  1. What I do not understand is that if you are living in a high rise building that you yourself do not have some plan of escape incase of an emerency. It could a simple as some sort of fireproof rope/cable permantly secured to the balcony so you can lower yourself to a lower foor or even the groundlevel. Put in few knotts so you something to hold on.

  2. I am starting to see rubber plantations in Phitsanulok province.

There is one very close to the new airport it looks like about 250- 300 rai.

I do not know how far your are from (baan) Lan Krabu but there are are a few nurseries who sell rubber tree saplings.

I asume you can buy them anywhere?

  3. I personally prefer to turn left at Lampang and go to Phitsanuloke via Den Chai (Phrae) and Uttaradit. It's a bit shorter and a bit more interesting on the bike or in the car with the hills and winding roads.

Spot on! Forget Tak, it's going out of your way. Get to the main highway lights in Lampang, and go straight over onto the newer highway #11 then on through Den Chai. Far less traffic and better scenery.

As Boksider said head for Wang Tong as soon as you see the right turn to Phitsanulok and just keep going. A nice scenic stop for coffee etc. when you get to the top of the mountains. Have a good trip.

Yes better scenery and less traffic up to Phitsalulok but Terrymor 66 is talking about a truckload of furnishing.

Is this a truck or a pick-up? If truck (6 or 10 wheeler) please take Tak if pick-up up to you.

  4. OK, I am headed to Khon Kaen in a week or so and I am wondering if anyone has driven that from Chiang Mai to Khon Kaen ? I think right now my plans are to drive south to Phitsanoluk (sp) and then take Hwy 12 east to Chumphae and Khon Kaen. Is this a good route to take ? I will be taking a truckload of furnishings and a motorcycle, so I prefer as few small winding roads as possible.

Thanks for any help or advice

The road from CM to KK is the easiest via Tak.Sukothai, Phitsanulok and Lom Sak (same as you planned). I have tried some other routes but they are either slower or hillier and I think you can do with out them.

About 50 kms past Phitsanulok it gets a bit hilly but not to bad when going down hill stick to the advisery signs because there are a few sharp corners. The scenery is very beautifull.

About 40 kms past Lom Sak it gets more hillier and there is few sharper corners when driving through the national park(can`t remember the name of the park). Don`t drive here at night because there is a lot of wild game on the road. In April I nearly collided twice on the same night with a herd of elephants at 10pm and a bit later. The scenery here is about the best I have seen in Thailand. Also there are no services stations for about 90-100 kms past Lom Sak so make sure you have enough fuel.

I drive this route at least 4 times a year and every time I really enjoy it.

    Good Luck

  5. One from the menu in the restaurant at the old yacht club beach road (gone now - relocated to second road).

    "Stewed beef with dishcloth" :o

I guess they were hoping we'd do the washing up.

That's so dis-jointed I can't work out what it is actually supposed to mean...

    Soundman.

No, and I'm afraid I can't help as I never quite worked up the courage to order it.

Couldn't for the life of me imagine why? :D:D

    Soundman.

maybe it is meant to be stewed beef with FISHSAUCE but that would not tast the best I would think

  6. My live-in GF has a Son back in the Village. He is 14yrs old. Three months ago she loaned him her New Meo so that he could get to school on time.

When she got it back last week is was in a he-ll of a state ie Panels Missing. Rear Brake not working. Kick starter missing. Mirrors missing. Damaged forks. Engine Valve burned out etc etc.

Now she wants me to pay for the repairs!

    I say no-way. Am I right?

You better have a good look at your girlfriend bike if it is hers or someone elses with her number plate on it.

Used to be an insurance trick or are they not that smart in Thailand. :o

  7. If you are looking for good quality teak wood furniture, try the company called Golden Triangle HangDong, located just on the main road in the beginning of HangDong (from ChiangMai). They have some nice teakwood pieces, both antiques and new.

Really good thing is, that you can work with them through internet and email. Even custom made pieces! I have done it myself, it really worked :o . They even have a website store http://www.goldentriangle.co.th The web prices are not that cheap...but they go down if you request shipping within Thailand :D .

Golden Triangle must be the most exspenive furniture shop in thailand.

There are a lot more places in Hang Dong which are only half price or cheaper and the same quality
