  1. Haven't done anything wrong or illegal, there just is no other visa for me.

Obtain Non-O multiple entry visa on the basis of visiting friends from Perth or some of the honorary consulates in Europe is an alternative option.

Ok that can do. Helsinki gave one before. But I still haven't done anything illegal or wrong, that was my point.

Can you please confirm if you previous visas were back to back or spaced out??

As your previous visa was from Helsinki, well outside the local region,

it does rather sound like a knee jerk reaction from Vientienne. :)

Helsinki, Vientiane, Vientiane and now again Vientiane. Never stayed outside Thailand more than 1-2 nights.

Staying in Thailand for more then a year, without work / income??

Suggest you get a proper visum...

  2. Maybe someone can answer this question for me. I went to Aranyphathet on Saturday to get my 2nd entry for a double entry Tourist Visa. The immigration official said No, because the "Use before date" said October 30. I had already used teh visa for my first entry and received a 30 day extension. I was not an overstay. I know the Immigration official was wrong in only giving me a 15 day Visa, but I also knew not to get into a big argument with him and tried to explain otherwise to no avail.

My question to the board is: Can I get this corrected at the new Immigrations Office here in BAngkok, or will I need to make another trip to Laos for another Tourist Visa? ANy help is greatly appreciated. I am an American and 60 years old.

    Thanks for the wonderful Forum.

I think your problem was the extension as you had of one month sending you past the "use before date".

Essentially by letting this happen and not going out/in again you canceled your second visum...

Personally I think that you should have gone out and back into the country before October 30 and I doubt immigration can do anything about it as you are too late....

  3. :D:D:D

For so far coming 20 years to Thailand, I think I have entered the Kingdom for 91 times I have had no problems with the immigrations or Thai embassies around Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Germany till now. On application providing complete paperwork and polite manners everything should works well. Sometimes it takes a bit time, also these people have a lot of paperwork to do and when I give in my paperwork in there are several hundreds aday as well.

To blame others, i.e. illegals for our own mishap is usually not the best way to solve issues like this. :)

I am 65, have traveled a lot and have sofar never had a problem with any immigration.

But as mentioned above last time I went to Thai immigration to get my retirement visum extended, I arrived at 10.00 and 1030 I was out side back going home, WITH passport and stamp...

  4. Windows 7 hits the market

    windows_7_boxes_270x97.JPG

NEW YORK: -- Although the official U.S. launch event is still some hours away, Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system has hit the market, going on sale in a number of countries across the globe.

Boy -- here we go again. There is no direct upgrade path for users of Windows XP, which is the Microsoft operating system of choice of most corporations and computer-savvy home users. That means that most end-users will need to understand how to completely rebuild their own computer from scratch -- and for the average user -- that's gonna be a major challenge.

Well, I think it is a much bigger problem then MS thinks as if you add hours of work together, its no problem for new systems

but I havent got the time to update most of the customers.... AND sort their problems out...

  5. Does all this human rights and law-equalisation across borders mean that farangs will be soon able to own the land under their house in Thailand?

Are CAT & TOT aware of this need for connectivity across borders? They can't even manage it from our moobaan to the exchange in the city centre with any persistency.

Will all this human rights stuff mean 4th and 5th generation Thai Hill Tribes peoples will finally get citizenship without having to pay tea-money to officials and the military?

Will rural schools finally be given the electricity to run the computers the government bought from Thaksin 15 years ago?

    Foggy

If those are the computers he gave/sold that long ago BURY them. Probably too slow and using too much electricity (assuming they still work)

  6. Demps1, what are these bugs you talk off ??

Silly little things at present but more important, have you ever seen MS write any sw which is bug-free???

Also most people will find they need a lot better hardware then they have now and I have no use for reinstalling from scratch....

Lastly you haven't really (normally) total control of the system... wait for the fixes to come out to see what they have forgotten..

  7. Then there's the lack of good breads. Thais can't be expected to understand the difference between good quality bread and starch slabs, as they're a rice-based culture. Maybe some will learn bye and bye, just as some Thais are able to learn that a real sandwich has loads of yummy things between good quality bread - winding up being about 3 to 4 inches thick. In the meantime, a sandwich in Thailand will more likely be two little starch slabs with 2 mm of colored sugar between.

