Bold of you to assume any form of solid meaning. Next week they'll probably say they were talking about migratory birds as a pilot testing program for airspace control, and declare it a success.

I was wondering if this is the explanation.
Things have gone from good to really, really bad. It doesn't take a genius to see where things are heading from here. A bizarre move giving one person complete power over an upcoming complete and inevitable disaster seems like a potential scapegoat setup. Of course he'd be too powerhungry to refuse any opportunity to hold more power, and that lust would blind him to any potential plans, even if it was a case of taking responsibility for impending doom.
Or it could simply be an opportunistic power grab which will bring no trouble that a typical Thai denial of responsibility, or denial of reality will be able to avoid.
May goodness itself help Thailand, because I can't see anything else doing so in a hurry.- 3

The difference is i don't go out drinking in Thong Lor during a global pandemic, and then refuse to quarantine after catching Covid-19 which most likely would have been avoidable in the first place.
It's nothing more than pure arrogance from the Hi-So's, while other poorer Thai's have absolutely no choice in the matter.
it's simply unfair to have a two tier rule based on class and wealth. This is what angers me.
If you have lived here for long enough you will know that this is a common theme.
I know several people in Thailand who have or have had the virus recently. None of them are hiso. All of them are Thai. None of them ever go out drinking in bars, most of them don't drink. I fully understand why they are terrified of going into field hospitals. All of them most likely caught it from work, which they have to go to in order to keep putting food into the mouths of themselves and families. Some of them are parents who caught it from their children who caught it from work.
Not everyone who is terrified of going to a field hospital is hiso. Regular people wish to live with some level of dignity and freedom and a lack of horror too. If you think anyone who is told to go to a field hospital should comply and do so, and that this should not be seen as a deterrent, I wish for you to have such an experience to bring you to reality. -

By 'the situation should begin to normalise in 2-3 weeks', perhaps he means that after 2-3 weeks, this situation should start to seem normal.
Interesting that he assured Thais that the situation is progressing as expected by 'relevant committees'. I suppose those committees had realistic expectations that the virus would spread everywhere, people would be too scared to go to field hospitals or upsetting coworkers and employers and thus avoid testing, etc etc. -

No, I would not. I suspect most Thais wouldn't want it either. Which is why this just might be an effective strategy to get people to take proper anti-Covid precautions. Do so or else you get this. Just might get a lot of those Thong Lor partiers to think twice before they go on the rampage again.
This might seem to make sense to someone who has never interacted with or observed humans before, but you should try it some time, you'd obviously learn a lot. Thailand would be an excellent place for you to observe culture and behaviour which would clearly teach you various basic aspects of human nature you've as yet not been exposed to. -

I wonder what their reasons were for refusing.. Thinking that they're above the law, or what?
I really wish for you to be forced into such a place. It would give you an education, enabling you to see what you currently somehow manage to fail to. -

It's all about discipline and common sense. If you don't wear masks, social distance and be conscious of touching surfaces and your face then it's more likely you will catch it.
Have you even visited Thailand? Have you seen a typical Thai home environment? Have you been to a Thai market? Ridden on a Thai bus?
You can talk about the hypotheticals people could do, but if they have no chance of actually happening, they're irrelevant. -

I personally know of multiple cases of this; people who know they are infected and know that if they get tested they'll test positive and be forced into one of those nightmare holding facilities, and they'll have their workplace closed down and everyone will be resentful of them, bosses and workmates alike.
Why the heck would you get tested when it will make you a pariah and a prisoner, when you can just carry on with a slight cough? Sure, a few people might be willing to do this, but the vast majority won't. For every person I personally know with sterotypical symptoms who is too terrified to get tested, I know second hand of many more cases, and I can only imagine there must be a huge percentage of the population in this boat.
But does it really matter anyway? It's just the equivalent of a very bad flu season. If there was no scare campaign or attempt to control it, we'd all just say "Gee, nasty flu season this year!" and that would be the extent of it. If anyone is severely sick they'll seek medical attention, and if they don't, it's only because they were too scared of being forced into going to one of those hideous camps I'd only wish on my very worst enemies and do anything to avoid myself. All the Thai people I've known who have had it, plus the second hand accounts I've heard, have been very mild. If we put half the effort into dealing with tuberculosis or Heaven forbid road safety that we have into this Chinese virus, we'd have saved far more lives and improved many more. All the efforts in Thailand over the last year, which have been utterly devastating, have been completely wasted now that the virus is entirely out of control anyway. The inevitable was merely delayed and is now happening after crippling damage to the country.

