the CIBC bank in Canada said they have never seen so much money in their system. This is one bank.

many people have hardly spent any money in the last 2 years and are ready now that things are opening.

european vacations are at the forefront as well as home country holidays.

asia is at least a year behind, because of lack of forward thinking, and inept governments.several friends are planning a European vacation late summer.

    Well.....it's all happening in Vietnam.

For those not informed, since approx 1st April, Vietnam started rejecting the vast majority of rolling business visas and a very large number of tourist visas. People who are trying to do new work permits to change jobs or get new jobs are ALSO being rejected.

The vast majority of those whose visa has been 'flagged' are being asked to leave the country within 15 days on an exit visa (which costs additional fees). Its basically a mass deportation. The deportees largely consist of retirees, digital nomads, workers whose workplace 1. improperly processed work permits or 2. didnt do it at all, or 3. used a dodgy agent to process (all unbelieveably common).

It is quite likely that once all is said and done, Vietnam will lose 75% of foreigners living in situ by around August this year. Hundreds and hundreds have already left (no choice really) just in the past few weeks alone.

There remains no official Government announcement aside from "Those who entered Vietnam - specifically those after March 2020 - on a tourist visa have been granted an extra month stay"  Aside from that, no official notice at all.  It was just a decision made and executed.

What does this mean? The takeaway is, for the next few years, it is quite likely that Vietnam will be totally out of the question for anyone who doesn't fit the following 2 criteria.

    1. A tourist staying 30 days or less

2.An expert worker, with a minimum of a Bachelor Degree, 3 years+ verified experience in the field for the job in question outside of Vietnam (that can be formally verified).

In short, it has become very very very expat unfriendly in a very short space of time.

When the economic refugees, digital nomads, visa runners ,those on sketchy visas, no work permits were kicked out of Thailand, they looked next door for the easy visa requirements., etc. People were living on tourist visas, fake companies were started to give shady work permits, Americans took advantage of the 1 year business visa with no intention of pursuing any business. So called teachers were entering and working with no degrees. THESE are the people that are being denied visas. I don’t know of any country that allows people to stay, work without proper visas , work permits etc. Or try to live on tourist visas.
those that have entered legally, with proper visas from REAL companies, those with proper degrees, those that have legitimate businesses, are more than welcomed!
no different than ANY other countries in the world!

thailand , didn’t want these types, and neither does Vietnam, nor does any other country! best wishes to those leaving and good luck in your next destinations