The important thing with bread is that its all in the flower used. import the wrong sort and it likely will never make good bread. Add that many Thais prefer the soggy white and tasteless bread and its clear there is a problem... However I had a similar problem moving from Holland to England and until I had a chat with a local baker who told me to show him the flower and yeast I used I never found out what was wrong and I changed the 'wrong' part and the breads became good... I had a similar problem here in Thailand and there is special flower being delivered to Thailand but using it was tricky and I gave up...

Yeast is here normally not a problem as the packets of various yeast's are imported.

  8. will pattaya, phuket be affected at of this latter part of month?

Only if global warming keeps heating up and the oceans keep rising mate.

Thats interesting as global warming is just another scam to get everyone to pay carbon taxes. What happened to the acid rain which was going to destroy everything around us, do you really fall for this nonsense?

Much more chance that we are heading for a minor ice age. This was a normal thing over the years and the last one caused the bad winters the last few 100 years... However what politician wanting money from voters has a chance of getting it if he tells them they are going to be cold??? Nothing they can do about it anyway...

Main thing to remember is that humans live such short lives and written history is so short that one has to start digging to see what happened in the past... Just search the web under 'minor iceage' etc...

  9. will pattaya, phuklet be affected at of this latter part of month?

Pattaya No idea but as its already bad now.. Phuket, which I know far better of the two, not sure but I doubt it but obviously it depends on who build the house...

And more importantly how good a builder he was.....

Worse in my opinion is that the many building projects dump sand everywhere or better it drops off the cars so you have to drive very carefully. No idea where you live but believe me, I have never seen such a year of rain here. Started somewhere in Januari, then stopped more or less for a month, and it started again in the March...We still have rain almost daily but roads seem to be mostly unaffected (MAIN ROADS). When it rains one hasn't got the energy to start looking in obscure places! But yes, problems are possible as under normal circumstances rain stops mid December but the last 10 years very few things seem to happen on time! Personally I would expect most systems to work properly as most beach areas were hit by that Tsunami in 2004...

Only effect sofar on my house is that clearly the toilet put isn't deep enough or at least we will have to look what to change as it can be a bit frustrating when toilets donot want to flush!

  10. Singapore gets every bit as much rain as Pattaya (likely more so) How many times does Singapore get flooded? Very rarely "but then they are a developed country" where when they want to migate against these events they do so, they don't just talk about it.

Well, Years ago I was in Singapore and near Orchard Towers it suddenly started to rain hard...

We had Orchard road soon under water and I myself spend some time in the towers till the water had disappeared...

Water wasn't really high but I remember one motorbike standing and being upto the handlebars under water...

Took if I remember about 2 hours before the water had disappeared... For the rest one can like anywhere else only blame it on the silly people building where the water wants to go.... I saw the after effects of such a case in cairo, which is NOT known to have a lot of rain and they used no foundations and rarely followed plans but if you change a 6 floor plan to have 10 floors and after finishing it start digging sand out for a supermarket you can expect certain consequences and a sudden rain showed this when they were in the process of opening the place: a sudden rain and it collapsed and I was there I think 2 years later and the building was still lying in its lot as owners had been inside when it went.... And I was told that nobody wanted to BE the owner as then

you also had assume the responsibilities for it falling down.

There are by the ways computer programs which can demonstrate quite visibly what will be under water if sea-level goes up.

No idea what they are called but it seems to be an eyeopener what will happen with just 1 m water extra.... in the sea...

Check what will happen to Europe, USA, Africa and the many delta areas. Look at Miami...

  11. Apply for a multiple NON O visa in Hull UK. Then you ok for a total of 15 months.

After that, every 6 months go to a neighbour asia country ("friendly") and apply for a 2 entry TR visa, with extension totals to 6 months.

Or go to Perth or Hull again and repeat step 1 for a new Non O visa.

These 2 places are known for being friendly = give Non O visa for visit friends.

You can obtain these visas at the moment for sure, but with immigration clampdown cannot guarantee they will be available at future date. Brisbane, usually friendly consulate, said can no longer issue Non-O visas on basis of visiting friends according to report last week. Vientiane (only embassy issuing double entry tourist visas in the region) are going great guns with the red stamp. The MFA is closing the door on spanish practices ...

