How does allowing non-Thai people married to a local with a family to return and quarantine just like the Thais are (and pay for it themselves) increasing the risk of spreading anything?
They would be in quarantine.

they do not necessarily need native english speakers especially as many australian/americans have no idea how to pronounce English. What they do need is someone who can speak english though and many foreign students understand English better from a person with own accent. This lady seems to mangle Both,

you are stil married in the UK. if you wish to get a UK spouse visa or get a free schengen visa (till 31.12.2020 at least)then you will have to go through a number of hops. for the schengen visa you will need a translated and notarised copy of your marriage certificate. For uk you need that as well as the income requirement, the nhs fee and a certificate fromthe local authority where you will bw living to affirm that the premises are suitable aaand not overcrowded. if you are renting you need permission form your landlord.she will have to take an interview with the consulate or the visa centre and he english language ability tested.

"Whether some like it or not there is a lot of suspicion directed towards China since this virus appeared".
because people are narrow minded Bigots or fail to do research. The fault does not lie with China but individual governments, People claim with no evidence that it escaped from a lab. not just any lab mind you but the only lab in China with BSL4 security of which there are fewer thab 120 in the world and only one in China. So China orders all non secure labs to stop testing for genome sequence and to stoop tetsing, destroy all records etc in order to safeguard the possibility of any escape. The US CDC told alll labs during the H1N1 virus to stop testing as well, But China is then blamed for doing this,
To me it seemed a sensible precaution. If the virus had escaped from the labs in other cities i wonder who would be blamed.
next People blame China for lying about the figures. There are two aspects to this, firstly Local officials did lie during the party conference season. For 16 days they supressed the figures and failed to report to central government,
Wheher this would have made a difference is debateable, Certianly no travel restrictions etc in the early stages had been implemented for any previous pandemic by the country that was the epicentre. While the Wuhan and Hubei politicians were lying the medical profession was communicating a stream of medical information to the world, ( i am not talking here about supposed whistleblowers as there none. DR, Li and Dr. Ai fen et all got it completely wrong and they only released the information on a private wechat room. They never went public , indeed Dr. Li was horrified that the news got out,).
Information was widely available from mid Jan onwards in medical jjournals both in the west and in China. Additionaly there were also many articles discussing the progress of the disease in China on the net. On Jan1st to 3rd the acting US secretary Redfield was informed of the situation by the head of the Chinese CDC. According to the new york times he was rattled and took the warnings seriously. Indeed one of them was moved to tears by the events. The other problem about numbers is this was a new virus, tests had not been done and also not all private hospitals were reporting the cases. NOr did they have information of those ill at home. This was true too in the US its CDC complained about the failure f States to report during the H1N1 crisiis.Initially there was a problem of what counted- those tested positive or those who had the symptoms
Figues will always be incorrect until much later. It took two years of study before the final figures for SARs were published and accepted.
The next claim was that China hid the fact that it could be transmitted from Human to Human. and the Who played along.
Whilst this may be true of the public pronouncements of the WHO the technical notes that adjoined the report were warning of the strong likelihood of human to human transmission as the Guardian report states. As For China, Doctors at first thought the disease was infectious but did not know if it was contagious. Once they began to suspect it was they still did not know what the method of transmission was. After all HIV (another virus) is contagious but you cannot catch it standing next to someone etc. It was not till definite proof filtered through that they decided it definitely was contagious through droplets form infected patients.
Doctors suspected Human to Human transmission but they had no definite proof. As Dr Zhang says
"If it is me doing the research, how could I tell the public before I have come to a clear conclusion? We should always take a cautious, scientific attitude towards releasing such information to the public."
Look what happened when a lockdown was ordered for the next day 140,000 people fled in one day. How many of the three milllion that left before were the result of panic as a result of the
leaked news from DR. Li and his cohorts.
Western governments had know of the problem since Dec 31. they knew of the possible severity from mid January long before any infected person appeared in their country. They had the genome sequence and patient profiles and the tretment regime thaT Chinese doctors were using. It is not the responsibility of Chiina if they allowed people into their countries and did little about it.. it is a bit like someone sees a bush fire far off coming your way but you do nothing about it as the people where the fire started have not told you a fire exists.
it is not the responsibility of China that the uK failed to respond to warnings as far back as 3 years ago that the NHS could not cope with a pandemic unless things changed.Instead there were more cuts. The Uk also failed to follow the lead of more successful countries with rapid testing etc. Instead they accepted rubbish research that stated well they will get it anyway so develop herd immunity. The person who blames China is blaing the wrong group. They should look to what their own governments failed to do But it is all to simple to blame someone else.

