I have been a Samui person for 30yrs now..& driving standards are getting worse...i find the older generation Thais the worse pull out with out looking/open doors without looking/park where they want..etc etc..they carry on as though it was 30yrs ago..in saying that Farangs are not much better either..Chinese/Russians/French are worst offenders...i have my own bike/car..there are certain times i NEVER go out on the bike..NEVER after dark..or between 4-30/6-30pm..when the thais are going home to get ready for 2nd job..have an accident involving a thai & police will side with the thai[even if you are 100% in the right..its happened to me]...Samui Thais seem to be a law to themselfs...i could go on & on..but i think you get the jist of what i am saying...

I am not living in Samui anymore but still go there each year for holidays. I agree with this part of your OP because it would do more damage to me mentally if I killed someone on a bike while driving a car. At least on a bike we fell that we can avoid the accidents that should happen and we can look after ourselves. Like you I have had both licenses from the allowable age.

By the way I went to Samui for holidays for 5 years before I would ride a bike there. It takes time to learn the local driving habits.

    Wow! 325 people?

Did anyone see the police making the rounds?

I ask as I never see the cops here, except for the occasional traffic stop when they are doing helmet fines (I don't drink, so that might have something to do with it).

Anyone see ID checks at Tesco? Big C? Makro? The bars in Cheweng/Lamai? Soi Mango? Did the police already know where they were and just went to their houses to pick them up? Anyone know how many were on Samui? The other islands?

If you have further info, please share!

    Cheers

can tell u..loads on samui..Lamai is crawling with illegals

Thank you for the information, and no thanks to those offering opinions on whether or not he should be returning after 50 years away.

I was only asking for factual information - not opinions or advice on whether or not he should be burdening himself on the Uk State.

But since you have raised these issues, my friend was born and bred in the UK, paid tax and  NHI contributions for 10 years before emigrating. So for the past 50 years has not made a single claim on the Uk welfare system or used the free health system. And yes, he still has family in the UK.

IMHO  he is more entitled to get what he is legally due from the Uk government than many thousands who have never paid a penny to the state in tax and are living at the state's expense.

But there again... that's just my opinion....

So your friend pissed off for a better life..now wants to milk the system he has paid <deleted> A into for 50 yrs..we have 2 many doing this..tell him to stay where he is...he is just a liability on our system

  6. We have plenty of freeloaders in Samui...take the bar having a party, food etc...watch them turn up "eat like a f....ing horse & piss off"

Happens on a pool night also some teams give "free food" to the teams competing ...up come the "supporters" scoff the lot never buy a drink & gone....then there's  the quiz nights...50bht for food..1st in que plate full of food...then around for 2nds,3rds ...prob had abt 200/250bht of food....they know who they are, just hope they are reading this

33 out of 50 states are LARGER than England. All your facts are BS. Come visit a small state like Massachusetts or Connecticut and see what "type" of people you meet.  I love how Brits think people from the South of England and are soooo different than from the North of England. What is it a 2 or 3 hour drive??  Anyways, this is all in fun, at least for me it is.

Am glad you think its fun[seriously i mean it]...on a point you made about the north south divide in UK...its the northern folk who dont like us from the south...i think its mainly as the government is in the south...as a Londoner...i DONT think the north get a fair crack of the whip

Really don't like arrogant, ignorant fools that generalize all people into one group.

I totally dislike Trump and didn't vote  for him.

He received received less than 50% of the vote and won based on the absurd electoral college. He would have lost had someone other Clinton been running against him. It was a choice of who do you hate less.

Be careful humpty dumpty...u might fall off the fence

  9. Having travelled all over the states...most yanks are as thick as......most cannot tell you anything abt there homeland...90% never travel outside the state they were born in ...as for world travel...98% dont even have a passport, most think coz they are americans..they dont need one[i am not joking either]

So the poll dont surprise me at all.

Just think who they have voted for president....says it all