How many farang would want to live in a Thai housing estate? I mean it as an honest question— it would not be attractive to me, and I can’t quite figure out who the target market would bel\.
HISO folks with more money than they know what to do with, apparently. Yessiree, billionaires who can afford to buy a home anywhere have only not been buying homes to live in Thailand because it was previously not an option!
Good thing they got rid of all those adventure-seeking backpackers who came because it was interesting and cheap and being adventure-seeking backpackers they were willing to put up with all the safety issues, filth, etc etc. Now that they're gone, the billionaires will come flocking in to enjoy the corruption, filth, danger, etc.
Good job, Thai governmen! No wonder all the people love you! ❤️- 1

They should probably oil the roads to reduce friction and improve efficiency. I don't even know how surprised I'd be if they trialed that.
Multiple speed limits for different types of vehicles on the same road with drivers of the mentality of the local demographic... what could go wrong. Good job, Thailand. -
This is a really great idea! Tapping into the lucrative market of people with millions of dollars' worth of bitcoin but no actual money. It must be very frustrating for them having so much wealth in bitcoin with no way to spend it on travel... until now!
I can honestly say that I believe Thailand will get 100% of this demographic, those desperate to spend huge bitcoin wealth on travel but have no access to FIAT currency.- 1

For only 10,000 baht per day extra you can get the gold package which includes free coffee and vouchers to buy beer from the quarantine facility's room service at a 33% discount. Coffee mugs cost extra and bottle opening fees apply.

You mean after I tour a Thai prison I can learn to weave baskets, AND paint handcrafts? Wow, I can't wait to spend my million big ones on a work permit!
All they need now is to offer 2 year admission to the Thai military for US$2M and the premium tourists will never bother with any other tourist destination. -

7 hours ago, Techno Viking said:500k baht aint exactly a huge sum of money in this day an age.
Being disconnected from reality doesn't make you smart.
Most people who holiday in Thailand, even if you exclude begpackers and all undesirables, will not have had 500k in a single bank account for 6 consecutive months. Probably less than 10% of them would have. I have more than 500k in liquid assets, but I haven't had 500k sitting idle in a single bank account for several years. I keep a few grand handy for whatever I may need it for, sometimes I may have $10-20k or more in the bank but never consistently sitting idle - it'll get put into shares or some other investment, because I don't like dead money.
Near enough to no one is going to put 500k in a bank account and not touch it for the sake of a holiday in Thailand. Could I? Yes, sure. Would I? If it was *necessary* to buy a house or get married or start a business or save a business or something, sure, no problem. If it's to take a holiday in a country where that money is more than two years' wages, heck no, I'm going to almost literally any other country. Holidays are not necessities. No one is forced to go to Thailand for their holiday, they can choose literally any other country. Other than a very small number of extremely dangerous countries which will not allow entry because they are in the middle of wars etc, I can't think of any country on the planet I couldn't go to if I had US$15,000 in the bank, so why would I choose to try to have fun in a country which forces me to beg, plead, jump through hoops, offers prison tours, wants to track me, insults me, has recently developed a deserved reputation for treating tourists poorly and making them feel unwelcome etc?
If I needed to go to Thailand, and that was the only hurdle, sure, I could stick the money in an account and leave it for six months. However, if I had the choice, which virtually every tourist does, I would not choose Thailand.
Let's look at the typical tourist. They work, they save up about US$5-10k and then go on a holiday. Call them plebs if you like, but that's the typical situation for most people (not me incidentally). They typically don't have 500k baht in an account at all, let alone for six months. If you want to exclude the vast majority of normal people, sure, you can do that, but you just killed your industry. Heck, even if I won the lottery and had a million dollars in my account, I'd go anywhere else to celebrate rather than sit around waiting for six months. Sure, I'm sure with that much money I could wrangle something, but again, since I don't have to, I'm just going to choose anywhere else.- 5

Let's just take them at face value and assume they're as honest and genuine as they'd have us believe.
Accordingly, let's spread the word to all prospective tourists choosing their next holiday destination, that they should budget approximately 300,000-400,000 baht for a 30 day holiday, the first portion of which will be spent locked up.- 1