Cambodia has done more tests a million than India and Nigeria etc. 723. The number of deaths attributed to Covid19 has been exagerrated and evidence shows that lockdown causes more deaths throough creating unemployment, poverty and hypertension.
It may mitigate the no of deaths caused by Covid19 but the cure is worse than the disease.

"There are some people who have had 3 flights cancelled and not had the money refunded.
People's funds only stretch so far
If the flight was to the Eu, Eea or uK then they are covered under law.

The chinese Doctor Li Wenliang and the other 6 doctors strangely never mentioned were not whistleblowers. Firstly they were discussing in a private medical chat room, though he did release patient data (not actually his patient either as he was an opthamologist) and someone took a screenshot of their chat. However as the news had been told to the public and the hospitals and medical clinics already been notified i fail to see how he and his colleagues were whistleblowers. Neverthless you have a point about Thailand whereas in other countries different medical staff and statisticians have blown the lid on their own government's incompetence and deceit over the figures this has yet to happen in Thailand . Instead they have been trumpeting about their own whilst denigrating other countries.

Walter
here are the charts, a simple search in Google found them
https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-testing-covid-19-tests-per-capita-chart-us-behind-2020-3
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_testing#Testing_statistics_by_country
for walter,
to be honest most statistics on this are unreliable.
In the UK all respitarory illnesses are classified as Covid-19.
In the USA John Hopkins university has severly criticised Government figures,
in Germany their statisticians have also criticised their figures. Few actually follow WHO
guidelines for classification, hence China's massive increase some time back when they applied the new
rules.
As for Thailand it only tested 17829 people or 257 per million
only 14 countries in the chart tested fewer per million. Also this does not include in the count the
number of tourists. Thai medical news in article before China changed its figures
complained of that country under representing the figures precisley because they had not tested more people.
https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/reasons-for-china’s-unreliable-death-and-infected-statistics--finally-revealed-insufficient-test-kits,-also-cambodia-reports-first-case
As the Phuket news reports the government officials have been caught out lying (albeit over one case).
One also only has to look at a recent post here where it was noted there were no cases in Pattaya. Yet it has since been discovered
that there was, they just had not been tested. Two days ago we had another case of a Frenchman and his girlfirend testing positive.
With such low testing one cannot rely on the official figures.
People should look to statistics from other countries, the infection rates and mortality rates are consistent when one use the
mulBsta score. (https://www.mdcalc.com/mulbsta-score for those interested in knowing what it is)- 1

if the virus cannot travel through water then explain how sars was spread through fecal plume when flushing a toilet. True , toilet water isi not chlorinated. Remember the virus is spread through the expelling of particulates from an infected person, why masks are good for an infected person but useless for non infected people unless one uses as special virus mask. the problem is likely to be outside the pool as people have said, However unless you are vunerable, a smoker, have heart condition, shortness of breath etc Covid 19 is not that deadly. (ranging form 0.1% in parts of China to 10% in Italy) mortality rates are highest only for those with poor immunity and the really old(hence Italy) . If one follows sensible hygiene rules and keeps social distance then there wold be no problem. As for pools as Doctors state it is not likely to be a problem , however there would be no point in chlorinating the water if you then share a towel after to dry yourselves.

if you are not already registered on government gateway, they send you a letter toa british address with login details. As for being in the Uk and thailand. You are entitled to the increase in pension when you are in the UK. thus if you stay a week or longer you are entitled to the current pension amount for that period. If you were in the Philippines as they have a reciprocal arrangement (unlike thailand) then you would get full increase in the pension.

