Definite a poor idea to use a 2X4 for anything in Thailand. When I moved here I planned on building a great wood house like in the states. Termites are ravenous up here. Conwood or Shera would be the closest to wood that would work. I have seen Teak fall to termites up here & that is pretty hard wood. In fact we had a small amount of termites raid the underneath of our house & the only wood was a teak desk stored under the house half eaten. Cement or steel is what you use in Thailand(even though I am partial to wood- I hate re-doing things over & over.

Yeah I hear ya, I figured mold was the big issue and considered termites but didn't think of it as #1. I've seen numerous all teak homes down south and even entire villas made out of nothing but teak(rafters, walls, foundation), I wonder how those fellas get away with that.

Don't worry, they will be replaced by a roll of fencing wire twisted together.

It will work just fine and you will be able to sell the fancy clips on eBay.

My "roll of fencing wire twisted together" ceiling that I didn't really have in mind but will probably work just fine:

This comment is reassuring since I had literally just picked up 2 rolls of the stuff and skipped the clips

You might want to google metal stud framing before starting, as theres lots of diy vids on this

stud frame is infinitely better than wood. It’s very simple to use, and more versatile. A few years ago I did an internal room. I used heavy duty pop rivets. No worries... welding is not required.

Metal stud framing is a 2 by 4 metal alternative with the same principles as wood stud, so you can use your existing knowledge of that product, as it’s the most relevant experience... but it’s even easier.

Blue plastic sheet specifically designed to go between concrete floor and the floor plate should be all that is required.

If you are installing an RAC then it will remove humidity so the room will be subject to less humidity than one without.

Can you elaborate on what you mean for blue floor sheeting? Originally I had no intentions to do anything with floor other than leave it concrete for same level as outside small room. You mean to lay plastic BEFORE this slab was poured? I have no intentions of pouring more concrete...

The regular method for partitions here are with the cheap lightweight galvanised framing. I had a couple of interior walls that I may wish to remove in the future done this way; inexpensive and quick...

If you can get the timber cheaply it would be fine for 6 months so long as the termites stay out... Wood can be coated with chaindrite to make it less attractive to termites, but not nice stuff.

Thanks for the pics! This is likely my exact course of action with some metal screws and steel snips. I can always use a secondary stand or something if the cline that I use doesnt seem strong enough to hold an AC head unit. Perhaps the ceiling will make it ‘feel’ more structurally sound. 2x4 and termites dont sound logical to pursue as an option although it is the construction i’m most familiar with. Glad I asked first!

  7. Hello all, I have done some reading in this section about thai construction and most definitely understand the reason most build exterior and even interior walls with concrete.

I have a somewhat short term need for an interior wall and ceiling to house aircon head unit and retain temperature/humidity control, no i’m not growing ganja, this is in a small furniture warehouse and we need a controlled environment for a project that will be finished in 6-12mo time so I dont to put up cinderblocks like the thai employees have suggested we do 555.

Would anyone advise against 2x4 frame, drywall, and insulation like i’m used to in the US or is that a bad idea for obvious weather reasons? If I dont care about longevity is it still an issue? Maybe someone has a better short term construction suggestion:jap:

I have True right now, I would prefer to be on AIS of 3BB.  True is not as transparent about the public IP in that you don't have any official stated IP Public IP address available for there consumer packages (probably have it on enterprise packages).  I have tried to request one (but was not repeatedly insistent) they said they made the change but did not.  I could have tried again but since I have a host in Digital Ocean that I run my traffic to Singapore and then through a VPN from there ($5 month + bandwidth over a certain amount - I think 1TB) [I have better more consistent traffic doing it that way, and prime time throttling is not a factor that way - traffic dependent].  I find there routing for my office VPN though to be ... poor... it routes it bouncing around Europe and finally through the UK to North America (lower bandwidth; latency more of an issue).   In my own opinion, both AIS and 3BB are better (though I think 3BB is another that gives you by default a private IP address].

From talking to my colleagues i'm also under the general assumption that 3BB is better, although I dont know about the private ipv4. Can you explain your VPN situation a bit? This is only to reduce packet loss and the unstable connection? I want to route my traffic on one of my AP routers through my USA vpn so that devices connected like the smart TV and phone will pickup USA netflix, prime, hulu, etc. For games or p2p connections there would be an obvious downside with latency, but can you recommend a better way to do this or maybe elaborate on your choice for a singapore VPN?

  9. Please explain more to us non crash experts. Genuine question. What are the triggers you are seeing?

Can’t speak on a kingdom I am not long familiar with the history of, but basic economics and history of other housing bubbles would agree. I’d say mainly look at trends of mortgage interest rates, the obvious rise in prices, an abundance of unfilled buildings. Large scale demographic change is interesting in bangkok as well, in late 21st it was all expats looking for single bedroom rooms and that has been the trend since, but now demographic is shifting and all these massive projects are still building pigeon holes. I’d take the advice of others in this thread - rent rent rent.

yes..thats it...but mind you they are NOT cheap!!

Why is studying German "odd"...in Europe almost 100 million people speak German. That is more then English.

just saying. Sadly they are only availeble in Bangkok.

If you are an autodidact you can learn German online..there is a ton of material to find...mostly for free ranging from A1 even up to C2 level.

    good luck, Viel Glück!

    Hans

Considering I couldn't find any info for it on the forums I figured it wasn't an everyday question. Most Thai wives take foreign language classes in the prospective countries as opposed to their kingdom beforehand. And most ferang aren't trying to perfect their German while living in Thailand; They're much more inclined to be perfecting/learning the Thai language.

  11. I speak low level conversational German already as I was an exchange student some odd years ago, but now with a swiss/thai girlfriend and many german speaking friends in bangkok I feel myself wanting to take a few german modules to dust off what I already know. I'm not the type to dedicate time with online classes or nonsense phone apps - I like physical class hours that I can commit to with at home practice/homework. Does anyone have a german TEFL/CESL friend living in BKK or perhaps a recommendation for a good intl. language school?

  12. Maybe the IO processing 90 day reports doesn't get a share of the brown envelope.
Why don't you find a school in BKK if you are living there?

Good question, you and previous commenter will be delighted to know that I actually already study at unity. Was referred to phuket earlier in year because of a mutual friend who’s a brown skirt for immigration. Obviously now I regret that, but was trying to get some answers as to why this happened or if there was some new agenda in phuket for immigration.

  13. Have had ed visa for 6 months or so now and first 90 day report really wasn't too bad; They told me I couldn't do it online and I had to take passport in person to phuket immigration(I live in BKK, dont ask how I got myself into this mess), but it worked out fine and got it back after a few days of relaxing on the beach. The most recent report I went to phuket and they kept my passport for over a week and then when I got it back it was stamped like 40 some odd days out, as opposed to the normal 90. The school is TTT language school and contact seems to be somewhat helpful but can't get answers out of them beyond "new rule change educational service area office region"

??? Anyone got answers as to what the heck is going on
