Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
faxx replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As I understand it foreign income will not be taxable if I keep it in a Hong Kong bank account and use it to pay for a luxury vacation on Hawaii. -
Delayed eVisa - change entry stamp at immigration?
faxx replied to faxx's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
No, they stated expressively that it was a good will gesture of the IO at the time as they are aware of the long delays in the new evisa system. I used to be able to receive a visa within 30 minutes at the Thai consulate, while it takes around 3 weeks with the online system. I will have my friends call them to inquire. -
A few weeks ago I applied fonhline for a TR Visa. Unfortunately, it took weeks to process and was issued after I had already entered into Thailand on a visa waiver. I was reading on FB groups that some members there have been able to visit immigration and were able to have their entry stamps adjusted and the visa included while other experts stated it was not possible at all. Anybody here has tried to change from waiver to visa successfully and care to confirm?

2nd swab test (day five) - problem
faxx replied to prophet01's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just for the record. I contacted my test & go hotel about this matter. They said when I arrived on 23rd I was still in the old rule set for antigen self testing. They asked me to send them the images of my selftest result and they would forward the result to the hospital who took my initial PCR test. Let's hope this works out the way it should. -
2nd swab test (day five) - problem
faxx replied to prophet01's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
There is no option to upload anything inside the Morchana app other than scanning the Thaipass QR code. I will have my Thai friend call the hospital where I took the first PCR test to get more info, tomorrow. Thks. -
2nd swab test (day five) - problem
faxx replied to prophet01's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I have the same problem. I received the antigen test kit at the hospital on 22nd after I did the initial PCR test. They said explcitly that the second test will be the antigen test and NOT a PCR test. I downloaded the Morchana App and was told to wait for a notification when to take the test and upload result. However, the app never sent me any notification and I guess it is not working well. I.e. it asks for my passport number, but the field can not be edited ... -
NON O single entry from Germany
faxx replied to faxx's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yeah, I wish I had considered it that way from the start. For 4 months I was chasing the consulates in Frankfurt and Munich for appointments and my evisa application is processing in the queue for weeks. Now, I still want to fly to Thailand to meet my family for christmas in 3 days, but due to lack of visa I have to take a much more expensive flight instead of a standy ticket. This is really frustrating. -
Covid extension 30 or 60 days?
faxx replied to Big Bert's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
If I were to arrive mid December on a visa waiver and wanted to get an extension by mid January, would I receive a regular 30 day extension or a be able to obtain a 60 day covid extension? -
Seven11 and other groceries sell AIR-X tablets that can be used for the same issue. I am not a medical professional to point out side effects or anything else, but it does reduce acidicity of your gut and is pretty cheap at 18 Baht per 10 tablets.

I want to stay with friends this time and need to present a invitation with my visa application. From what I gather, I need a copy of my friend's Thai ID and blue housebook. Would a non-formal letter saying something like this be sufficient? I guess my friends will write in Thai. Dear Mister Guest, I invite you to stay at my home located at blah, blah in my blah blah city during your upcoming visit from December 1 to December 31. Cu Soon Signature of Owner

NON O single entry from Germany
faxx replied to faxx's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just experiencing this change. I made an appointment with the consulate in Munich 2 months ago and now they cancelled my appointment quoting the upcoming changes to the electronic visa. It looks like it's going to take me 3 to 6 more months to get a new visa. -

Thanks. Were you able to get the visa on the same day of application like it used to be in the past? -

I used to visit one of the honorary consulates to receive my single entry NON-O for 90 days in the past. They are all closed and the only place to visit is the general consulate in Frankfurt. I am 55 years old and have the 5000 Euro in my bank as required. I was told that I am no longer eligible for a NON-O based on my age of over 50 and sufficient funds. The single entry is only available for people with documentation of government retirement payments and spouses of Thai partners. I was told to apply for the O-A instead. The requirements are amazingly difficult and would take months to compile. Are there any viable options to obtain a single entry NON-O in another country?