I got my non imm O from Hull in January. As I am living in BKK but working offshore overseas, is there somewhere closer to thailand that I can get a new non Imm O easily when mine runs out nex year?

    Consider Malaysia...

  12. go to ur embassy and get a new passport...

then go out and apply for new visa...

(stamp out LOS in new pass)

I wouldn't bet on that method -- they ARE using computers at immigration. Any half-wit writing software for them would include a field for "special comments", let alone visualize visa time-lines. You might be in luck with a new passport if the software writers were quarter-wits :D

    (full-wit software writer writing this :) )

As specialist with computers I am VERY surprised Thais havent managed to filter out those here on silly reasons as it should be easy to do.......

It should be very easy to write some programs to filter all the vague guys out of the immigration computer. Its a bit old if still the same but whatever any Pc could do that kind of numbercrunching WITH the right input.

  13. "Help make a updated list" was the heading here. Sorry if some misunderstood me.

I was hoping for a new thread with up to date info from the region. I just got my 2 entry tr visa, but planning ahead. To clearify, I talk about us longstayers with back to back visa's.

Any new info about Perth? Do they still issue Non O for visit friends?

1 member pm me and said that Perth have stopped issue non o for visit friends, is that confirmed ?

Only thing creeping to mind is that Timeshare seems to be doing well....

I hate it but maybe saddling the Thais with more...(G)

  14. Another option is an ED visa, please talk to people who have it, easy life, no more worries, no more visa runs, improved status in Thailand and you get to learn something too. You can stay in Thailand on an ED visa for years.

Walen School - every nationality can apply

    www.thaiwalen.com

    Sorry, second attempt..

    My computer...

ok, explain this then: if one pays the various fees, how much is total since I donot really want to learn Thai after about 23-25 years HERE as it has advantages and disadvantages(!). I tend to understand what I want to(g)....

If the thai I am involved with gets lets say difficult, up to them to arange a translator...

I am 65, just get fed up sticking money in a Thai bank while I can use it better elsewhere the way I want it...

Also I pay for 2 of my kid's studiyng in university.. Other problem is, I live in phuket and HOW sure are you that this whole getaround doesn't get cancelled as soon as the goverment REALLY realizes what happens...

Doesnt matter what you call it but these language schemes are just a scam to evade the normal regulations....

  15. I leave Heathrow tomorrow for 2 weeks in Cha Am, is this going to affect my holiday at all? :D

    Thanks

In a word, yes, you may find it better to have a look at another part of the country at that time, chiang Mai is always nice.

History shows one has a much higher chance of running into a red-ruckus in CM than in Hua Hin or Cha am.... Besides, Hua Hin/Cha am will be the most secure place in Thailand. However, security checks incoming may cause some minor delays and there will likely be a few restricted areas. All unfortunately necessary. There'll be some minor inconvenience but like the last summit on Phuket, they won't be turning tourists away. Enjoy your holiday, should be fine.

guess the beach is a NO GO area :) but who needs the beach, its raining all day anyway :D:D

good luck for all the "service girls" in ca und hh, brings a lot of money to the area.

Is that a good answer? It has been raining since January in Phuket (still does!!). Whatever, if you tell the truth, It has recently been bloody well raining EVERY day . And since I got to Thailand many years ago and lived here I have never seen the climate being what is now... And its NOT global warming as some guys say as its the only thing the politicians have a chance to get money from!

  16. I can not imagine what there are going to do with 18,000 security people?....but then at any given time at least 9000 will be out eating and maybe another 6000 off duty...

so there is actually only 3000 taking care of security at any given time.....

"Residents" like myself are being issued with ID cards......no ID card no travel ih HH during the summit....at least that's what we were told by a group of "officials" that

came around a couple of week ago....they asked for identity papers (passport in my case) and recorded everything. ID card or not.....I'm outta here before this

thing gets going.......good luck to all the tourists.....

  17. Hi.

Stupid question. But what's all this "washing hands" do to a virus that is spread exclusively through the air, i.e. via coughing and sneezing..?? And i highly doubt that those silly masks have any effect on this virus. They can't even hold Diesel soot out, i've tried it.

    Best regards.....

