I watched him type in each person's passport number, but the screen was in Thai so I could not tell what he was checking. But he did turn the person away ahead of me after entering her passport number and explained it was due to a missing TM30, so that (and perhaps other data) was being reviewed. I did not provide a paper copy of a TM30 or any other owner documents.

    Thanks again DFPhuket ...

I had my retirement extension done last week. There is now a computer outside where the person checks your papers. The first thing he did was confirm on his computer that a TM30 was in the system. The person ahead of me was told they couldn't proceed until a TM30 was completed.

The TM30 was checked again when I applied for my multiple re-entry permit. I assume the need for a TM30 would apply to a guardianship extension as well.

Otherwise, at least for an extension based on retirement, it was the same as in previous years.

    Many thanks DFPhuket...

Ps Did they require some form of Proof of address ie Rental Contract etc, Phuket Immigration Volunteers website doesnt mention it. I "own" my land and house through "my" Thai company...

  3. I stand corrected (by myself)

I just noticed there is a Custodian to Thai child section on http://piv-phuket.com/long-stay-extensions/custodian-to-thai-child/

Actually it says apply within 30 days, I thought it used to be 45 days ?

Gotta laugh/or cry about the new photo requirements though :
2 Pictures of of the father with the child / children inside the house in 2 separate rooms. (Kitchen and sleeping room)

So I have a Extension named "Custody of Thai child" or something like that but called Guardian Visa at Phuket Immigration.

I have Sole Custody (Full Parental Control) of my two half Thai kids

I'm off to renew it next week, will do the 100thb debit before Bank paperwork,

Will take my 100 sheets of info: pictures, maps, kids info, photos, etc etc as the same for the past 5 or so years.

Just wondered if much or anything has changed.

I did the Video house video walkthrough too last year...

    Many thanks in advance,

    BBJ...

Costs savings depend on the insulation efficiency of the house build.

I found no difference in savings electric use from buying a cold blow air-con unit or a air-con inverter unit only that the inverters are more expensive and we're difficult to find anyone to fix em.

Mine's like a typical 4 bed Supalai Villa so no known insulation to speak of and was built 12-13 years old.

I wonder if "they" build more energy efficient homes nowadays?

When replacing a conventional unit with an inverter unit:

If the old unit was oversized (likely), you should see significant savings.

If the old unit was sized correctly (unlikely), you will see some savings.

If the old unit was undersized you should see no savings, and it may cost more.

I would estimate sized correctly to oversized !!!!

Would you tell what your typical electricity consumption is?

    Units per month?

    Hi KhunBENQ

    8k to 10k pcm, 4 bed villa,

ACs on in 3 rooms at night,

    swimming pool,

Washing machine 1-2 times per day,

20 garden lights on for security at night,

    3 fridges...

If your 15-year-old conventional units were sized correctly and well maintained, replacing with new inverter units will likely save 10-20% in electric.

Replacing them with new conventional units might save 5%

I replaced three >20-year-old York units with new inverters in the last few years and I'm saving maybe 1,500 a month.

I still have two old Yorks, an old Mitsubishi and an old Carrier left to replace, but they are only used occasionally.

Thanks YellowTail so maybe 500thb pcm per AC saving ie 5k thb pa...

Maybe 5-10 years to get ROI then...

Comparing old house/AC draw (non inverter), and new house/AC draw (heavy duty inverter), then yes, major difference and immediately noticed.

Both house builds identical, AAC block, insulated roof/ceiling, and well shaded with roof extension.

Mitsubishi fan, as they've never failed me in 20+ yrs.

Thanks KhunLA, can you tell us how much you're saving in THB and % pls ? ...Just roughly ...Thanks

  10. My house's 5 ACs are York by Johnston Controls and they've been super reliable for the past 12 or so years.

I've researched old vs new and it would appear the new units to mine are possibly 33% to 50% more efficient, maybe...

Has anyone changed to new ACs and noticed and dramatic reduction on Electricity usage, if so how much?

I'm sure you would, I'm just trying to work out my ROI as such...

    Many thanks

    BBJ...

PS ACs used in 3 bedrooms overnight, and afternoons on weekends occasionally...

Did you have papers from the court stating that you have sole custody and did you show these papers to them?

You could go to the amphoe with two neighbours who testify that she is staying with you alone and you are raising her alone, then you take this paper from the amphoe to the passport office and then the other parent isn't needed anymore.

I have no experience how the amphoe reacts to the foreigner though (should still be possible I think, but they might just say "no" and you might have to force them to move their ass), in the case which I experienced, it were 2 Thai parents, the mother took the two grandparents to the amphoe to get this paper, then the signature of the father wasn't required anymore.

Yes I took the papers for sole custody...

That apologised and said the easiest way was to het the mother to sign a consent form...

Which does sound easier than dragging neighbours upto the Amphur I think ...

  12. Hi

I have Full parental control of my daughter (for 4 years+) and today headed to Phuket Passport office in Central with all the correct documents to renew my daughters Thai passport.

I was told extremely politely that I needed a consent form signed by my daughter's mother.

Her mother lives overseas so will need to visit the Thai embassy and get the formed signed/certified and returned with her Thai Id.

Is this really the case, I thought I had "full legal parental control" !

    Many thanks,

    BBJ.

  13. Hi

Just considering my son's further Education, he has a High School Diploma, and is considering London University in a year of 2, does anyone have any knowledge/experience of APs in Bangkok, I see there are about a dozen school offering the courses, I just wondered if it's possible to just sit the exams at any of the schools or other testing centres?

    (We don't live in Bangkok)

    Many Thanks in advance,

    BBJ...

  14. OK so here's how it played out....

I withdrew 100thb and updated SCB Savings Bank book on the weekend and photo copied.

Went to SCB 9am Monday, got the letter and statement that MATCHED the above final balance in the account.

    Immigration at 10.30am.

My ONLY document error ! I was told to go take 100thb out, update bank book and photocopy.

ie "They like to see the money has not been removed from the account today".....
