I always use Chokeanan tour (Tel: 02-4357429) from the Southern Bus Station (not far from Central Pinklao) to come to Ranong, they have VIP 32 (700 baht return) and VIP 24 (900 baht return), I always go for the night service, which leaves at 2100 from Bangkok, gets into Ranong about 0530.
When you get to Ranong, get a bike, car or bus to Immigration, there is a new 'big boat' service over to Myanmar, much more comfortable that the longtail boat (certainly in the rainy/storm season!), either boat option will cost you about 300 baht, plus the $5 for the Myanmar Immigration.

Simon,
I've got DTAC GPRS, 1200 baht a month unlimited time/downloads (drops to 500mb included after 6 months), been happy with it, it's a little slow but fine for light graphics, email and text (such as tv).
No calls included in that package.

Simon,
Focus on a cardiovascular workout (i.e. running/walking, aerobics, fitness) and slower and longer (minimum 1 hour) rather than a ten minute sprint.
I lost 30kgs when I first came to Thailand, doing exactly that. It's also important to build fitness into your life, a good workout 3 or 4 times a week will keep off the kilos, a 5 week blitz and then nothing could see you put a lot back on.
For me the optimum fat burn was keeping my heart rate at between 60 and 80%, your gym should be able to help you work that out with monitoring equipment.
I found it difficult to do fat burning and muscle building all at once (for motivation I like to see actual results in kilos shed), and the diets required for fat burning and muscle building are different.
Good luck, but actually theres no luck involved, if you want it enough you will make it happen.
Regards

P.S. I know you are in Phuket where do you workout? I can recommend Le Meridien (on the way to Karon from Patong), it's 40,000 a year but has great equipment, staff, sauna, tennis, swimming pools, private beach etc..

I have just checked the speed of my 3 connections using the following websites..
http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer.asp
http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
The results as follows...
Dialup on TOT free Internet... 33.4 Kbps
Dialup on CSLoxinfo... 39.6 Kbps
GPRS on DTAC... 16.9 Kbps

What kind of speed are you getting out of GPRS connection in Thailand?
I'm able to achieve speeds of somewhere between laidback and lethargic, in order to maintain the feeling of satisfaction that you get from going mobile DTAC recommends avoiding any actual speed tests.
And who cares, I live in Thailand, the occassional period of inactivity gives me time to observe cloud formations, wildlife or check on the family, I've been working too hard anyway.

I've just signed up with DTAC's 1200 Baht unlimited GPRS Internet package, it has been excellent. I'm really enjoying the ability to work anywhere, anytime, in cars, on beaches, a great tool.

Dutchy,
I can't comment on your specific case, but I can confirm that the moderators of the board work very hard with little or no benefits to maintain this valuable resource. It's not always possible to reply to specific items such as you have, in my experience the poster probably knows all the answers to his questions already, the rules here are common sense.
Don't take it too personally, welcome back, use your account in a positive way and I'm sure you won't have any more problems.

Ambo,
I read your post about shoes and did wonder why you were getting so worked up about it (swearing).
You'd have thought h_e_l_l would be ok.
6 Hashes is the standard, by the way.
I've seen that ambassodor guy on Thai Visa he's always <deleted> this and that, maybe not!

After we cleared them out I think they were a bit upset, they have only just come back again, we have put up really big boxes this time.
We got 300 baht a bottle for the last lot, not sure if I can be bothered to do process it, but thanks for the tip.

Sunbelt,
Thanks for putting me straight.
J

Sunbelt,
I was always under the impression that 2M Baht capital was required per foreign employee regardless of whether they are a director or not?
Has this changed recently or did I just misunderstand?
Thanks

BJ,
Show who you looking for work?
You had the B visa to look for work, it didn't happen, no problem.
J
-
BJ,
Do you have a multiple or single entry B visa? (sounds like single).
If only a single entry then you need to get yourself the tourist visa or do visa runs until you find a job.
Don't worry, you won't get into trouble because you didn't get a job.

Puck,
When you form a 2 Million Baht company you are only required to pay-up 25% initially, you need to give proof to the company registration office within X number of days (I forget how long, I think 90 days) that the money has been paid in.
500,000 Baht.

Regal,
I'll let have to let someone else answer, I've forgotten what I took to get the Immigration address statement, but it wasn't much, maybe even nothing? (hence I can't remember what I took).
I don't see a problem with you getting insurance, of course you ought to get yourself a Thai Driving License whilst your there!
J
-
Regal,
Yes, get the Immigration proof of address first, that will help.
Give it a go, as you've already found things are different when there are not too many farang in town, people's attitude is to try to help, whereas my experience in Phuket is that they will make it as hard as they can for you.

The rules are that you need a Non Immigrant visa to enable you to register the car in your name, in theory a tourist visa is not enough.
However, a friend with NO VISA has just got a car registered in his name in an 'in the sticks' office that probably didn't know the rules, somewhere like Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya would probably have said no.
But as ever smile politely and assure them that you have been told by 'insert the name of some high sounding official' that it wouldn't be a problem and that everyone does it, failing that you might have to 'cover their costs'

For paying online I have a web shopping card from Kasikornbank (KB), it takes the funds directly from your KB savings account.
You don't actually get a card, only a visa credit card number, you need to have their internet banking to get/manage one.
I never keep more than a few hundred baht on the card account (to help prevent fraud), just before making a purchase I transfer funds onto the card from the internet banking, I get an email from KB after purchase.
The exchange rate is always excellent, I've never once been declined in more than 100 transactions around the world in 2 years using our Thai address.
With the KB internet banking you can also make online payments to Thai companies (i.e. fill up your internet, pay your electric/telephone) it's very useful.

The girl (forgot her name) who get's together with Boston rob got the million $, but he asks her to marry him first before they know who will get it, she says yes (so he wins either way!), the other surprise on the final show is that there is another million $ to give away, after a public vote it was given to the bearded social worker/fishing guy (forgot his name also!).