    Thanh

All I can say about it is that that SILLY mask gets dirt from whatever reason you probably would take it off and then STILL infect others or get infected by them. Its a good example that there is a tool which Could work under the proper circumstances which in my opinion exclused most households anywhere.....

Think it over: how long does that mask keeps working properly...

  18. The new flu is a real threat because its death toll here is the highest in Asia and the sixth highest in the world.

The government should also be cautious about the use of antiviral vaccine for the H1N1 flu, he said.

"Any rush may bring unwanted deaths and paralysis," he said.

    A QUESTION:

That flue seems to have been here for already a long time. I have 2 daughters in Songkla univerisity in Phuket and they BOTH got sick. No idea what flue it was but it was a real headache to take them to a goverment hospital! In my opinion they should have a doctor just for flue patients and it doesnt even have to be somebody with a lot of experience.

Just a hospital where one can go and where they do KNOW what to do with blood they get.. Ie find out if its swineflue or not!

Also I donot see if closedown for 2 weeks is recommended that they then have places closing down for 4 days.......

Just a reminder, if the doctor doesnt take a bloodsample he has no way to see what flue you have...

Also I was 'a bit' surprised that the Asian meeting went ahead as I can see the good-will acumulating if 50% of the invited guests get sick!

  19. Topic already running about vehicle passes for Laguna area during Phuket summit...

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Registering-...-S-t278599.html

Assume that its via Pu Yai or Kamnan or Orbotor. May vary between where you are. However as seemingly this short term mess started yesterday even if today I noticed no problems (IT RAINED LIKELY TO HARD) consider you may have later problems depending if those soldiers have a brain (g). I have no idea how or what they are doing but I am all in favour of keeping those red Tshirts out of Phuket... On the other hand if I had been planning their operations they would already be here and driving around on the many phuket registered motorbikes!!! The good thing is that any stranger in the Dusit area is standing out like a read cloth for a steer (spanish variety).

  20. Returned home to Phuket a few days ago from a 2 month break so I am only just catching up with what is going on.I have been told by a couple of people that I need to register my vehicle to obtain a pass to be allowed to travel around the island. This seems to be correct but no one knows where to get these passes.Anyone know anything about this

If I was told correctly its Kamala, Surin, Bangtao and Chengtaley where you can register your bike/car so that they know its local.... Note, nobody said anything about the many Thai owned places where they rent out motorbikes etc....Essentially if red tshirts want to go to Phuket, they are likely already too late...

Nobody knows anyway whats the status of the many motor bikes which are Tsunami victims... and were restored!!

  21. I entered Thailand at Aranyaprathet the other day. They have a health screening station - a quick check of your temperature and you're on your way. Hardly took a second per person.

    So here's the kicker....

    They were only checking foreigners.

Thais could happily pronounce "Khun Thai" as they pointed to themselves in the chest and were waved on with a smile from the health screeners.

    :)

    :D

That says it all. Its political theater, not a health prevention measure.

Thats easy to defeat: take a Bayer Aspirin an hour before arival and that instrument wont work very well. Unless you obviously have a real serious desease and then you should not be traveling!

Now obviously it can work both ways: get a proper travel insurance and if you get put in hospital claime back...

  22. If I'm being lazy and there's another thread dedicated then apols but my wife is pregnant - anyone have any idea of how dangerous this flu is for women in their first / second trimester? I've heard it's serious and would tamiflu or relenza help?

    Tamiflu?

This "cure" is worse than the disease.

Read how many children have died after taking tamaflu.

    http://drbenkim.com/blog/2005/11/fda-takin...ok-at-anti.html

Lord knows what this stuff will do to a fetus.

As far as I know there is no cure for ANY virus caused infection...

Note, I am not a doctor but I studied chemistry years ago.

All they can do is reduce the side effects and as far as I know it makes absolutely no difference where you live.

  23. Neither the USA or Mexico closed their borders.

I think that it would have a draconian effect on tourism and those who hold jobs associated with tourism, there would be no "High Season" and dramatically reduce bookings that are being made for 2010

If normal tourists from Europe want to come here they have to book in the next 2 or 3 months.

With the planned Asian meeting in Phuket I would be very surprised if some idiot doesnt manage to screw things up!
