Yes but still involves a visit by my wife to the Amphur and then a trip to immigration. After the trip I will not feel safe going back to her family home where we stay as there are children and older relations there. Will need to go to a hotel instead. I have already lost my job in Australia which I was meant to start in mid April.

There are many folk genuinely stuck here.
There are soooo many using it as an excuse. I travel a lot and often meet young backpackers. Many times I have heard..." great we can milk this for few months"
Mind you that was before to all the closures and now curfew Phuket.
Bkk to follow.
Quatar just announced reopen many flights to OZ. Yes only one country but there are flights out.
The governments were advising all nationalities fly home NOW. Couple weeks back
I had planned to go back to Australia in late April. I had a job organized. Due to the virus my job has fallen through. When I arrive I would need to stay in a hotel room for 2 weeks. Regardless I thought of going back now because of the visa situation but the cheapest flight was around $900 Australian Dollars and was 30 hours travelling instead of the usual $300 AUD and 8 hours. The problem is more that the airlines are taking advantage of people's misfortunes to make money and the visa inflexibility is increasing the problem. The thought of being shafted whichever way I turn is not a happy one.

Hi Joe. My problem is we are not in the same Amphur we were married in. I could but it will be hard for her to travel there.

Seal the tank openings.
Yes. They must be getting in somewhere which shouldn't be happening. For health reasons it should be a sealed environment.

I think you’ll find that air conditioning actually removes moisture. That’s sort of how it works. Or do you mean on the other side, i.e. the moisture is just pumped elsewhere?I would
I just thought that a closed environment like an air conditioned shopping centre would have more moisture from people breathing than out in the open.

Just dealing with the facts but yes I suggested this possible plan way back when the case numbers froze at 35.I’m just taking the p!ss out of the weather theory, some are suggesting the reason for the numbers not going up was because of the heat and humidity but I think the Thais feel it it now safe to start releasing a few more case numbers because the numbers is what is 100% under control not the virus. The virus was never under anybodies control.
Bacterial and virus travel from one person to the other via moisture in the air. If there is no moisture in the air it is harder for it to transfer. That is why when it is cold and raining people get colds etc. I have trouble telling but where I am it seems to be hot and not overly humid which hopefully will cut down on infections. Naturally air conditioning in public places creates lots of moisture in the air which would be a great environment for transfer.

I thought it was a Thai monitor lizard. I have seen them near the beach in Banglamung. I thought it lived in the fountain at Avenue.

OP quoted delays due to queues/document verification ... i understand all that ... and i guess the application of more time will resolve his problem ... but your 'blocked' sounds a little more sinister.
I plan to marry in Thailand later this year and have done a bit of research so familiar with need for Thai-translated versions of prior marriage/divorce/single declaration etc (it's same sort of deal for marriage in Oz) ... but a heads-up on any non-procedural barriers would be welcome.
Can you or someone else share some examples of other reasons that a particular district office would decline to handle a marriage application?
Or is it like the visa environment? some individual officials deciding "computer says no" ?
And finally ... it's implied in the posts above, but am i right to assume that shopping around amphurs would not be a problem, not tied to resident's local office?
I tried Chonburi and they wanted to send the documents back to Bangkok for verification (even though they had already been verified at M.F.A.) When the documents were returned they wanted to interview me to see if I was a suitable husband I guess. She rang several Amphurs but they were similar. A visa agent in Pattaya offered to take me to BKk for 6000 baht for the ceremony taking 4 or so days to organize it. There is supposedly a friendly Amphur in BKK that with a little persuasion will organise a same day ceremony. If you research online you should be able to find out how and where. A very friendly translation agent in Wireless Rd(the last one on the corner of a little soi)suggested to go out of town. We went to Trat and they wanted to interview a member of her family and when we brought the family member there they changed their minds and said we needed to make an appointment. They organized for us to go straight to a small Amphur near Trat but they rang us the same day and said they were too busy so come back next week. Time was running out so in the end we managed to get it all done at a small island off the coast. Took a few days waiting till the director came there to sign the forms.

There is a very useful site 24 hour DIY marriage in Thailand or something similar. Maybe some advice there could help you speed up the marriage process. I know some agents can take care of the whole thing rather quickly for you as well.

I think that genuine tourists are always welcome, whether they are Westerners or Chinese or Arabs. What they seem to deeply dislike in the last several years are the cheap sexpats, older frugal western retirees living in villages, english teachers whose sole qualification is being a white skinned caucasian with dodgy credentials, digital nomads ekeing out a living etc
Can still only do 2 land border crossings a year. Makes it harder to go back and forth.