Would EU or other foreigners be reimbursed if the flight or Government stop their arrival ? Or if you test positive at the last minute , reimbursed, or huge amount of money down the drain ? Does anyone believe the airline company will reimburse or delay ? Too many unanswered questions apart from the ridiculous cost of the whole STV.
You don't actually think that there was a group of 100 tourists who had their trips cancelled at the last minute due to a vegetarian food festival, do you?
Why does anyone think this is actually a group of tourists? Obviously they're not tourists. No tourist which go through such an insane thing. Thailand/China for whatever reason have people they want to bring from China to Thailand. Obviously there's some purpose. Probably China wants them in Thailand, it's likely mutual (China has 'politely asked' for them to be allowed, or a large brown paper suitcase was handed to the right people). The incredible geniuses involved here figured it would be a good idea to make it look like they were trying to do something for tourism by allowing a few tourists in, using utterly absurd rules which absolutely no person would be willing and capable of bothering with (and if such a person did exist, it's fair to say there is not a shortage of excuses to say it is not currently possible, please try again next month/year/don't call us we'll call you krap). For whatever reason, something went wrong. The Chinese spy/businessmen/whatever needed time to prepare, got sick, felt like a delay, or maybe it was going to be too blatant so that whatever they're doing would be too obvious, so they delayed (and came up with the worst excuse I've heard for anything since my classmate in grade three told the teacher that burglars stole her homework).
I'm not saying this is necessarily anything of importance, it might be something very trivial, but whatever it is, it's not a group of Chinese tourists, they want to do something other than tourism, assuming there actually is a group of people who will be coming from China. No one that cashed up is that desperate to spend weeks locked up then wander around abandoned tourist areas then go home. If I had enough money that I wasn't put off by those fees, I'd certainly be in a position where I'd have something better to do than jumping through ridiculous and inane hoops so the sake of being locked up and spending time in a trashy ghost town. I don't know what the real story is, it may be pretty innocent, it may be utterly nefarious, but it certainly isn't the same as the cover story.- 6

If owners live in places where Soi Dog is working – Phuket, Phang Nga, Samui and Bangkok – they can have their pets vaccinated and sterilised. Free. The schedules for Soi Dog mobile clinics are constantly updated on our Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/SoiDogInThai/)
SDF is currently running (Covid permitting) a campaign to do this is BKK
They hae done so in Phuket
Last year they CNVR’d 4000 dogs on Samui, KPG and Kog Tao
In BKK they have a 7 to 10 year, Bt550-million project to control the ENTIRE dog population. It will see an increasing number of mobile surgical teams recruited to target the estimated 640,000 stray dogs that roam the streets in Bangkok.
I suppose making such unrealistic claims is the thing to do in Thailand, so you're in the right place. No one gets held accountable, you'll be fine, you clearly know this.

Perhaps they'll offer 6 month love visas for 555,000 baht, with 555,000 bonds to stay safe, refundable on departure if the farang lover hansum man doesn't get into any trouble and we'll see a whole lot of accidental motorcycle accidents which are proven by autopsy to be definite accidents meaning the deaths were all accidental.

BIG FAT RED HERRING........what they need to do is seize his bank account details and follow the money.
It's quite likely that he was told something like 'We can't just dump a million baht in your bank account, we'll pay you XYZ in cash and the rest later' and when he said 'Okay, I told them the story, where's my money?' he met his untimely incident.
Or he may have been stupid enough to say 'Well, given how big a deal this all is, I want more money' and they paid him in this way.
Or if they did pay him upfront and killed him for another reason, or in the zillion to one chance that it was just a freak accident where he had a stroke or something while riding a motorcycle, they wouldn't have been stupid enough (well, actually... who knows? TIT after all...) to just transfer the money directly to his personal bank account. -
Banning the advertising of alcohol which you're allowed to sell. That'll stimulate the economy. Genius.
Maybe on the spot fines for wearing short trousers or flip flops will rejuvenate the tourist industry.- 2

They must always own half of Thailand and as for the Gov well even PRO CHINA is putting it very very midly
Sad really was once the most beauthiful country on earth ..Siam
Thailand will never be a province of China. Even Laos won't be. Laos will be much like North Korea. China will have a lot of influence, it will probably be a complete puppet state, allowing China to do things it wants to do but using Laos as a puppet to do them, leaving China without blame. Thailand will continue to have increased control from China but unless the world falls into hot war (entirely likely) it will always be allowed to retain a facade of autonomy. It's more useful to China that way.

This is actually two males fighting for territory/mates. It's not a male/female pair mating. Mating behaviour is much less active. It lasts longer but for the most part they just sit there motionless.