Of the 13,522 confirmed cases In Hubei there have been 414 deaths, 1567 serious cases and 576 are critical. According to Doctors it is more infectious than Sars (one patient infecting another 6) but the mortality rate is less. Most of the patients who are serious or have died were already suffering from serious bronchial disorders or some other serious problem. Not surprising given the number of heavy smokers there. Wuhan has commandeered hotels and opened the exhibition centre for people getting treatment. They have ordered isolation of potential cases and all travel has been stopped in Wuhan. I left the day before the ban, although the walkthrough i had to do In Bangkok was pathetic. The idea that you get it by being next to a chinese is plainly fatuous. China is a huge country, it is as silly as saying that if someone comes from California that is infected then you can get it form people coming form New York. The huge problem was that it occurred at Chinese new year or just before when people were already leaving (some maybe from the rumours spread by irresponsible Doctors in Wuhan) making the problem extra difficult. Many of the residents of Wuhan actually come from other parts of China and return home for the new year, hence the small spread in other regions. see https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/02/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/

data protection laws are not the same throughout Europe although there is a minimum EU requirement. I fail to see why the embassy or consulate cannot provide a letter certifying that a persons p60 or P60's is genuine and should be taken as proof of income. This wiill get around the Data Protection requirement, It is not true that government departments cannot access other departments when they have permission from the individual, Inland revenue do this anyway and it should not be hard for the revenue to send proof to the embassy on request so that they can verify. a fee may have to be charged but it is a simple admin change.

the prices will also drive the Chinese away, One thing that the Chinese love is value for money. Thailand offers nothing that Cambodia, Vietnam, South Korea and other SE asians do not also have to offer but cheaper.

Firstly thanks for all the informative comments, though the idea that at 71 you are past it seems a bit off. I have done more travelling around the world since i was 65 than any time in my student days,
well i should have stated that i am british and live in the UK, although i have lived in China Something an elite . I have no health problems and am still waiting for any signs of ill health or the problems supposedly associated with aging. The idea of a two year visa makes sense as i am in a relationship with a Thai. though i will wish to live with her first before any marriage. Divorce is really expensive for the man especially if it is done in Britain where the woman can take half your assets including a pension. i do not drink much just an occasional drin now and then or a glass at dinner. Being retired i do not have anything pressing to do all day and can easily read books etc whilst waiting at offices for any processing. I have never been in Hospital since i was born and rarely go to the doctor except for my flu jab and check up once a year. i go to the gym regularly and although i think i look old others include strangers put my age around 50 which i think is silly. Still i suppose it makes up for envying all my mates who looked older than me when i was at school. My brain is still active and my curiousity unabated. Maybe the result of twn years of higher education. I accept that i may need health insurance but wonder if the cost of £7-8000 a year is actually worth it when the NHS is free and i still would have residence in the UK, which i would not legally have if i had a retirement visa. An Elite visa gives a free health check up i understand so any problems indicated meant i could return to the uK where two of my children live. i will investigate the two year visa though from what ir read it would mean getting a police check, health certificate tec etc.

people are right that more information is needed. what nationality. if European then there are plenty of places in Europe with sun and sand that one can live on that money. If he is from the UK he has the benefit of having his pension increased each year , something which willnot happen if he moves to thailand as his pension will be frozen. People also need to know what health he is in, being &) does not mean you are any more decrepit than someone 30 years younger. Lifestyle matters as well. does he drink, go with bar ladies. if so then forget it. THe philippines are also an option. If American then consider Belize.

I am 71 and moving to Thailand. My problem is do i buy an elite visa or get a retirement visa. If mandatory medical insurance is required then the costs of a retirement visa increase dramatically. my pensions and assets qualify for the retirement amount . I understand that some offices do not accept the monthly income requirement and insist on you having 800000 in a Thai bank especially if your consulate will not verify your pension income. You also have to leave half in i understand.

I assume you paid commision to the coaches, offered a discount to them and had a wechat account so you could accept money via the phone otherwise it would be no wonder they never went there.
Face scanners Tesco
in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Posted
These have been in China for over two years at least. You scan your face,/eyes and attach it to your wechat account or bank card, put in a passnumber, as well as attaching a store card if they have one. From then on you simply scan your items , type in your number, stand in front while it scans your face. and you pay automatically. simple and useful, especially if there is a queue or you do not have your phone or card with you.
Nothing to do with face masks.