Koh Kong's Hat Lek border has been taking 150 baht for fake health checks since the SARS epidemic. They must be happy. Now they can increase their price.

If they wanted to make a statement they should just refuse to join the other parties and be expelled as well. Internationally it would create more questions about a government where a large percentage of the parliament have been expelled and if they join the new parties they would be in minority with little power. Maybe by abstaining they could send a message but I guess parliamentary salaries are too good.

My wife has a small guesthouse on one of the islands. We have been business as usual until this week. Now nearly empty when last year our high season ended in late March. I compared this year's bookings to last year and we are down 50% for March. I am thinking that people in the West who already had bookings kept them as travel insurance will not cover change of mind due to the virus, but those who had not booked weeks ago when the virus was first reported went somewhere else. It does not bother us much as we have had a good season so far and close in a few weeks but for others depending on people booking in low season it is a worry.

Useful website 'DIY 24 hour marriage Thailand's. It does say how to simplify the process with a few donations.

My understanding is the wife can keep her maiden name if she wants to. My wife kept here maiden name because of all the property, credit cards, autos in her name that she ust would not have the time until she is retired to change it all.
Same. She had to change from her former married name(she was widowed)to get married to me. After getting new card and passport decided changing her name again was too much. Non-O based on marriage to a Thai at HCMC was all ok.

Hat Yai's full of them, but they're actually Thai-Chinese or Malaysian-Chinese.
After spending a large part of my life studying Asian girls I think it is possible to pick the different nationalities.

How people can rejoice at the economic hardship that this will cost the people here is staggering. The most effected by this are not the owners of boats, but the small independent traders that rely on low level passing trade to make enough to live on ok, pay school fees, and rent.
People should feel ashamed of themselves. Taking pleasure in another's hardship.
I'd say you are correct that the workers not the owners suffer. My guess is that Chinese companies own the boats employing Thai workers. Same with the massage shops and restaurants and hotels where you see the Chinese tour groups going in. They sell cheap tours and everything is "in house". Sure they employ Thais but the profits flow back to China not to the Thai economy so much. The effect of the virus makes it seem questionable whether the solo Chinese travellers are really coming in numbers. They have closed some cities but the free independent travellers are still free to come but don't seem to be there in great numbers. As to posters' reactions there seems to be a lot of ongoing anger at their treatment by Thai authorities (particularly immigration) and their encouragement of Chinese and Indians while they are continually making it harder for Westerners to stay long term, and the incompetence of the Pattaya authorities and their attempts to turn Pattaya into a "family destination".

Go back home if it's that bad.
It is a bit illogical. If two people get on the plane in China and one has no certificate and the virus and the other has a certificate and no virus by the end of the flight probably the virus would have spread throughout the plane. I doubt having a certificate is going to help the person newly infected on the plane to stop them spreading it.

A friend of mine was in Savannahket doing his non-o renewal based on marriage about 3 weeks ago. He told me that there was a person at the entrance gate checking all paperwork before they let you enter. He's been married to a Thai for almost 40 years and he told me that they had refused him entry because they wanted to see the paperwork from when his wife changed her maiden name to his family name.
I went through the non-o route several years ago before changing to the yearly extension and I certainly don't remember being asked to supply a document showing the name change.
Maybe Ubonjoe can clarify what the actual document is and if its a standard request?
I did at Ho Chi Minh in November. Wife has different name. No problem.

I found a really useful website thailand diy marriage in 24 hours or something similar. I am Australian and they do not issue divorce certificates . They give you a link and you download it from your government account. The Australian embassy just stamped it and I did not need an Australian notary. I took my documents to Klong Toey mrt station and there is a government office there. I returned the next day and picked them up. It was easier than going to Chaeng Wattana. There were translators there but very expensive so I went to the ones in Wireless Rd near the Aus embassy.I went to Banglamung Ampur and they said it would take 4 weeks because they had to send them back to BKK and they wanted to question me about finances.Tried to pay extra and couldn't. Was advised to go somewhere remote and that worked
There is info on the website where to go and pay for quick service. My wife was widowed and she still used her ex husband's name. They would not accept this and she needed to change her if back to her maiden name

My Thai brother in law was a fall over drunk. He went to the temple and became a monk. He is still there 3 years later but hasn't had a drink since. I think they supported him through his troubles.
